I’m a stone mason’s wife though... and A lot of the time when I’m walking barefoot it’s on stone not soil... ![](https://i.postimg.cc/NfxGggSs/8-A20-A6-A6-03-FF-469-B-B6-E6-DFFF33425-EE0.jpg) ![](https://i.postimg.cc/wTzT8tW4/EB8-B8-AD0-7-AD9-4-EB5-BAA7-9-BA9490-C7-B51.jpg) You're killing me with that garden. It's gorgeous!

You’re definitely ahead of us, growing season-wise Yeah, but this came up on facebook memories today... and I'm still so far away from broccoli heads ... I did get lettuce for my salad yesterday, and we've been using spinach for a week. Also had a few cherry belle radishes. We need to keep Gardening on the front page ! Keep posting. ![](https://i.postimg.cc/Gmzp42Th/3-years-ago.jpg)

When I'm out with my coffee in the morning, I see a shasta daisy that looks like it's on steroids. It's about 4' tall and at least as wide, has buds on it but so far only one has opened. I really want to divide it and move it to the other side of the garden but don't want to screw it up so that the buds don't open. I'm tempted to cut it way back so that it's small enough to move. I would say soothing words while I'm doing it, like "this hurts me more than it hurts you," or "you'll be fine; the pain is short-lived."
You think it's hard being a pet mom? It's just as hard being a plant mom.

I just couldn't bring myself to amputate parts of the shasta daisy so instead I took bachelor buttons and ixia out of their pots (because they finally got big enough to survive in the ground) and planted them. I hope the critters don't munch out on the bachelor buttons.
It's already too hot to do anything else out there.

There are fireflies in the garden. Bet y'all are jealous. A few weeks early for us. We had a hummingbird maybe a month or 2 ago then none. The temps went down afterward and have been fluctuating. But it was 91* today.

It was 90 or so here today. Went out and watered plants since we haven’t had rain in the past couple of days and I don’t want the new plants to dry out. Picked peas and now have enough for a meal, so I’ll cook them tomorrow with herb chicken. Yum!

Everybody has had a big drink of cool water this morning. Those shasta daisies that I mentioned? I looked and looked at them and decided that I'd take a chance on traumatizing them. Split two big sections off the main plant and planted them in back of the new border that I finished last weekend. I hope I didn't kill 'em. It's hot again today, and for most of the day, they're in the sun. Poor things. They'll perk up during the night, I think.
And I raked up a buncha magnolia leaves. Love the trees. Hate the mess they make.

ken a.k.a OMK The trees are at the back of the lot behind when the flower beds are so they don't interfere with the mower. It's the stupid leaves that get to me. It's impossible to use the blower on them, and they land facing up making a nice "bowl" for rain water or water from the hose or sprinkler. If I don't keep after them, they provide a nice breeding ground for mosquitos and they encourage fungus growth around my flowers. However...the blooms are beautiful and smell divine.

Wow. That was quick. I ordered new gardening boots on Monday and got them today. Woohoo. Only trouble with pretty new boots is that I don't wanna get 'em all dirty in the garden.

That looks like a tulip tree.
I got up early and attacked some housekeeping jobs in the garden. Or would those be gardenkeeping jobs? Anyway. I wondered why the gladiolus at the back of the garden had buds but wouldn't bloom so went up there and did an inspection. Bugs. The bugs got them! Well. I'm smarter than the bugs and Sevin spray is meaner. Bugs gone but glads had to be cut back. There are others that are just now setting their spikes. Maybe the bugs didn't get to them yet or maybe the Sevin will act in time.
That's what I did until it got too hot to stay outside. I even cleaned up my mess and hosed off the patio. There's more to do tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow...

I need to get my peas moved and something for them to climb up. Also need to find a tomato plant or two. And plant my squash. I have 2 pots of pansies going into fresh soil. The other 2 look amazing.

