LOFT is having a four day sale. They had a rack of final sale items. I bought 4 pair of 69.50 pants for (get this) 7.80!!!! They were 9.88 and she talked me into using my Loft card for an additional 20% off.
Then Yankee Candle had votive candles for .50 each. I left the mall a happy girl.

We went away last weekend to a family cabin and did a whole lotta nothing! Took the dog on a few hikes, played with him in the lake, grilled, soaked up the sun ... ohhh man I'm so annoyed that real life came calling and we had to come back home ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/angry.png) DH is in the process of getting a new job, which could come with a 40% increase in income (don't get too excited, he makes very little to begin with. This will be a major help, but nothing that we can live on if I ever lost my job). He had the phone interview today and will have an in-person interview next week. I am also (secretly) starting a new job in the next few months. I don't have all of the details worked out yet and I'm nervous as this is a brand spanking new business (the building is still under construction) ... but I'm taking a leap of faith and hoping that God is putting me where I need to be. My current employer is just not a healthy place to be anymore. The stress is overwhelming and the petty arguing and drama is ridiculous. I feel like I have no support from the corporate "higher ups" and I just feel so defeated from the minute I walk in the door. I'm literally watching the clock all day. Plus, I commute an hour each way and it's getting old. If we both get these new jobs we'll be working closer, making more money, saving money on gas, and working across the street from each other. Carpooling probably won't be an option as DH's opportunity is to work evenings and I work days. All in all, I'm cautiously hopeful.

The grocery had Kraft barbeque sauce for 3/1.00. Grapes were .99 lb as were the Carolina peaches. I also picked up a lb of hamburg for 2.26. That was the limit this week. Nothing else that interested me.

we applied to refinance the house today -- we cut a year and a half off of the mortgage and got a 1.5% reduction in interest rate so that was awesome! 12 years to go and this sucker is all ours!
DH was laughing all day because his credit score was 770 and mine was 721 ... he kept casually bringing it up all day. So annoying!

I am cooking a turkey today. Why might you ask? It's all the posts I have been seeing on Facebook from Friends on a Budget. They have some darn good recipes that use everything. I have uses for the entire bird, not to mention it only cost me $7.00 for a 12.5 pound turkey. I'm having a blast ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)

And, It must be cold when it arrives! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) This falls under the improve my life arena. DD1 and I split the cost of a box of local NY hot dogs. White and red. Yummy. They were on sale, but not that great of a sale.

Earlier this week Discover card sent me a coupon for Kohl's for $10 off a $30 purchase. Needing dainties, that is what I bought although I looked very hard for other items. I was happy. DH wasn't so much as I had hit the dollar store big time earlier in the week.

I started the ball rolling on re-financing my 1st mortgage. ** Crosses fingers ** Hopefully I should know something by next week. I have butterflies in my tummy though! If it goes through I will save close to $200/mo. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)

DH wasn't so much as I had hit the dollar store big time earlier in the week. I got one, too. I bought a 50.00 Kohl's gc for 40.00 and will use this coupon with my 25% off one I got in the mail from Kohl's. SO: 50.00 cost 40.00 spend 30.00 get 10.00 off Then .25 off of 30.00 I think it adds up to 27.00 savings off the original 50.00 So 21.00 cost so far for the 50.00 gc. Am I making sense? OR: I can spend the 50.00 and get 10.00 Kohl's cash in addition to the above savings. That brings the cost down to 11.00 for the gc. Anyhoo, I went to the commissary today and got Betty Crocker cookie mix pouches for .25 cents each. The size is the same that the dollar stores sell. 4 cookie, 4 brownie, 4 banana bread, 3 blueberry muffin. The grands will love the treats with a glass of milk. Campbell's pork and beans, also .25 cents a can. I haven't had these in about 15 years. Three cans and a couple strips of bacon and I have a dish to pass at a bbq. One pound blocks of Kraft cheese @ 3.00 a block and a dollar coupon for 2 and I bought 2 full pounds of cheese for 5.00. Mother's oatmeal cookies (for me) @ 2.12 with a .25 coupon. So 1.87 for yummy cookies. John Stamos yogurt for .80 a cup. 2 .25 coupons brought it down to .55 cents. Beef soup bones and meat for .75 cents a lb. Enough for one stew, lots of broth, and bones for Marley! ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) I feel accomplished today.

