The actor who played Hamilton is the one who wrote the musical.
Hes he’s a genius writer but I agree he’s not the most adept at acting, which holds out in other things I’ve seen him in.

I agree with all of this. He is a genius at music and lyrics. He free style rapped several of his award acceptance speeches. Except the one he wrote a sonnet for. And he seems to be a genuinely nice guy. But his singing and acting are only OK. My favorite thing he acted in is the episodes of House where he played Alfie. FYI One of the cutest things ever is his wedding surprise for his wife.

... The actor who played Hamilton did a good job acting, but I found his voice a bit disappointing. It might have been part of his character--I'm not sure, but I preferred the singing of the others with more resonant voices. ... The actor who played Hamilton wrote the show. Not sure if he directed and/or produced it as well.

Ah, I see. I wasn't sure if the weaselly character was a casting choice, but I guess he just wrote it for himself to act in.

His, In the Heights, was supposed to come out in movie form this year. I like that soundtrack too and was looking forward to it. He wrote the music for Moana as well.
I loved him in house and in the one episode of Modern Family he was in... in both cases he was much more 'charactery' ... if that makes sense... those really fit his personality/voice/etc.
I didn't love him in the new Mary Poppins... I really wanted to... but again he just didn't quite get there.

In the Heights has been pushed back to summer 2021. The actor that play John Laurens in Hamilton will be the lead instead of Lin.

I'm gonna say lin manuel miranda voice isn't quite Broadway caliber. He can sing well and his voice is not "unpleasant". From an Opera view point - his voice is "thin" - he can hit all the notes correctly, his timing is fine, his voice can last... it's just "thin". I'm biased toward professionally trained Opera singers (even those who don't sing opera - love me some Rhiannon Giddens - her voice/training/singing background adds a whole dimension to folk music and gospel - made me hear things in the songs I hadn't heard before. ) So, take my bias into account when discussing Lin-manual's voice. I'm not dissing him...

And in some ways that actually works for Hamilton, like Lizard said, you can actually see it as a potential casting choice.

This was interesting. Just how he used music. I'd read before about how, like when TJ comes home, its like, what did i miss and one thing is obviously the music because he is singing an old old tune and everyone else has moved on...

I had to explain that Lin was the brains behind the whole show so he got whatever part he wanted. (I agree he can "sing" but as pointed out, he clearly has less singing skills than the others) I was also so surprised by the original Angelica role - I knew her from her acting in Altered Carbon. I had no idea she was like the best singer I've ever heard. I saw the Chicago cast live and the original cast for the most part blew me away!

DH and I watched some YouTube over the weekend , different ones about Hamilton , the actors , etc . Turns out Miranda is a huge Weird Al fan and Weird Al did his version of a bunch of Hamiltons songs called The Hamilton Polka . It’s great . We saw a video of Miranda listening to the song for the first time , his reactions are fantastic.

His angry white boy polka is fantastic, but this one - meh.

We love us some Weird Al , that was both my sons first concert experience like 16-17 years ago .

I saw this show on Broadway with my two kids a couple of years ago -- loved it. One time my daughter was angry with me about something and she burst out with " and I didn't even like Hamilton". (she knew I loved it.)
The look of horror on her face when she realized that she may have offended me just made me burst out laughing. I said I was glad that there was no longer that elephant in the room, as I long suspected she didn't really appreciate it. Anyway, we still sometimes say " And I didn't even like Hamilton" to each other just to crack each other up.
