A local bakery is selling mini cupcake kits for kids to decorate. I'm going to make some for my niece to decorate. I have a thousand cupcake liners and tons of sprinkles. I'm doing regular size at her request.

I got $20+ shipping if anyone can score me one of those 1lb yeast bags from Costco...
I use it in pizza crust and bread and haven't been able to find any here.
I did visit the local Grocery Outlet today. They had an overabundance of hamburger and everything else one might need, minus toilet paper.
There are still a lot of complaints around town about those coming into this area to shop.

I was both shocked & pleased that our local grocery store actually had some hams today, so I grabbed one. Easter dinner!

An employee at the distribution center that supplies the grocery stores in my area tested positive for COVID 19. Many of the workers stopped working yesterday when they found out, wanting to know what their employer was going to do to try to help protect them. They say they’ve been asking their employer to take steps to help protect them, to no avail. So I guess this was the last straw for them. I really feel for them, I’m working in similar conditions, except we haven’t had a confirmed case yet, that I know of. This is the only large chain of grocery stores in our area. I can get to at least 3 in less than 10 minutes of driving from my house. Over the years, they’ve bought out all the smaller, local chains that were competitors. We do still have WalMart of course (where I loathe shopping and their shelves aren’t much better right now anyway), 1 Whole Foods, 1 Sprouts, and the smaller, I assume locally owned, grocery stores. This chain already hadn’t caught up with the demand and have empty shelves at every location. Idk what has happened since yesterday, but I hope they understand they better tell their employees at the distribution center something and do what they can to help them feel like the company is try to help keep them safe, or their customers are going to be even more unhappy than they already are because of the lack of items on the shelves. TheHaitian I know you worked hard even before this all happened, know that we appreciate it. Thank you! You and your family are in my prayers.

I admit that I’ve gone farther out into the small towns, in search of hand sanitizer. But I really do need it because of my job and I’ve been unable to find some to buy since this first started. My job is supposed to be providing it for us to use at work, and they are not. I finally do have a bottle now, but only due to someone else’s kindness and generosity. I will continue to search whenever I have to get out for some other need, and will probably venture out to the small towns again if I continue coming up handed. But I’m looking for hand sanitizer because it’s a real need as I try to protect myself as much as I can at work, and I’m not interested in buying a crazy amount. If I finally find some and say it’s only 2 left on the shelf, I’d have a hard time buying both instead of just buying 1 and leaving the other for someone else that might need some as much as I do. I’m kind of struggling with this “every man for himself” mentality. I understand why that didn’t feel right to you and that says a lot about your character. Good things. I think this shortage of necessities wouldn’t be so bad if so many people hadn’t started buying up everything way past just trying to make reasonably sure they have enough of what they need, but just to be greedy, and because they can.

Pink, your situation is so diff from mine and my friend's. I'm retired, so minimal need here. My friend is also retired, but her DH is diabetic and recently out of cancer surgery so lots of immune system issues at her house. You are out there on the frontline working, so do what is right for you and your family, I'm also struggling with the "every man for himself" thing quite a bit. I am nominally Christian, but also eminently practical. Humanity only moves forward when it moves together.

Maybe they didn't get much in overnight? My local Target, Sam's Club and Meijer have been doing a pretty good job of restocking, under the circumstances. You might give one of them a try if you have any in the area.

Really just cat litter and found that along with a couple of treats for me.

The thing that is going to drive us back to the grocery next week is fresh lemons and limes for the daily cocktails we have been needing to get through the evening news. (Just kidding, sort of, we will need milk about the same time.)

Seems like nothing was restocked overnight for the seniors. The last grocery order I picked up from Kroger (almost 2 weeks ago now, I think) the lady that brought my order out was talkative, and she said mine was the worst order she’d had at that point. I had THREE pages of substitution/out of stock items. They had none of the meat I’d ordered, none of the frozen vegetables, and didn’t even have any sugar. I’d ordered about $260 worth of groceries which isn’t unusual for my normal grocery shopping trips and with all the items that were out of stock, my total ended up being $124. She said they get trucks every day, but it’s hit or miss as to what’s on them. The truck they’d expected the prior Saturday never even showed up. And when they do get a truck in, the items fly off the shelves within hours. I ended up buying meat at a meat market. They had little to choose from, so I got what I could. I think I remember what part of town you live in from prior posts, if you like, I can send you the name of a fairly large “farmer’s market” that last I heard was pretty well stocked with meat and produce. Idk about paper products. Despite the name, it’s actually a whole grocery store and about as big as a Kroger, they also sell a large amount of ethnic foods. It’s in Cordova, so may be a bit farther than you want to drive. I’ve been inside myself a couple months ago, and it’s a neat, clean store that I never would’ve known about if I hadn’t just happened to be driving past it. Just let me know if you want details so you can look into it. There was a story on the news a few days ago about a lady in her 70’s (and I think disabled) who’d placed a delivery order with Kroger and, days after it was supposed to have been delivered, still hadn’t received her order and couldn’t get answers from Kroger. It made me so sad, because I’m sure there are others like her, who can’t easily get out to try to get at least something to eat. I hope and pray someone helped her get some food. I’m afraid that what happened at the distribution center just makes everything even worse. It’s aggravating and frustrating having to search for what I need and want, but I realize it’s a blessing that I have the health and resources to even try to find things. I really feel for our seniors and other more vulnerable people, especially those with limited resources. I guess you really wanted some Rotel, huh? I hope you can get the foods you need and want soon. This is a whole mess!

