Jealous! We had rain in the forecast all week, predicted over and inch, finally got a measly shower today. All it did was make the humidity worse.

We have a Meyer lemon tree in our front yard . A few years ago , another one started growing in the backyard, figured one of the many critters that visit our yard must have dropped a lemon . Bonus . Ever plant one thing and over time end up with a completely different plant? Bought some day lillies from a nursery years ago. The plants were in the nursery's own plastic pots. Planted the lilies and they grew and flowered for a few years. Since then they have slowly morphed into ornamental micanthus grasses. There must have been some dried Miscanthus grass roots in the bottom of the reused plastic pots that slowly took on a life of their own. In truth I like the miscanthus grass better than the day lillies. I planted a mix of iris and over the years the all turned peach color. I swear I didn’t buy any that color, I don’t like peach iris just the purple ones. I accused DH of trying to gaslight me by replacing the irises one at a time in the dead of night. He reminded me he doesn’t know what an iris is.

Ditto-we were supposed to have thunderstorms and heavy rain Wednesday, Thursday and today. Nadda drop as of yet. Checked radar-some light rain in central Arkansas but nothing heavy yet or even close to us. THEY LIE! THEY LIE!!!!

We finally got a shower although we are still down more than 2.5 inches for the year. If that hurricane dumps some rain on us we may catch up. At least I don’t need to water the lawn today.

Yes it was really big. The others are minis though so relativity. There is also an acorn squash there which seemed early but was ready so excited for that for dinner tomorrow.

While I was hand watering the garden today, an immature ruby-throated hummingbird, not much bigger than the width of a silver dollar, was feeding on the Turks cap sub-shrub I have in the garden bed. The below is the turks cap sub-shrub. Hummingbird not included in the photo. ![](https://www.calloways.com/wp-content/uploads/H145-03.jpg)

Tennesseer That's really pretty. How tall is it? Is it like a bush?

Tennesseer That's really pretty. How tall is it? Is it like a bush? It can be. Depends if it stand alone or not. Mypine is grouped in with other tall lilies and sages so it kind of grows up and out close to the ground. It also needs to be cut back to the ground each spring. There is also a giant turks cap with flowers 2-3 inches long and can grown up to 12 feet high. Woody perennial. Zones 9b and above best for it.

I need to go out and pick beans tomorrow, neighbor, I hope, cleaned out the tomatoes for me yesterday. Check peppers and cukes, they are probably huge again. If there are strawberries will pick those and pull the rest of the turnips. that will catch me up for a bit.
I still need to weedeat behind my roses, don't know if I will get to that tomorrow or not, will try.
Have a phone conference for DD at 10, then at 4 her music therapist does and hour online with her.
And my car is dirty in and out. May take it across the street from the little house, while I am working there, and have it detailed, she is not cheap but does a nice job.

I spent a few hours digging up and dividing iris bulbs. It's hot. I'm tired and done for the day.

Okay then. I'm tired of fighting fungus on the lawn and tired of throwing money away on fungicide. Not to mention that the one that seems to work at least temporarily cannot be found anywhere. Iamthisclose to tearing up the lawn and replanting with Bermuda grass. I don't like Bermuda. I like fescue. Bermuda turns brown in the winter and has to be dethatched way too often. Fescue stays green all year long unless, of course, the !@#$%&*! fungus gets it.
Are we at war again? Does the disappearance of fungicide have something to do with the war effort?
Dividing more iris bulbs this morning.

Digging up and dividing bulbs is a giant PITA and takes foreffingever. They haven't been replanted yet because it got too darned hot to work more. Tomorrow. Or Sunday. Or some other day. I wish I had as much money as I have time.

Yesterday more bulbs were dug up and divided. Some were replanted, some saved for an iris garden that it's my plan to have in front of the house. More bulbs were dug up this morning, some replanted, more saved for the planned garden in front. It got too darned hot to stay outside any longer. The older I get, the less I can tolerate the heat. Way back in the way back, I'd be out there as soon as it was light enough and stay out all the live long day. Last year, I started fading around noon. This year, I can manage a couple of hours (with breaks) before I retreat. Getting older was a piece of cake. It just happened a little at a time ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/wink.png) Actually being older sucks big hairy donkey balls

Gah. Japanese beetles have decimated my massive rose bush. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/angry2.png) I'm mad I didn't notice sooner, DS had mentioned something about beetles eating the roses, but I kind of blew it off, now it's probably half the leaves are eaten to almost nothing. I covered it with Sevin this morning hoping that helps, but then I panicked remembering the bees and threw sheets over it to keep them off. This bush is 16 years old and never had a problem with insects at all before.

When I get Japanese beetles I take a container like a coffee can and put about 3" of water in it with an once of oil. Old engine oil to expensive olive oil will work. Then I flick the beetles into the can.

@missrigby, what color irises do you have? I have yellow ones at this property. I had purple ones at a previous property. I divided my irises last year. While the leaves came up this year, they didn't bloom. I also split my dahlia tubulars last year. I did a piss-poor job and killed them. I'm still annoyed with myself.

I like lots of other colors, too, but mine are all blue. I won't buy any others because there are hundreds--hundreds!--of them. I have this thing about killing a living thing and don't know what I'd do with all the hundreds of bulbs that I wouldn't use. Haven't even been able to give them away. Some of them I've just tossed out into the wooded side yard so here and there in the spring there are irises blooming randomly here and there. Irises need to get plenty of morning sun to bloom. Did you plant yours where they'll get morning sun? I don't monkey with dahlias. They're too picky and sensitive.
