Our church is opening up too on Saturday/Sunday. Capacity is limited to 25%. Ushers are supposed to be "well trained." DH always ushers in May as part of his yearly rotation. I just checked with him..and he's not heard anything yet, about usher training. I'm not scared, but we've not heard anything about what a socially distanced mass will look like, especially for things like distribution of communion. Returning will likely be no.
With the kids' activities, the more teachers/leaders are upfront what they are actually doing to be safe and socially distance, the more I'm willing to trust. The girls went to private cheer/martial arts lessons last night. DD1 will start group cheer/tumbling classes in a week.
The places that are getting a hard "no" from me are the places that are saying "Sure, we're working on a plan.....trust us...." Call me cynical, but blind trust isn't exactly the best method for ensuring safety.
My church is opening up this weekend too. We can have a max of 188 people but they have to be well spread out. No offertory basket, no wine with communion are the 2 that stood out. We're a small, mostly older, parish so I'm not sure we get 188 people on an average Sunday.

Just booked haircut appointments for my granddaughters in Des Moines- Shear Madness, which they love. Younger one hasn't had her hair cut yet (not much to cut) but she's been there with her older sister many times. I wonder if they're still giving out lollipops! I'll have to manage expectations on that. We can still drive through Starbucks afterwards and get a couple of cake pops. Not ready to take them inside and I'm sure DS and DDIL will agree- I'm not sure if the kids have been out at all in the last couple of months, other than their own yard and public parks.

I rarely take it myself - I'm either draining or everyone else is. My husband's church does the communion wine in individual cups. They're sort of like a shot glass.

I have at least 5 weeks yet before our churches really reopen. We are in phase 1, and churches resuming services falls in phase 4.
The governor has said gatherings of no more than 10 may occur.
When full services resume, the diocese has already said no altar servers, no choir (one organist or singer only), no wine, masks required, no missalettes. That's the part that will be most foreign - no books for the prayer responses. I knew all the responses by heart from childhood (Catholic schools), but they changed the wording a while back, similar but just different enough that my brain makes a jumble of the old/new versions.

NJ governor just said outdoor graduations ok after July 6, grammar high and college. Robes might be mailed - no gathering to get them, social distancing might require multiple smaller ceremonies. Larger colleges already often have separate ceremonies for individual disciplines, maybe just those and not the entire graduating class

Casinos will be opening here again soon at 25% capacity. That's going to be an interesting social experiment given that the majority of their customers tend to be in the highest risk group.
Fortunately I don't go to the casinos and neither does anyone in my inner circle so that's not a hard potential hot spot to avoid.

We do a weekly bulletin and I'd seen a recommendation somewhere else that that church bulletins be made available on-line. I suggested that and that's what we're going to do. Paper copies available but on-line access encouraged. I just need to remember to bring my e-reader!

because drinking from the same cup is just gross. I don't know why we still do it.

When the pastor shut off the parish website, I'd gone searching online for any/all connections they had current. Ugh, it was a mishmash of old/dead links, etc. But eventually I did find the bulletin online link (not the most logical of search engines, hampered by our merged parishes spanning multiple counties; have to get the name *just* right to find it). They have expanded the bulletin, to include all those prayers/responses from the forbidden missalettes. Yay! Too bad they don't just include the readings and gospel, too. I wonder if they are even printing any bulletins at all, but might need to to use the free online service. All the usual masses are scheduled, I wonder if he's been saying all the masses at each building all along, in an empty church, or if some small number attend quietly.

From my bishop's letter, they are encouraging people to attend weekday masses if they can, instead of the weekend ones, to keep the occupancy down.

We ordered our own Daily Roman Missal since our parish removed them from the pews and isn't printing the information in the bulletins. Our parish is opening this weekend, but I told my husband I am too uncomfortable going and I will not attend. I think he will be going without me, so I don't know if I am achieving anything by staying home.
My mother and father in law went to their church last weekend, and won't be going back for some time. People were spread out, but a lot of parishioners took off their masks or adjusted them to not cover their noses, and the priest didn't do anything to address it.
ETA: I guess I am officially old now, because I ordered the large print edition, which has 12 point font. When did 12 point font become large print??

