Can someone explain to me why the Gov of GA is forbidden the counties to require mask? Did he miss the memo that one of his counties “/Atlanta “ is a hot spot?
Now he is suing the mayor of Atlanta for pushing through and require it?
I feel like we are in the middle of a twilight zone! Common sense is no longer common, scientists are viewed as liars and cannot be trusted and we go by our gut feelings. WTF!!!
We are killing people out there.

He wants to out stupid DeSantis If the bar is already on the ground, how much lower can you get? Rhetorical question. IDK Rickets of Nebraska and Reynolds of Iowa are trying hard to win the #1 spot themselves. I had to snicker a little at a CNN article about how certain states, my two included, should roll back reopening. Kinda hard for Nebraska and Iowa to roll back reopening when we never shut down to begin with. That title should actually read "Dip shit states that should have listened the first time"

That title should actually read "Dip shit states that should have listened the first time" Inslee spoke yesterday and mentioned that if WA cannot get cases to drop with the mask mandate, he will consider rolling back reopening. I am glad to hear that my governor is paying attention to numbers and is trying other things before rolling back - BUT is willing to consider it if we cannot get it under control.

I think if Biden chose Romney or Cuomo as his VP then he would have a much better chance of actually winning. If he picks a woman simply for picking someone with a vagina, I really do think he has a chance of losing... I agree that Trump et all should be charged with crimes against humanity - especially since they seem hell bent on murdering children, teachers, and school workers. I don't think this is correct. I think Biden needs a black running mate to have a shot at winning, I just don't know if there is enough hate for women in power to mean that Mayor Bottoms would be a liability. I like her and would rather have President Bottoms than President Biden, but I am sure a black male running mate would be an easier win (I don't agree with this, but this is how I see people behaving). The world has had enough old crusty white men. And the BLM movement won't forget that Biden's had his share decisions that were harmful to black constituents. If Biden goes with someone even like Cuomo I don't think there will be enough voters to come out to win against Trump's supercharged base.

Sorry about bringing in politics. No, I don't believe it should matter at all the gender of the VP. I don't understand the push to make it a woman - it should be whoever will help Biden get elected and Trump out. Period. And if that were a precise science, it would be simple. But it isn't. I think the key to the 2020 Presidential election will be turnout. Biden selecting another old white guy will drive down Democratic turnout by the progressive wing of the party. I think you are right bill

A friend I used to work with is having a pool party this afternoon. I really wanted to go...so many people there that I haven't seen in months. I started reading about the hospitals in my state being overloaded and just couldn't do it. With it being outside I probably could have distanced myself while talking, etc. but i also know how stupid people get when they are drinking. Just because I distance myself from them doesn't mean they will distance themselves from me. She said around thirty people were going to be there...yeah, no thank you. Not going to happen...
I ended up having a nice day on my own. I did some exercise videos on YouTube this morning, got take out for lunch, finished a book, and now have brownies in the oven.

My office is doing a summer party. Next month, and it will be outdoors thankfully, but at a marina and you have to take a boat to get to the island so there will be at least some close quarters. I feel like I have to go for appearances and face time, but I'm certainly not taking my kids and I'm annoyed that I'm put in the situation at all.

Mostly I post major news headlines here, stats about tests, positives, deaths, etc. But tonight I will only share this from a neighbor. It's not a headline from a major news outlet, just the words of one woman on our local FB page "Exactly. I have 4 family members that are nurses on the frontline right now fighting covid in south Texas. They’re exhausted and overwhelmed plus mentally distraught. They’re not able to keep people alive. This virus is deadly and terrible."
While some in our community continue to dispute the threat Covid-19 presents for us, I must hear the voices of people like my neighbor.

NY NJ are so much better now. It was so terrible hearing about 700 to 800 deaths/day and overwhelmed medical system . Down to less than 10/day now. So both NY and NJ opening up but hundreds of young people going to bars, outside but no masks. And also had the protest marches I’m pretty sure majority of these vote blue so no masks doesn’t mean voting red. Just thinking they’re invulnerable. No was could a half way sentient person in NY or NJ think Covid could be a hoax

Could you casually ask the boss what your company liability could be if anyone passes the virus to the group at the party? When I was very young I never missed a company party. Now that I'm <ahem> a bit older, I would have no problem with skipping a group gathering like this.

GA set a record for new cases in 24 hours--4689. And the governor is suing the mayor of Atlanta. Our tax dollars at work.

I am too, but I also think I'm living more and more in my own bubble and my office is a couple hours away in a county that is fighting the state mask mandate. Realized it's actually about 2 months out, but I don't expect case counts to go down and the office would be screwed without me at this point. I'm going to tell my boss I hate to miss it but that I'm not comfortable with the exposure. I've jumped through hoops I've assumed I had to for decades for bosses who are long gone. Maybe Ill regret not jumping through this one too, but it seems like one worth calling out.

The office is staying closed longer than it has been required to, so I'm not going to be antagonistic about anything. I'm equally appalled with and grateful to them. I don't like the idea of the party but I don't see it being more exposure than if we were in the office even once a week. Which is where I start to waffle, but I'm still planning on politely bailing.

