So when I dropped the third car down to liability only, I asked to get rid of roadside assistance as well. The insurance agent recommended keeping it on all three cars and giving up AAA since it's cheaper. The insurance company's roadside assistance turns out to be $3/car, so $9/year while I am paying $75/year to AAA. Seems too good to be true.... Thoughts? Suggestions?? Is it $3 car x 2 for a semi annual auto policy? Also, I'd read the AAA fine print to see if they offer things your auto carrier doesn't. I'm an insurance agent, and I've never recommended someone drop AAA, BUT, I may be missing something.

Lucy, we do offer roadside. The price varies by company. Several at $12/year. $14 for another. State Farm is an excellent company. I was with them for years before I started my own agency.

We have roadside on all four of our vehicles....and we have used it a couple of times. The only thing was we had to pay up front & get reimbursed. We dropped AAA YEARS ago and had Allstate for several years. Also dropped Allstate when they went up! One thing to check about AAA or any other service like that is if there are dealers/stations/repair shops/towing guys who will accept it. The closest one to us is over 40 mi. away and they won't come until they have finished whatever they are working on at their shop....which could be the next day even! Our road/tow is $6 a yr. per vehicle....$3 every six months. That's pretty cheap compared to AAA or Allstate and ours does most of the stuff that the others covered too.

We dropped AAA when DH was in grad school and there wasn't room in the budget. We have been very happy with the roadside assistance from GEICO.

We dropped AAA because it was so much cheaper to have road side attached to our car insurance... We didn't use the AAA discounts so it worked out good for us.

Made 4 pans of Betty Crocker fudge brownies Wednesday night, at .67 cents an envelope (bought on sale, and used a rain check for the first time). Instead of frosting, I sprinkled them with powdered sugar to save money. I delivered them to 6 different businesses yesterday, along with a business card and 2014 calender, while saying Happy Halloween from the XX Insurance Agency. If this Brownie Blitz results in just one new client, then it means success. Oh yes, and I bought eggs on sale for $1.25 a dozen.

I have had a white board for special phone numbers on my fridge for 8-10 years. Recently the magnets came loose and it would no longer stay in place. I put it on my dollar store list to replace. Then I had a brainstorm.
Pulled out the glue and re-glued the magnets. Working fine now. Only saved $1 BUT every dollar counts. At $1/week over a year I have saved >2 weeks grocery/household stuff money.

I keep several "extras" in my kitchen junk drawer!

Kandee Both my baths have glass shower doors. Thus no shower curtain magnets to canibalize.
I may buy a new white board anyway. Dollar Tree had some really nice designs on some when I looked for fun on Sat.

This didn't save money. I bought some reduced price cute cards not knowing they are square and take extra postage. What I saved will be more than eaten up with the additional 20 cents each. The cute has been soured. ---------- patstab, you rock making your own sheets. One of my fails was my lateDM bought me a sewing machine so I could become a seamstress to make money. Her first project was for me to repair the elastic on fitted sheets. The long gone sewing machine never did work correctly and did the birds nest ball ups. (Same with the one I have now.) I ran across the old sheets in a closet the other day.

Patstab, I envy your sewing abilities. I can sew very simple things for my classroom use, but that's about it. Even then, though, it's such a good feeling to create something useful!

I do a lot of sewing. I make my own suits/slacks (pants). I have a favorite pattern that has pleats along the waistband, belt loops, etc. I also have a few blouse patterns. I've made some nice ones with more sheer fabrics for dressier occasions - as well as some lacy camisoles.
When we had our truck & 5th wheel, I replaced all the curtains in that, making them myself.
I enjoy sewing, so making things for myself or for around the house, is just more cost-saving and I can save a few $$ over buying something that's going to fall apart.
For Christmas one year, I made family members some place-mats or tablecloths.
I make crocheted or knitted toys, sweaters (child or adult),afghans, baby blankets, etc - some I keep, some I give as gifts, some I sell. What I sell pays for materials and puts a bit of coin back into my pocket.
I'm having to turn down orders now until I get caught up on projects that are in progress.
Even when I'm here, I usually have a crochet hook or knitting needles in hand as I'm typing.

