On Worldometers, Ga has 3441 cases and 13 deaths. 3871 with 37 deaths yesterday Now that a miracle for sure! Overnight healing and resurrection apparently-maybe they had a tent revival and laying on of hands.

McInane-y apparently just said “the science should not stand in the way of” reopening schools.
Bitch.
The good news is a ton of retailers are following Walmart’s lead in requiring masks, and every day more states are issuing mandates. I think the CDC director has been awfully spineless but it looks like his comment about getting out of this in 4-6 weeks if people just wear their fscking masks has resonated.

What does she think we should do. Hope? Didn't republicans have a field day criticizing Obama's Hope campaign. Now they want to base decisions on what. The phase of the moon. Not seeing how this will be popular to parents or students. Lets just sacrifice our kids, they will probably grow up to be liberals anyway.

CNN reported yesterday that DeVos was told 11K children would likely die if schools opened. She was okay with that, apparently, since they are still pushing their narrative.
I would never send a child to school right now. Ever.

Whitmer is awesome. Dunno if she’d get reelected but she’s not letting that stop her from doing what she has to in a really hostile environment for it. Badass. Amazing how doing your job well is so notable in this situation. Shouldn't that be the default I mean...a number of governors have stepped up and done an adequate to good job. The problems are the contiguous nature of the US, the white house attitude, and also the fact that trainwreck governors make more interesting front pages. Whitmer stands out to me because she is governing a swing state with a very vocal red population that has conducted armed protests in front of her workplace, with no medical background that I am aware of; she has made good and necessary decisions and she hasn’t backed down. IME I would rank her handling higher than Northam in VA who similarly has a swing state but also an MD and less gun-happy opposition. This is not something any of the 50 of them signed on for, expected or were trained for when they won their states’ popularity contests 1-4 years ago. Some of them have more or less deliberately sucked ass at responding. The white house...man, every last member of that family is going to hell and not soon enough for me. But there are helpers too, if you take a moment to look for them.

I agree, I am just saying that our expectations have gotten so low, that a governor actually doing a good job, listening to experts, and making careful decisions is so remarkable. When you look at wood the governors in the south, it is amatory got elected

REPORTER: Well, we talked about earlier, the school districts overseeing more school districts, at least in Virginia for example last night, deciding to go online only. What does the President say to parents out there, who are now going ok what do I do with my kids?
KAYLEIGH: "The president has said unmistakably that he wants schools to open...When he says open, he means open and full, kids being able to attend each and every day at their school. The science should not stand in the way of this."
Trump's spokesdemon weighed in today. Yessiree, bob! The science should not stand in the way of this! They consulted chicken entrails and tea leaves, and decided to go with that. Maybe a psychic. But science? Pffft.

My county had the highest number of cases in the state yesterday. We do not have the highest population in the state.
One county reported 13 deaths. They had not reported any deaths to date. Further investigation showed they were from a nursing home that didn't want to be listed as a care center with an outbreak. I hope they at least told families that their loved ones were at risk.

Anger can be channeled into things like, say, figuring out a way to sue the toddler in chief for negligent mass homicide I’m not complacent, I’m furious. But I have to balance despairing over things I can’t change until November with things that might possibly make a positive difference, or else I’ll wind up in the loony bin. I’m not sure I can vote from there. Thank you for helping.

Iowa schools had to submit a Return to School plan to the state by July 15. Apparently the Governor didn't like the plans.
She announced this morning that she is requiring schools have in person classes at least half time. I know several school districts around me, where we have a high number of covid cases, planned on starting virtual until and if things calmed down.
Iowa also had the highest number of cases ever today. Guess her "date and metrics" don't apply to positive cases and rising number of people hospitalized.

Gov. Cuomo sent staff and test kits to establish two test sites in our hardest hit zip codes. I am so grateful because people are simply not able to get tests. And when they do, results are often 10 days out. The sites will be able to provide up to 1,000 tests per day each.

