I'm going out to walk among my plants... because I just can't with people today.

My plants look good but the humidity is up... so I’m back indoors. Maybe I’ll pot some perennial seeds I’m hoping to grow inside for the summer to plant out in fall.

Thunderstorm so I had to come in, but I did get a good start on my border. Halfway through I realized that it was already much too hot to be working outside. Tomorrow I need to get an earlier start.

It’s just now time to get plants in to the ground, here. Yesterday, I cleaned, amended, and turned over 3 beds. I then planted 8 various tomato plants, 11 various lettuce plants, 9 broccoli plants, 4 cauliflower plants, 4 Provider bean plants, 3 more rows of carrots, and 4 Provider bean plants. I still have to plant various peppers, eggplant, zucchini, summer squash, butternut squash, cantaloupe, and sunflower seeds. I also trimmed back a bunch of limbs from my neighbor’s trees hanging over my back fence and cut back a ton of invasive bitter sweet. They say that gardening is the original full body workout and I’m feeling it today..

My two favorite veggies but it is way to warm to grow those here. My son tried and tried but a no go. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/tongue2.png) But can't/shouldn't complain since he keeps me in other vegs all spring/summer/fall and sometimes winter. Enjoy your bounty!!!

Ideally I plant out broccoli and anything in that family 6-8 weeks before tomatoes and peppers etc. Broccoli like cool weather. And if you plant them early they mature BEFORE the bugs get to them and lay eggs/hatch worms. Spinach can start pretty early too... Lettuce can start a little early and but not as early.

I think she is in zone 5. I'm in 7b. You look like just barely into 7. But the weather this year has defied all planning IMO.

We were building new beds this year (finally... 4th spring in the house? ) and I didn't get spring things in as early as I liked because of that too... now I'm sewing netting bags ... eh. But it did help that it stayed cooler longer... for spring things... the 'take a risk' first seedlings I planted out May 1st didn't make it though. I didn't used to plant spring things so early... a little early yeah... but one year we went to Romania in spring, for 3 weeks, and I was like, wait 3-4 weeks, or plant them before we go... and figured I'd give it a try and had the BEST production... I started always doing them that early and most of the time it works out really well. I think 1 year I had to replant some. I like broccoli and cabbage and brussel sprouts, etc ...

oped I've enjoyed your pictures on fb. Quite a big landscaping job. I just planted 2 tomatoes and 4 zinnias bought Thursday. Almost followed our rule of planting the same day. When we were young and working we'd buy on the weekend then get too busy during the week to plant and they'd die. Doing a little at a time now that I've got some energy and mobility back. 244# to 180# in 3 months with the help of the diuretic Lasix. Heart still holds me back.

My son just called and asked “need some tomatoes, squash and red bell peppers, green beans?? He’s headed my way with bounty! Of course he’s also picking up birthday card and gift! We usually all go out to eat since 3 family members have birthday’s close together. Still hesitant on their end about eating out. Me, I say have at it! But I love eating out!

I learned the hard way to never bring home more plants than I had prepared for and had time to plant same day! Digging in dirt does the heart good!

Border at the back edge of the garden is done done done! Well. Done until I change my mind about how it looks and decide to do a little rearranging As soon as I finished my coffee this morning, I was dressed and rarin' to go. Did a bunch of garden housekeeping, transplanted some baby plants from their pots to the ground, and then tackled the rest of the border. I was done by 11. Yay me. Now I get to, as we say in the South, set a spell. All I need is a mint julep.

We're Zone 5. We get frosts around here as late as June 5th. I know the cool weather plants like to go in as early as possible, but between working tons of hours, the crappy weather we've had this Spring and the fact that we also added new beds, it didn't happen. They might fry, or, if the cool weather continues here, they might do okay. I had them, so I planted them. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I went out to sit on the patio and admire the garden without a mint julep. It didn't feel right so I fetched the mower and mowed the lawn. If I had a mint julep, it would feel right to sit there and admire the garden and the freshly-mowed lawn.

@pinkcshmere I wear gardening boots whenever I'm working in my garden. As squirrely as you are about bugs in the lawn or flowers, why not try a pair of gardening boots? I order online from Tractor Supply. Here's a link to the kind I wear. You can also get shorter ones, but since we live in an area where copperheads are not uncommon, I like mine to be the tall ones. They start at $20. An added bonus: you can stomp mole tunnels all day long when you're wearing them www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/western-chief-womens-prim-paisley-rubber-shoes-tsc2100500p?cm_vc=IODEPT

I joke with DBF about needing to wear combat gear to go work in the yard, seems like I would’ve thought of gardening boots, but I hadn’t. Thanks!

@pinkcshmere You're welcome. I was reminded when I placed an order just now for a new pair for myself. Shipping is free. My total including tax is $21.20!

Half the time I’m barefoot 😜 And I'm wearing boots, with my pants tucked in to my socks, and my legs sprayed from hip to toe with DEET to keep the ticks at bay. Oh, and I've been wearing the same gardening socks and same gardening pants for weeks now. If the DEET won't get the ticks, the smell will. Hey, @pinkcshmere: I thought of you this weekend. A beautiful garter snake was sunning itself in one of my rock gardens. When it left, it had shed and left behind a perfect, one piece, layer of snake skin. I promptly laid the snake skin in the raised bed I am growing my tomatoes in to hopefully train the chipmunks to stay away from that bed. Oh, and a baby snake was slithering through the day lilies yesterday. ![](https://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff155/JiminiChristmas/ymamsmiles/lol.gif) I told it, and the larger snake, to eat the chipmunks!!

Half the time I’m barefoot 😜 Are you up to date on your tetanus shots? Contrary to popular belief, tetanus does not live on rusty nails. It lives in soil/dirt.

People online kept complaining about how their immune systems were going to disappear if they stayed away from people for 3 months.... I’m like, even if it worked that way... you never play in the dirt?