I'm pretty glad I bought a big bag of lemons before this started. I cut them up and put them in the freezer. I can use them as garnish or ice cubes now. They're multipurpose!

I am a co-owner in our local grocery store. I have put in numerous overtime hours and hours at all times of the night and day to get product on our shelves for our customers. I wonder when it will slow down.
The last order we ordered 1600 grocery items...only grocery...no fresh product...and only received about 658 of the items we ordered. The fresh departments were short about the same amount of product. They did manage to send me a pallet of toilet paper but no cleaning supplies, canned goods, cereal, soups, kleenex or paper towels.
We have a stay at home order in our state and you would be amazed at the number of people in the store each day...sometimes the same people each day.
I am my dad's caregiver plus I have my own health issues so it is very stressful working there all day and wondering if I am going to get sick. I hand sanitize and wash my hands about every 15 minutes.
Some people are angry that we can't get the things they want but they don't understand that our warehouse can't get the items from the manufacturers. They just get mad at me. One person got mad because I didn't have any toilet paper that day and I just wanted to ask her if she had been listening to the news. Nobody has toilet paper.

I went into the office today, and stopped at Walmart Supercenter on my way back.
They had almost everything, even eggs, except toilet paper, flour and yeast. I went in for the flour and yeast because I got a good recipe for bread. Toilet paper I have but, since I'm working from home, I'm afraid of running out quick. The eggs I checked even though I don't need any because they were getting very scarce there.
I know I'm not going to starve, and I'm sure I'll somehow find toilet paper before I run out, but it stresses me so much to go to the store and not find every day items. Adds an extra layer of absurdity to the whole situation.

What is the name of the store there, please.

Tennesseer It’s Cordova International Food Market. It’s located on Germantown Pkwy. I have heard of it and have meant to go there looking for frozen Chinese dumplings. There was an Asian/Hispanic food store on the corner of Winchester and Riverdale (the old Kroger building) where I used to buy the dumplings. But they closed several years back. Thanks for the heads up.

Besides the normal stuff, I was amazed at all the ethnic items they carry, from various cultures around the world. You’re very welcome!

I know I'm not going to starve, and I'm sure I'll somehow find toilet paper before I run out, but it stresses me so much to go to the store and not find every day items. Adds an extra layer of absurdity to the whole situation. Sadly, another effect of the hoarding of toilet paper and hand sanitizer is that people who really need it are probably heading out to multiple stores every day trying to find it and that adds to the number of people who aren't "self-isolating". I was fortunate enough to find TP at Costco the week before last and grabbed it (ONE giant multi-pack). I didn't realize that I had only a few rolls left at home. I'd probably be one of the people driving around looking for it right now.

I ordered groceries from Whole Foods/amazon last night for the first time. Order should be delivered in afternoon. My local grocery chain has no pick up or delivery slots for the next 2 weeks Whole Foods prices were slightly higher or lower than the chain store and had a decent selection. Didn’t have any no sugar cookies or no sugar added pies. Not no sugar since the pies have sugar from fruit. Husband had type 2 diabetes for a while and taking oral meds, but he drastically changed his diet and has normal blood sugar now without any meds. Nice to have some treats once in a while

That there might be an Asian market here and there is somewhat unusual.

Some of the people in our town are upset to the point of being mean that outsiders are shopping in their stores buying all their stuff. They are also the ones who before this would shop out of town and not in their local stores.
I told them at work everyone has a right to shop where they want to and maybe their store doesn't have diapers, toilet paper, food. Everyone has to eat no matter where they get the food from.

Went to Kroger yesterday during the senior citizen shopping hour (0700-0800) and the fresh meat area was pretty barren. There were zero paper products (TP and towel). AND THERE WAS ZERO ROTEL! Seems like nothing was restocked overnight for the seniors. Do you have an Aldi near you? They have a version of Rotel that's really good, and around here, stocked. I think it's under $.50. I cook with it all the time.

I can enter it but not able to exit it in the same direction I entered. Therefore, I would have to drive a mile or two out of the way to get back in the direction I need to get home (if that all makes sense). What I did do is buy a can of diced tomatoes which contain green chilies. I can work with that. It's for cheese dip.

Has anyone been shopping during senior hours? I'm trying to decide whether it will be worth going at 6am. I wonder if it will be even more crowded than usual. So far our store is reasonably well stocked.