I think if Biden chose Romney or Cuomo as his VP then he would have a much better chance of actually winning. If he picks a woman simply for picking someone with a vagina, I really do think he has a chance of losing...
I agree that Trump et all should be charged with crimes against humanity - especially since they seem hell bent on murdering children, teachers, and school workers.

I guess I was wrong thinking the rabid anti-maskers were few and loud, and the rest non-mask wearers were not really protesting, just not really complying either. {{sigh}}

Backing away from his promise to have a female on the ticket would result in a lot of no shows in November.

77,255 new cases yesterday. I guess that means we need less testing and data so that will magically go away so everyone can work and send their kids to school... /not.
Oregon posted another record yesterday.

I don't understand why someone's genitalia should have anything to do with who will be best to serve America's needs. If he chooses wrong, this could end this country as we know it. Imagine 4 more years of this clusterfuck? I can't even imagine how horrid it could become.

Do you think that Romney or Cuomo would "best serve America's needs", whatever that means as far as our needs from a Vice President? Do you think that there is not one female in this country who could fill them as well as either of those two men? Or is about electability?

I think what you are saying is that genitalia does matter... you just think a penis is what is necessary for him to win.

Hmmm. This thread is starting to look like it should move over to the politics board.
My state seems to be holding at a new infection rate that is roughly double the lowest we saw. What worries me is a Post article noting that people are waiting more than 7 days for test results, which borks up contact tracing and means the real time reporting is actually about a week old. I suppose the good news is that testing volume is holding steady at around 20k tests a day and the positivity rate is staying below 5%. The bad news is that the numbers don’t seem to be internally consistent (0.0443 x 24000 tests > the number of reported positives). Bugs me bc it makes me wonder where exactly the inconsistencies come from.
Rt for my county looks to be hovering around 1, but spiky. I’d hate to see FL’s Rt right now.
Baltimore area looks to be gaining infections faster than my area. I can only tell because I try to leave a tab open for each day’s statewide report.

I would take Romney over Trump any day, but why in the world would Biden choose him for a running mate? I know I'm a bit out of the loop with the news and all. Did he change parties, or is there a Dem. that also has the last name of Romney?

I really think reopening schools is going against their final agenda. I mean, most parents don't like science, so if you really want to get rid of science, you don't want to send the kids back to school where they may actually learn it. They should just require workplaces to have locked rooms with video cameras and parents can bring their kids to work and put them in there. edit - on further thought, maybe they are trying to drive people out of teaching. One of my facebook friends just posted that their son's teacher is taking the year off to get her masters.

Sorry about bringing in politics. No, I don't believe it should matter at all the gender of the VP. I don't understand the push to make it a woman - it should be whoever will help Biden get elected and Trump out. Period.

I think the key to the 2020 Presidential election will be turnout. Biden selecting another old white guy will drive down Democratic turnout by the progressive wing of the party.

I'm not anti-science. I love it, actually, and I'm also very concerned about covid19. I've also really liked almost all of my kids' teachers. If I thought I could do better, I would DIY in a heartbeat, but the teachers they've had are better teachers than I am, and they do a great job in person. I also think they did well with what they had to work with online last spring, but it wasn't nearly as effective as in person learning. And I think it was good for everyone to get out of the house and have someplace to go most days, even though they can easily stay with me as I work from home. Even if I did homeschool, I'd want to take them places like the library and museums. It's just so hard when cutting out so many resources.
So, I would love for schools to open safely, if that is actually possible. I'm not sure it is, unfortunately. I'm just waiting to see what the schools are planning, to see if that jives with my comfort level, which seems to change daily. We are acquainted with the district superintendent, and I don't envy his position in the least. This is so freaking hard! I think things are going to change as we go through this. That's just the nature of the beast.
I think Trump and his minions can shove their opinions to where the sun don't shine. They don't really care about anything but their own agendas.
