I throw my banana peels on the garden to add phosphorus for the bulbs. Somehow I just don't think the HOA "police" would approve of a very large section of the front yard being strewn with banana peels. Nope. They wouldn't. They'd land on us like stink on sh!t and demand that they be removed post haste if not sooner.

My wife isn't too thrilled about seeing the banana peels either. The coffee grounds are okay with her though. She stopped me from throwing vegetables on the grass for the bunnies. Guess I should start using my old compost bin again.

It'll stop raining some day, the lawn will dry out, and I'll be able to mow again.
St. Swithin's Day is July 15. Whatever the weather on St. Swithin's Day is supposed to be the weather for the next 40 days and 40 nights.
Somebody is not truthin' because it didn't rain and was hotter than Hades on July 15. This sounds like something to be taken up with the proper authorities. Anybody know who they are? Got a toll-free number? Email addy? URL?

I'm not sure if we will get some from this hurricane or not, we could sure use it.

I/we are in the window for 2-6 inches of rain, isolated tornadoes and power outages due to wind gusts from the storm. More than likely it will sprinkle here and a 2 mph wind gust will take out the power for several days.

Thunderstorm went through here last night. Mostly lightning. Only got .02" of rain. Liking my new wireless, self emptying rain gauge.

The storm took out a several of my flowers in that bed last night, including my tithonia... it was crazy winds. Sigh. I'll put those on the list to start for next year.

I went out yesterday morning and sprayed for leaf rollers on the cannas. That was my contribution in the garden...this week. The plan for next year's garden is coming along nicely, though ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/smile.gif) It's mostly figured out...what's gonna go where, what didn't work this year, what didn't thrive and wants to be moved, what just plain didn't like the heat. I'm on a planning roll.

I spent some time with the plants this morning. The flowers got deadheaded. Hopefully the one will bloom again now. I pulled all the dead parts off the tomato and squash plants.
I finally got some ripe tomatoes. Of course it's only cherry ones but DH can have them in salad.
I'm hoping the time spent outside ignoring the house was good for me mentally.

Walmart had bulbs for spring flowers. I bought four packages of 35 each of different varieties of daffodils. Planting them should keep me busy and off the streets for a couple of mornings this week.

I took the watering system hubs made for me and watered most of my plants. I weeded one flower bed all across the front of the garage area, have more places to do.
I need to dig my potatoes, I watered the strawberries, peppers, and tomatoes, not sure why, don't need more. Watered the apple trees and the peach plus shrubs.
But I have a ton of weeding to do, did all I could today. Hopefully I can this week, sounds like its going to cool down, that will sure help.
We have to plant 3 shrubs to replace the others, but waiting till it cools down more.

Still getting a good amount of wild blackberries from the bushes out back.
Our apple trees look good. One actually fell over and split. The apples are still on it and continue to ripen.
This season picked strawberries, blueberries, cherries and peaches. Did some jams and pies.
Did some pickles also.
Hoping to get enough from our tomato plants to do cold pack.
Got corn from the farm across the street and froze a good amount.
My zinnias, gladiolus, clematis, petunias and assorted other things seemed to do well this year.

My green beans are almost ready to pick. They’ve still got lots of flowers, so maybe I’ll have enough to freeze.

I'd been entertaining the notion of spending a couple of mornings this week planting the daffodil bulbs, but it's too darned warm. Heat index for the next couple of days is supposed to exceed 100. Maybe next week. Or the week after. It's not like time is of the essence.

I am letting my green plants die and dry, going to pick the pods and do shelly beans. I can them in half pints, then add to a quart of green beans, so good.

Look to Lowes, Home Depot and nurseries to have sales on perennials and shrubs as they move that stuff out to make room for live holiday greenery and such.

I'm not spending another penny on the garden. At least not this year. Nope. All I'm gonna do is plant the daffodil and allium bulbs that I already have. Then I'm done until it's time to put the garden to bed around early- to mid-November. Done.

For those of you who wondered about bulb food. It's merely fertilizer, like blood meal or bone meal.

Best to leave most of the the fruit trees to the pros.. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/wink.png) .

I deserve a medal, maybe even a parade. The daffodil bulbs are planted. Okay, most of them are planted. There were 140 of them, and it turned out that I didn't need that many. There are maybe about 40 left, and those will get planted here and there in the garden in back.
There are still allium bulbs that want to be planted and some allium that need to be moved.
I gotta remember to take the B-complex vitamins every day so I don't wear out before doing a day's work!