We finally shopped at our local Aldi store last week. Friend emailed me the $10 off coupon when spending $40. So far: Sweet potato chips- sucked. Raisin bran? huh, OK. Box of different cracker selections: Winner! Ice Cream: Winner! even though they only had 3 varieties to choose from. The store wasn't in the best of neighborhoods, got a chuckle over the $.25 for the cart, and we always take my homemade canvas grocery bags, so that was no big deal. The big deal: I swiped my debit card, the guy cashier then asked for my 3 number security pin from the back of my card...WHAT Like bloody hell!!!!!!!!!!! I finally told him it was a debit card...he said he thought it was a credit card, I simply said " I didn't think you took credit cards" and he answered they take Discover and my blue gray debit card he thought looked like a credit card and that way the way he ran it. I don't think we'll go back, nothing really seemed that terrific, and I'll still shop WMT and The Fresh Market. And they can keep this nonsense of asking for my 3 digit security pin from the back of my card.

We bought a chest freezer a little while ago so we can start to buy more groceries and food so we will be less tempted to eat out next year.

Chaotic yesterday shopping at the grocer. They had Shore Lunch soups bogo. I had a $1.50 off 2 store coupon I had gotten at last check out. Bogo price 2/$3.88 - $1.50 = $2.38/2. DH told me not to get a flavor he didn't like but the choices were picked over.
My sweet low cost purchase of Dansko shoes turned sour as they were 1/2 size too large, so I advertised them and did sell them for a little more than what I paid. I will need to watch for another deep discount sale.

I didn't save any money today, but I improved my life by cleaning the oven and cleaning the fridge. On second thought, maybe I did save some money as I chopped up 11 bell peppers I had picked before the frost/freeze hit us 2 nights ago...almost a gallon bag into the freezer! And I did make a batch of laundry detergent too!
Still need to scrub the kitchen floor but the way my hands feel, arthritis, that may wait until tomorrow!

DH has developed a taste for a convenience store dark roast coffee. He went in on Black Friday to get a cup. Usually a dollar, it was 25 cents. He asked why and got a whimsical Black Friday, of course. He was charmed. I was charmed. In some one state the gas at that convenience store with a shopping card was . . . . drum roll $2.88. Another convenience store find is their refrigerated hamburgers in a bun. They are larger than even Whoppers. I know it's suspect on how long it's been on the shelf there, and I have to microwave it myself but way good. I probably already posted that. I could use one right now but the roads are glare ice. I will save myself and stay in.

I have been having issues with my Sony e-reader so I had been looking for a replacement. Sony no longer sells straight e-readers in the US, which I found out last week. So I was talking to a friend over the weekend and they had a kindle that they have never used that had been sitting in a drawer for about 1.5-2 years. I now have a new(ish) kindle Fire that I now have to figure out how to use/set up and work. So I am really happy and surprised. I offered to pay and was told, "I don't need your money, I never used the thing and I know you will really use it for books and that works because it is being used." You have to love really good friends.

I apologize in advance, this is a little bit of a long story:
We moved into our new house 5 weeks ago. We have U-Verse internet/phone/TV service. That is all besides Dish TV available here. Had whole system installed, but told installer the next day, nice guy who gave us his phone #, that wireless modem was not covering entire house, could not get signal for internet in front bedroom. He guided me through making a change, but did no good, after that he shrugged his shoulders.
Fast forward to yesterday. My DH had enough so I called ATT. Got ahold of James in India...that was the first problem. I will skip all the intermediate wrangling with James, but I finally asked for his supervisor and explained the whole thing to Jonathan, also in India. An appt. was made for 2 hours later and a great guy names Rodney came to the house. End result, something was blocking the signal from the wireless modem to the front area of the house. The tech could get a signal from neighbors house down the street, but not ours.
He installed a $78 gizmo in front bedroom, signal is now covering the house, and ATT did not charge me for the new thing installed. The tech also checked everything else in the house to assure signal strength was good, and also replaced the wireless modem at the entry point of the whole system.
A little persistence resulted in everything working, and we didn't have to buy the gizmo he installed in the bedroom. Overall, a very good day!

I've tried doing a price book, but could never figure out how to keep track of all the different prices. Everything ended just being jumbled up and I could never find anything when I needed it. We live in the land of the WMT Home Office, have a couple of great WMTs to shop at, so I just stick to WMT.
