Petunias and one of my hostas. This hosta is about 5 ft across right now, but will get bigger.

Beautiful, CCL. Five feet! And your petunias are prodigious.

Apologies if this has been discussed...
Wondering what kinds of pots are best for indoor hanging plants? I have a couple that do best being watered from the bottom, and roots shouldnt sit in water but I haven't found pots that accommodate that well when hanging and when googling mostly find gimmicks.
I have a Swiss cheese plant that did well hung up, but it was in its plastic pot inside a ceramic one. We noticed a build up of lime (I think) on the outside of the ceramic pot and assumed water was sitting in the bottom of it too long.

Hmmm... how often do you need to water them? If it's once a week or so I'd set the pots in an inch or 2 of water and let them soak it up. Let them drip dry then hang back up. If you water more frequently that's probably too much work.
I wouldn't be too concerned about lime buildup if it's growing well. Ceramic pots always seem to have some sort of staining on the pots. Maybe just switch to 2 plastic pots, the inner pot with drainage holes, the outer one without holes? You could always water less often to be sure it dries between waterings or water less each time.

Abby requested I plant dasies because I have lilies and Lily is not her middle name. She wanted flowers named after her.
I found some at Walmart. They are perennials so they will come back every year.

My project for today was to divide and relocate some of my hostas. My back's not cut out for too much of that.

Our PNW weather has not been very hospitable this spring with late frosts and cooler than normal temps. We finally put in a container vegetable garden on the west facing side of the house. We had nine large black plastic containers sitting around from other garden projects than we put into use this year. We're hoping the heat reflected from the house will help our tomatoes ripen. We've had bunches of tomatoes in the past that never made it past the hard green stage. It has been so discouraging.

Every day I peer at my tomato plants, hoping to see some more tomatoes, but I still have just that 1. I sent DD another picture of it yesterday because it’s grown so much already and 8yo DGD was so excited to see it that she called me to tell me how happy she is for me that I have a tomato. She is the sweetest, most gentle child I’ve ever known. I’m not saying that because she’s my Grandbaby, she really is. I’m hoping they’ll be able to come over this weekend since I’ll still be on vacation. I need her growing hands to touch all my plants, so I’m going to have her help me clean things up. She enjoyed helping me last year, and told DD she wants to help me with my tomato plants. I might get tons of tomatoes if she puts her magic hands on them. Even if I don’t though, I’ll still encourage her to help me, since she’s interested in it. As a matter of fact, I’ve been saying I was going to buy some daylilies to plant where they live, so she’ll have her own plant babies to nurture. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Or maybe I should let her plant some herbs. She has consistently said for at least 2 years that she wants to be a chef, she always wants to watch and help if I’m cooking. Chefs need fresh herbs, right? Right.

So it looks like I need to water my tomato plants every other day now. I watered them Sunday. They were looking kind of pitiful today, so I got my little handy dandy moisture meter, and yup, they needed water. My little lemon tree did not.
The mistreated plant is taller than the second ring on its cage now. Even Mister noticed and commented on how fast it’s growing. The other 3 aren’t far behind it.
Almost all of the flowers on my little lemon tree are gone now, and no lemons. Maybe it’s still too young to produce lemons. I’m keeping it anyway, lemons or no lemons.

We ate two little grape tomatoes. They could and should have been riper, but we figured they would not be there tomorrow

My Aerogarden tomatoes are producing blossoms! This is Very Exciting! I get excited about my plants too. I enjoy looking to see if I have new flowers. Lately though I feel like I’m on a treasure hunt when I’m looking at my tomato plants, hoping to discover tomatoes. So far I still have just that one for sure. But I think I have 2 more about the size of peas, on the same plant. I will be watching those over the next few days to see if I’m correct.

