Rose hips apparently... thank Google. No wait... it sounded like the description, but doesn't look like the images...

What are these weird balls on my rose bush? ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200810/1796b816fd3c938db09b86bda1b85b5b.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200810/9cc81a93a9aa2b0b5916e9511ba135ff.jpg) I ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200810/c90916c1de9f960f7ae17326ebb62ef5.jpg) Rose hips? Best guess but do a google search! I’m just guessing.

I guess I thought rose hips were something totally different. I posted on here before I even left my rose garden. 😆

I bought this at a little boutique yesterday because I like the color. It’s not labeled. Any guesses? ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200810/0ed1499fd869e91b8cc4195107bb4388.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200810/082b56025e2a0d9ce0b36ffd5ded6ba0.jpg)

Yes. Ok. Rose Hips. They are green but if they can mature in your climate then they turn red/orange and you can use them... but they need up to 120 days to mature depending on the length of daylight, etc. so apparently they don't mature everywhere. Its like the fruit of the rose? Apparently it has a ton of vitamin C

Digging up and dividing bulbs is a giant PITA and takes foreffingever. They haven't been replanted yet because it got too darned hot to work more. Tomorrow. Or Sunday. Or some other day. I wish I had as much money as I have time. That’s what killed my dahlia tubulars—I left them out for like a month after I pulled them up.

I'm glad you brought it up. I didn't know what rose hips were.
That is a shade plant right... it starts with a C I think...

You can use them for rose hip tea. As kids we used to break them off and eat them. Leaving the iris bulbs out won't hurt them. Think about what they look like when you buy them...dry and fugly, and that's after they've probably been packaged for months. A couple of weeks won't hurt them as long as the dirt has been cleaned off and they're kept dry. Dahlias? We won't discuss how many times I've screwed up dahlias except to say that it's been done enough that I've learned to either grow them as annuals or just admire somebody else's. BTW, you've been Knee Deep in Water Chloe for an awfully long time. Isn't it time to graduate to head above water?

Definitely rose hips. Thanks!
Yay, Coleus! Thank you for that too!
@missrigby, I suppose I could go to Waist or Knee Deep Chloe. I started as Underwater Chloe because I had way too many houses and no equity and no cash.
When I got down to owning only the house in which I live, I changed it to Treading Water.

More iris bulbs dug up and divided. I think I'm done in that part of the garden now. The flowers have been watered, and now the lawn is getting a drink. We've been threatened promised heavy rain this afternoon, but that's been the case for days. Nothing happens. If we get rain, then the flowers and the lawn will get an extra dose.
I made fresh peach cobbler. Guess what I'm having for lunch?

Where I am Coleus is an annual... NoNamePerson do you get it to winter over? I’m on the Gulf Coast. Semi tropical weather. So yep, can just about over winter most plants here. Heck, heat comes nearer to killing plants than cold.

We've had very few butterflies this year. Saw our first Monarch on our Butterfly weed recently. Hoping she laid eggs. Never had any caterpillars. I have a Butterfly bush too.

Yes Tithonia. I planted this bed this year, most of the perennial flowers I bought from a local nursery that sells small perennial starters at 36 plants for 39.99 .... and I have been happy with how well the starters grew in to their own in one season but honestly I grew this tithonia and a hollyhock from seed this year (started them in pots) and they are bigger than anything else. I have taken some pictures of individual plants, but maybe I'll try to take some long angles of the entire bed today.
There is some milkweed in this bed. I planted 3. I think only 2 took. They were definitely the smallest of the starters. They are still relatively very small. One is looking decidedly eaten up? I thought only the babies ate the milkweed? I haven't seen any eggs yet. I hope these plants get bigger for next year and I bought some seed to stratify and start myself so that I can plant a lot more next year. But overall this bed, and the large stretch of yard I let go wild this year, have been pulling in a ton of bees and butterflies just like I hoped.
The tithonia is very busy... There were at least 4 monarchs on the plant at once yesterday as well as a variety of other butterflies and bees flitting around.

At our last house I had a Butterfly Bush that would get over 8'. I'd stand there and deadhead it while butterflies and bees flew around leaving me alone. Hardly any butterflies or bees here. Here I have a big Butterfly bush and a pink Butterfly weed that is 4 years old. Thought it died last year so I started orange ones from seed. Put 6 into my garden. They won't flower until next year. Both houses are in zone 7b.

I seriously don’t remember planting my butterfly Bush here but I know I took cuttings from the old place and it’s growing near my well opening which is something I would have done so... ? It’s in an unfinished section that looks rough so I hate to share a pic 😜 but it is tall.
I’m currently researching and making lists of the fruit and nut trees I want to plant in the back yard, along with the companion plants etc.

I finally got one squash off my plants. The stupid tomatoes split. I'm sure they got dry while we were away and then we got a big thunderstorm with flood warnings followed by the hurricane remnants.
I have a few small red ones that haven't split, maybe we'll get to harvest those. I can't even eat the dumb things. Next time I'm planting what I want and if my MIL wants tomatoes she can get her own plant.

Plenty of flowers for butterflies and other pollinators. The one problem with tithonia is it can overwhelm a smallish flower bed. There is another variety you can sew and it's called Fiesta Del Sol. Grows on average to three feet tall. I bought some Fiesta Del Sol seeds this past spring but never got around to planting them. There is always next year.

My Butterfly Bush is a tri-color. Actually they put roots of 3 colors together. White, pink and red. They don't all flower at the same time, but close. Birds have sowed seeds in the stone driveway. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/rofl.gif) I want a dark purple like a Black Knight.

I planted tithonia last year. It was a very happy plant and grew and grew and grew until it was about 8-10 feet tall and kept falling over even though it was staked. It's a perennial, at least down here, so I had to keep pulling up shoots all during the spring and still have to pull some up.
The forecast rain still hasn't happened. It rains all around us, sometimes as close as just a couple of blocks away. I'm so gullible that most days I believe the forecast and don't water. The radar will show that the rain is coming, then the future forecast will show that it's going to rain on us at whatever o'clock. Whatever o'clock comes and goes without raining on us. Why would I believe the forecast?

Lately I've seen white mushrooms in lawns around here. This morning mine had some and I saw a squirrel eating them. At least he stopped making his normal holes in my yard to get it.

Got my new noodler and so dinner last night was almost entirely from the garden (bought garlic and spicy sausage but the pepper, onion, tomato, basil, oregano, parsley, zuch and yellow squash were mine). Ok. I guess the cheese was pretty important and I bought those 😜 ![](https://i.postimg.cc/634T9c64/F61-BB2-FA-5312-4-B0-E-A2-CB-B468-FB4-E6533.jpg) ![](https://i.postimg.cc/Vvyv5t5G/463-E759-C-B6-A0-4-E79-9-F50-60-CD60-CE0-D3-F.jpg)