Can you remember when this thread was hopping with good deals. Most of them are gone, but I did get a nice surprise this morning. I waited to get a few groceries today because there is now a 10% discount on everything on Mondays for military. The ad said 5 cans of Dole pineapple for 5.00. I got a surprise when a .75 Catalina rolled out. I went back to get pectin (2.49) with the Catalina. The register tripled the Catalina and I got the military discount, paying .05 cents. So a nice surprise for me this day. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png) Peaches .99 romaine .99 Local melon 2.00 Cheerios 2.00 Dog Food 12.93 I can live with this. Plus the 10% discount of around 1.90.

Hi Dutt. I've been thinking the same thing! The good deals seem far and few between these days.... I did my monthly shopping last week (among the good deals): $2.69 Orville Redenbacher free download coupon Buy 4 Green Giant frozen veggies, get $1 off, and I had a $1 e-coupon Pork loin on sale for $7.99 (reg $10.99) minus $1 coupon 150 coffee filters on sale for $1, reg $2.19 Finally tuna went on sale!! .89 can Canned Hormel chicken $2.28 each minus $1.50 coupon for 2 BOGO Pantene saved $4.97 Produce: 2/$1 apples 4/$2 oranges 3/$1 corn cobs .45 Broc crown $.79 cucumber $1.99 celery $1.99 spinach Saved $57.07 in coupons, sales and manager's specials Re: the free down load coupon: Kroger has had free download Fridays for several weeks now. So far I've gotten free chip dip, a box of granola bars, Betty Crocker Mac and Cheese, etc. I also caught up on my office land line and cell phone bill, paid off a small medical bill (finally!) and paid off a personal loan. Now, on to attack my retirement savings. As in, start one. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/wink.png)

It may be the brand, but it was dry, dry, dry. Have you found this to be true for all canned chicken? I wish I could get brocolli for .45-.49 cents a lb. I haven't seen that price for years. I consider myself very lucky I got lettuce for .99 cents. Congrats on the paid off bill. That should bring you down just about to the end. Corn on the cob .10 an ear Cherries 1.99 lb. The only other things I need is V8 and spinach and black bread. That's it for this week's shopping. Too many high prices. Thankfully I have a stock of other items so I won't go without. I don't mind going without, I've done it many times without flinching. More because of a stubborn streak in me than anything else. Lunch will be a salad with a home grown tomato and .99 romaine lettuce and walnuts I got as a gift. The lettuce will make 4 meals so lunch will cost .25. It's a good thing.

After having to deal with a homeowner whose washing machine hoses broke over the weekend and drowned them and the neighbor below - I decided that it would save me money in the long run if I replaced my rubber hoses with the stainless steel ones to be on the safe side. So I went last night and bought 2 hoses for under $25.00. I figure I will attempt to save my sanity by not having to deal with this possibility. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/grin.png)

I brought my free item coupon to Bath and Bodyworks and ended up using the 20% off coupon on items for our daughters for Christmas. They were 25% off and then 20% coupon came off of that price.
I went to look at Pandora bracelets for the girls for Christmas and the sales person told me the Pandora line goes on sale in September. He's going to call me when they do. So free bracelets with the purchase of one charm each. Daughters are done.
I also went to a site yesterday looking for socks and found great deals on other Christmas gifts. So it looks like I will be done well before September ends.

Frugality continues.... Supper last night: Warmed up some frozen leftover sticky rice from Chinese take out last month as a side dish. Served it with a fresh tomato from a client's garden, and smoked Gouda salad. Pork ribs were on sale $2.81 for 4. Local people are complaining about their water bill (it includes garbage, sewer and recycling service) doubling. Ours hasn't gone above $90 this summer-barely an increase. Tonight at the store I will use two paper coupons for free Kraft ranch dressing and Jimmy Dean sausage, and two electronic coupons for free toothpaste and "Hamburger Ultimate Helper". We don't usually eat the latter, so I may donate it. It's been cooler during the day. Here's to a lower energy bill. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/thumbsup.png)

I have $20 Kohl's bucks to spend but I stayed home hoping they would put an air popcorn popper on reduced price this weekend. Since I did not shop, I didn't go for the grocery tour I usually do. So I saved there. I need to reduce my politeness when asked to stay for a cold drink because that's $2.50 plus tip I don't need to spend. A beer is $4.50. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/shocked.gif) I could bring in my water as an alternative.