Or no one has updated the Web site since they quit having in-person services. No, the bulletin was dated for last Sunday (I picked the most recent), it had a totally revamped layout to accommodate the extra prayers/responses, had the names of the people the mass was intended for, had a section with the pastor's current homily and another praying for an end to the CV, and a new section with the times/locations for masses at the 2 parishes/4 sites, a box with addresses to send contributions. Looking closer, it labels the masses as "public intentions/private masses". I'm guessing the family members of the person the mass was intended for might be permitted to attend.

Why can't twitter get a handle on these bots? Is it because they don't want to?

Watching thousands of people many without masks walking closely together in protests in NYC. Then governors of NY and NJ announcing that restaurants can now soon start allowing out door dining but keeping 6’ distance. Really why bother now Waiting to see the numbers of Covid 19 in two weeks. Hoping it won’t overwhelm the hospitals. But how can it not???

We haven't seen spikes yet.

It does seem the protests have pushed Covid-19 out of the news. I noticed ABC stopped airing 2 Coronavirus shows at 7 & 7:30pm; they went back to pop-news list shows.
Wondering how long Cuomo continues daily press conferences. Will he hang on until we hit phase 4? He's already doing 1/3 Covid-19 news, 2/3 protest news.

I turn on CNN every morning, (for about 10 minutes - because CNN can be quite awful) and they don't have the box with stats on the side anymore, nor is Covid in their ticker or anything.

No Covid deaths in NY for first time since pandemic started Hoping that this continues but worry that huge demonstrations will bring back sickness At least they are outside. There is scientific evidence that it is much harder to spread while outdoors. This is one reason why I couldn't understand our governor opening bars before opening theme parks. Personally, it makes more sense to me to open all the outdoor stuff first.

Big lobby group and alcohol taxes are likely more than the amusement tax. Governments are hurting for money with tax receipts being way down.

The stay in place order from the governor went into effect in mid-March while our county instituted one two days before that they reversed a day later based on local numbers. 6+ weeks into it and we avoided overwhelming the healthcare system then we were just kind of in limbo as the goal post was moved. I think some cities kind of forced the governors hand because their numbers were much better than the more densely populated areas and they started to open some public areas up. At this point beaches, trails and so on seem to be open in most counties but I know at least as of a few weeks ago they had to close some of them in the densely populated areas because people weren't following social distancing guidelines.
The businesses not open are nail salons, massage parlors, concert venues, sporting events and the like. Hair salons have opened because at least from my wife's understanding they can avoid touching someone while nail salons and massage parlors can't. Professional sports have the go ahead but they'll be playing without fans. Office buildings are working on plans to re-open but I imagine a lot of people who can work remotely will continue to. Particularly people with kids because daycare, summer camps and eventually schools opening are a whole different set of issues. At the beginning of May there were protests from people who wanted to open things up and people on the other side said those people were selfish and numbers would jump. 5+ weeks later and our numbers don't look any worse and in our county almost half of the deaths are from skilled nursing facilities. That's unfortunate but those are obviously some of the most at risk people while other older individuals and people with compromised systems will have to continue to be extra cautious. A few weeks from now we'll see whether or not recent events result in a jump in the numbers. If they do as long as we hopefully avoid overwhelming hospitals we can hopefully continue with our new normal.

Gyms and salons are still closed, but salons are to open on the 15th. The northern, scantily populated areas are opening more sooner. Retail is opening more, and restaurants are allowed 50% capacity. Michigan's new cases are way down (for now), Texas, Florida and Arizona seem to be taking off lik a rocket lately. I'm in the wait and see mode, for the most part. They opened public playgrounds, and I am letting my kids go there to play. If they are going to be exposed, I'd prefer it to be a tiny viral load from the outdoors. Some other boys joined mine on a playground last night, and eventually got way too close. Sigh-- it just affirmed my belief that social distancing is not going to happen with kids. It's even hard for adults to maintain.

There are still many places where cases today are increasing. They said before that singing, yelling, and such spews out more virus and makes it travel farther. I worry about the other nations that are protesting where they might not have quality healthcare systems. www.nytimes.com/interactive/2020/us/coronavirus-us-cases.html