Transplanted most of my seedlings, grown from seed, into the ground yesterday. Sunflower and Zinnia. Just watered them and started planting the marigolds. I know I'm late but they will all catch up. They are about 8".

wvugurl26 You can buy plastic lattice and anchor it for your peas. Measure for how wide it needs to be and ask to have it cut to size before you leave the store. ken a.k.a OMK Wow. Sure seems like a late start. I don't plant sunflowers because I don't much care for them but planted marigolds two months ago that are already blooming. The cannas have started blooming, too, and they are so pretty! They're only about 3' high now. In a few weeks they'll be 5-6'. This morning I cut the foliage off the glads that I pulled up yesterday and replanted the bulbs in another spot. I dunno if they'll survive or not because they aren't supposed to be cut back until the foliage turns brown, but I didn't want to leave them in the flower bed in case I didn't get all the bugs and have them infect all the rest. With a little luck, the others will bloom and be fine. This morning's garden adventure started at 7:30. By 9:30 it was already getting hot; by 10 I had to give up for the day.

Planted orange, yellow, red, and green sweet peppers. Dd7 said we are missing purple lol. Planted 4 tomato plants, a zuc, basil, oregano, thyme, and rosemary. Dh planted corn. Last year he babied 5 stalks and they ripened while we were in vacation. He says that isnt going to happen this yr lol. Got too tired after also mowing the lawn so need to finish lettuces tomorrow. Need to hit the store for green beans. Dd7 is eating loves to eat those and strawberries straight off the plants. At our grocery store, there's a new orange-yellow hybrid bell pepper. Maybe you can find those? My younger daughter would have wanted purple too!

I got a rosemary delivered from the local community garden. Didn’t mind 5$ for one plant... they take a long time to grow... but, lol Most of my peppers that came up are hot, so I ordered some red bells and thought I was ordering 4 packs... they were 3$ which is twice what the Amish place charges for a 4 pack but I figured, support the garden... but they were single pepper plants? And no bigger than would be in a multiples pack... I laughed. My rosemary is huge. It’s up against the back wall of the house and faces east. It was just a title stick with a couple of branches when I got it. It’s now taken over the whole bed. I need to cut it back. Planted the rest of the knockout roses yesterday and today with help of two DGS’s. We also weeded the front flower beds and put down fresh mulch. It looks really nice. If I knew how to post pictures, I’d do so, but I’m a Luddite still. Ugh. On the property line between my property and one of the neighboring properties, there was a huge rosemary bush. The previous owners had no problem with me clipping from it whenever I needed to. Then, they were abruptly moved out by their adult children (dementia for the mom). The adult children sent in a landscape maintenance crew to clean up to list the property. THEY RIPPED OUT THE ROSEMARY.

I finally planted some seeds in cardboard egg cartons. I know it's late, and I have no idea if this is going to work.

I finally planted some seeds in cardboard egg cartons. I know it's late, and I have no idea if this is going to work. They will germinate but quickly get root bound and dry out often. The 6" seedlings I've been putting into the ground are wilting and I've watered them 3 times today. It was 91* yesterday but a cooler 80* today.

I plan to transplant them into the bigger garden once (if ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/wink.png) ) they become seedlings. I don't know much about it, but my mom used to transplant seedlings at a greenhouse for a little extra money back when I was a tween (and I'd hang out there with her during spring break). They transplanted way before they hit 6". It's only upper 70's here today. It doesn't tend to get that hot until July/August. However, it's supposed to be 84 and 92, before heading back down to high's in the 60's for several days.

I started mine in plastic trays. Cells were about 1-1/2 square by 2-1/2 deep. Watered from underneath. Now they have great root systems coming out and are about 6" high. Just getting stressed going into the real ground.

These egg cartons I'm starting with look like they're completely biodegradable, so I was thinking of maybe just planting each egg pod intact, maybe scoring the bottom, if necessary, but I don't think it will be. I tore the tops of the cartons off easily with my hands.