Iggy - your dinner sounds really good. Thank you, Snap! I forgot to mention the ribs were cooked in the crock pot all day in Hoisin sauce. This was the first time I used the sauce in this fashion, and quickly became one of my favorites. ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/smiley.png)

we closed on our refinance today -- feels good to get that done and over with! and also today, for the first time ever in 5 years of living together, my DH and I now live alone, just the two of us and the dog!
speaking of the dog ... that little devil tore a hole, literally a hole, in my memory foam mattress. luckily I bought it off of Amazon so I'm not too far into it, but I'm still pissed. for now we just flipped the mattress and we'll deal with it for awhile until we have money to replace it.

It would be a year before I got over it! Well, maybe a week or so. Marley had her shots and went upstairs to relieve herself. I didn't know it until it was dried. Boy did she get a tongue lashing. For an hour. I'm still trying to get the stain out. Little by little. Over and over again with the 13.00 bottle of spray I had to buy. Grrrr!

Well Dutt I have to say in his defense (it took me awhile to get through the anger and to this point) two weeks ago my grandmother died unexpectedly and we were not home much at all and when we were we had a house full of out of town family. Then the following week my aunt and her dog moved out of our house after 1.5 years of living here -- so he's had a lot of confusion going on lately and I know that he can sense our stress and sadness. I think that he really does not care to be home alone when we're at work (even though the other dog did nothing but sleep all day) so we're trying to be patient. When I get home at night it's taking about 20-30 minutes or so to calm him down because he's so frantic that someone is finally home -- he's not home more than a few hours by himself but still he's struggling to adjust.
I'm hoping that he will calm down in the next week or so because the only solution I can come up with is getting another dog. I really don't have the time or patience right now to train another dog -- plus we both work full time and I would be hesitant to leave a new dog alone in our house without knowing any of their behaviors. If I came home to anything worse than the mattress I really think I would lose my mind! If anyone has suggestions I am more than open to trying something new!

MONICA: I'm sorry that you lost your grandma. Please accept my condolences. ![](http://syonidv.hodginsmedia.com/vsmileys/wilted.png) The pup most likely needs you to be patient. With all that's on your plate, I know how difficult it is. Trying, then failing, then trying again is totally acceptable. It's part of what makes us stronger in the end. ![](http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/smileys/hug.gif) I don't know if you would do this, but DD1 crated her dog when she was a puppy - while they were at work. It worked well for them. If the pup was naughty, it was so funny, she went to her crate and moped. I went to the grocery Monday because it was 10% off day for military families. I was surprised to see when they took off, they rounded up. So the kidney beans I bought (on sale for .99 cents) were .89 cents a can. I tried the dry beans and didn't care for them, so I wait for a sale.

I have no idea where the thread about our new years resolutions got to, but today I paid off my second student loan. I'm VERY happy with this as my goal was to have 1.5 paid off by December. At this point I'll have 2.5 paid off by December! Dutt -- we crated him when we lived in our apartment, that's how we potty trained him. He will still go into his crate when we leave the house, but we just never shut him in there. It looks like that will be our plan starting tomorrow (I'm working all weekend ![](http://images.proboards.com/new/undecided.png) ) to see how he does. We haven't crated him in over 2 years but today he destroyed the molding around the door going into our garage and yesterday he destroyed the comforter on my bed. I feel badly that he is so distraught but he cannot just continue to wreck my house. We've had him for almost 4 years so getting rid of him is not an option. We will figure something out! And thank you about my grandmother. It was very unexpected but she didn't suffer and went peacefully surrounded by family. It was the best thing that could have happened in her situation.

This is a what not to do.
I bought a 2 1/2 dozen flat of eggs. I was a bit concerned when the clerk put the ends in a plastic bag and upended them. I got more concerned as soon as the card I was pushing out was bumping on the asphalt. I glanced inside the bag and didn't see any broken and put them in my car as gently as I could.
I get home and look at the egg carton a lot closer. Some eggs had slipped out of the holder.
I noticed the broken ones and ended up with 5 broken and 2 barely cracked. I added a few eggs to the cracked ones and boiled them thinking they would split open. They didn't. The egg salad was good but next time I'm going through self-checkout.