As she handed me each pot she told me what color the flower was, even though there was nothing showing but dirt on top. I thought she was a wizard. I finally asked her how she knew what color they would be and she showed me how she had a piece of tape on the bottom showing what color it was - as she sat on her stool and lifted them up yo me she could read the bottom. I prefer to remember her as a wizard though.

More hostas. I gave most of these away. All this rain has created a hosta jungle in my perennial bed.

My biggest one is my favorite. It has the green variegated leaves. With all this rain, the leaves have gotten bigger, for sure. My peony bush is really growing, too. Lots of buds this year. It's one of my favorites, too, but I planted it 4 years ago I think and this is the first year it has had a lot of buds. Last year there were 5, the year before 2 or 3. This year, maybe 20? I should go out and count them. I planted another peony in different color last year, but it doesn't have any buds so far My peppers are not growing well this year. Last year they didn't do well, either. Still plenty of time to perk up, though, so I'm not giving up yet. We've noticed this year (finally!) our trees and bushes we've planted in the back yard are getting a bit bigger. I'd love for them to fill in, so I don't have to see all my neighbors lol.

I have 2 more tiny tomatoes on the mistreated plant. And 1 on the other Celebrity plant. I am really getting a kick out of going on a treasure hunt every morning. All the flowers have fallen off my little lemon tree, BUT! I have one tiny lemon. For real this time lol. It looks different from the other things I thought might have been lemons. Like dannylion said, this is very exciting!

Buying flowers from Walmart is an adventure.
Bought what I thought were all red/white petunias but now have a random pink one.
Snapdragons were pink when planted but now have blood red blooms.
I find it fun. Now I'm interested in what color my Alidi lily is going to be. It's supposed to be pink and white. We'll see.

When I had the big outdoor garden, there were always a lot of green tomatoes left on the plants at the end of the season. I was subscribing to gardening magazines at the time, and one of them recommended harvesting the green tomatoes, soaking them in a diluted bleach solution (bacteria would promote spoilage), allowing them to dry thoroughly, wrapping them individually in newspaper, and storing them in a cool, dark, dry place to ripen. It sounded like a lot of effort, but turned out not to take much time at all, and I had ripe tomatoes for another few weeks. I expect there are better instructions online now if you wanted to see if that would work for your green tomatoes. Of course, fried green tomatoes are always an option when one finds oneself with a surfeit of green tomatoes.

I sent DD pictures of the baby tomatoes I discovered this morning to show DGD. I told y’all there were 3, but I looked again after I posted, and there are actually 5. It really does seem like a treasure hunt trying to see them when they’re only the size of a pea lol. She just showed the pictures of the 3 to 8yo DGD and she text me saying DGD was literally jumping up and down in excitement. DGS asked her “what is WRONG with you” and walked out of the room lol. DGD said she’s just happy for all the babies. She made up a song about the little baby “LEEE-MON” yesterday. I’m planning on them coming over this weekend. I think it will be fun to let DGD1 look for the tomato babies herself. It will be even better if we have a few more tomato babies by then and she finds them herself.

Mine is orderly chaos. I do get a lot of compliments though so I must be doing something right.😁

I do get a lot of compliments though so I must be doing something right.😁 I started off with a color scheme, purple (salvias and lavenders) and yellow (daylilies). I bought the “orange” daylilies that actually aren’t orange, on a whim. I don’t mind that they turned out to be a different color. I’m just happy with anything that survives my black thumb lol. Now that I think about it, they must not even be the variety of daylilies they are supposed to be because none of them have even tried to bloom yet and the yellow ones from the nursery are all blooming like crazy. The Home Depot ones were supposed to be the same variety lol. As long as you like what you have growing, who cares what anyone else thinks. I certainly don’t. But it’s nice to get compliments like you’ve gotten too. Keep up the good work!

Saw a new version on a local menu recently - fried green tomato and pimento cheese sandwich. Serve it with sweet tea - put a little south in your mouth!

So I went outside earlier and counted the buds on my peony bush (it's an exciting life we live over here lol). 39 buds!