What’s the excuse for DeSantis and Kemp. They should know better, and they are in a position of responsibility But, I don't know that they realize they should know better. DeSantis isn't phased by the number of actual infections and he doesn't care about those that have lingering effects. He justifies because the fatality rate is low..about 1.5% from here. It makes a good bit of sense. From day 1, we've been told that SIP was not to stop the virus. We've been told since forever that SIP was only to buy time and prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed. De Santis as of a few days ago, still didn't think hospitals in his state were overwhelmed. So, if we're not worried about stopping it, and we're all going to get it eventually..why should infection rates be worrisome, when likely folks won't die from it?

A scientist friend of mine sent me this. It seems particularly relevant here...
Long, but important to read, from Dr. Fauci.
“Chickenpox is a virus. Lots of people have had it, and probably don't think about it much once the initial illness has passed. But it stays in your body and lives there forever, and maybe when you're older, you have debilitatingly painful outbreaks of shingles. You don't just get over this virus in a few weeks, never to have another health effect. We know this because it's been around for years, and has been studied medically for years.
Herpes is also a virus. And once someone has it, it stays in your body and lives there forever, and anytime they get a little run down or stressed-out they're going to have an outbreak. Maybe every time you have a big event coming up (school pictures, job interview, big date) you're going to get a cold sore. For the rest of your life. You don't just get over it in a few weeks. We know this because it's been around for years, and been studied medically for years.
HIV is a virus. It attacks the immune system and makes the carrier far more vulnerable to other illnesses. It has a list of symptoms and negative health impacts that goes on and on. It was decades before viable treatments were developed that allowed people to live with a reasonable quality of life. Once you have it, it lives in your body forever and there is no cure. Over time, that takes a toll on the body, putting people living with HIV at greater risk for health conditions such as cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, diabetes, bone disease, liver disease, cognitive disorders, and some types of cancer. We know this because it has been around for years, and had been studied medically for years.
Now with COVID-19, we have a novel virus that spreads rapidly and easily. The full spectrum of symptoms and health effects is only just beginning to be cataloged, much less understood. So far the symptoms may include: Fever Fatigue Coughing Pneumonia Chills/Trembling Acute respiratory distress Lung damage (potentially permanent) Loss of taste (a neurological symptom) Sore throat Headaches Difficulty breathing Mental confusion Diarrhea Nausea or vomiting Loss of appetite Strokes have also been reported in some people who have COVID-19 (even in the relatively young) Swollen eyes Blood clots Seizures Liver damage Kidney damage Rash COVID toes (weird, right?)
People testing positive for COVID-19 have been documented to be sick even after 60 days. Many people are sick for weeks, get better, and then experience a rapid and sudden flare up and get sick all over again. A man in Seattle was hospitalized for 62 days, and while well enough to be released, still has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Not to mention a $1.1 million medical bill.
Then there is MIS-C. Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children is a condition where different body parts can become inflamed, including the heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes, or gastrointestinal organs. Children with MIS-C may have a fever and various symptoms, including abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, neck pain, rash, bloodshot eyes, or feeling extra tired. While rare, it has caused deaths.
This disease has not been around for years. It has basically been 6 months. No one knows yet the long-term health effects, or how it may present itself years down the road for people who have been exposed. We literally *do not know* what we do not know.
For those in our society who suggest that people being cautious are cowards, for people who refuse to take even the simplest of precautions to protect themselves and those around them, I want to ask, without hyperbole and in all sincerity: How dare you?
How dare you risk the lives of others so cavalierly. How dare you decide for others that they should welcome exposure as "getting it over with", when literally no one knows who will be the lucky "mild symptoms" case, and who may fall ill and die. Because while we know that some people are more susceptible to suffering a more serious case, we also know that 20 and 30-year-olds have died, marathon runners and fitness nuts have died, children and infants have died.
How dare you behave as though you know more than medical experts, when those same experts acknowledge that there is so much we don't yet know, but with what we DO know, are smart enough to be scared of how easily this is spread, and recommend baseline precautions such as: Frequent hand-washing Physical distancing Reduced social/public contact or interaction Mask wearing Covering your cough or sneeze Avoiding touching your face Sanitizing frequently touched surfaces
The more things we can all do to mitigate our risk of exposure, the better off we all are, in my opinion. Not only does it flatten the curve and allow health care providers to maintain levels of service that aren't immediately and catastrophically overwhelmed; it also reduces unnecessary suffering and deaths, and buys time for the scientific community to study the virus in order to come to a more full understanding of the breadth of its impacts in both the short and long term.
I reject the notion that it's "just a virus" and we'll all get it eventually. What a careless, lazy, heartless stance.”
Copy and paste to share.

I still think something like this virus caused my son's weird neurological problems. He was very sick before it started, his "outbreaks" are cyclical, etc...
This is one of the main things I find scary about this virus and the people who don't take it seriously. It could ruin the rest of people's lives and there's no way to know if you fall into that category.
