We’ve had a run on large curd cottage cheese, the shelves were empty. I mean come on people, that’s one of life’s greatest treasures, I was forced to by small curd, oh the humanity!!!! I think that's more of a supply chain issue, and being more aware of these things now. The last few years have been very hit and miss for my family at Meijer with stockouts on our favorite products/brands. That's one reason why we would shop multiple times a week (until now).

That article I read recently about hair dye being the next panic buy wasn't joking. Most crowded aisle at Walmart and a lot of brands were completely wiped out, especially the blond products.

I buzzed through the FM hair dye section to checkout see if it is on sale. I pick up a couple if it is. I alternate between 2-3 colors, of a shade of dark blond. There was nothing in any of the 3 shades I use. I am ok for the next few months.

I usually schedule hair appointments a few months out. I had one scheduled April 8, which I missed because Safer at Home cancelled it. Safer at home has been extended to May26th, but the Republicans in WI are trying to cancel it. I have an appointment scheduled May 6th. I will wait and see if it might happen, otherwise I might need to color my hair at home. My hair was last Colored on March 11th. It was last Cut on February 11. I usually get it cut every other time I get it colored.

I got my dye from Ulta. I like this brand. More expensive than others but I'm really happy with it. I think I got the last box in light golden brown.

My DS said they were told their Walmart store would only be ordering and selling food and cleaning items deemed "essential". Essential seems like a really subjective term depending on one's personal needs. Then again, I've often wondered if we really need 100 different types of shampoo to choose from. We could have smaller stores if there wasn't three aisles of pet food... Supply chain weirdness seems like it may also make some things more expensive or harder to find as this drags on. I assume the price of meat will go up. I also think there's more people slowing stocking up right now because they keep hearing about opening things back up and took enough science classes in school to understand that means outbreaks and future chaos. There seems to be a lot of medical advancement happening around the virus. I like the idea of being prepared to hunker down and not leave home to shop for a few months if/when positive cases start showing up here.

Different states have different rules for what is essential.
My grocery store can sell more than food and cleaning items. So can Walmart and Target, etc. No rules against it here.

Talked to ODS tonight. He requested bacon, bagels, flour, pretzels, and tortillas. Orders placed.
Anyone else spending large portions of their day playing “hunter/gatherer”? Oy. Thank goodness I’m unemployed. I could never coordinate all of this online grocery shopping if I was working.

Thank goodness I’m unemployed. I could never coordinate all of this online grocery shopping if I was working. 2 weeks ago, I was like this, but now that my pantry and freezer are full, I have relaxed. I am now getting one order every 2 weeks - milk, yogurt, fruits & veggies only. But it's only my DH and I and we don't need too much. Last week I ordered some goodies for my son who is away at college and also to my niece and her 4 year old - just snacks and fun things that they will not buy for themselves. Now that I have so much food at home, I don't want to cook anymore - its so boring to plan

I haven't pulled the trigger on instacart yet. Between increased cost on the items, fees, plus tip I'm looking at over $30 to get what I want. I dunno. Plus the place I prefer to get produce from (local store who sources from local farmers) isn't on it.

Pretty much same grocery store and shopping. Almost anything we need available. Just going once every two weeks, instead of 2 or 3 times a week.

No, I REALLY want to choose what I want and get it all in one place. If it's not there (hand sanitizers- ha!) it' snot there. Occasionally I pick up something that looks good in Produce that wasn't on the list, but that's it. It still scares me. Someone on another Board I'm on (Early Retirement) has presumed COVID-19 and is recovering at home. They both work from home, she went grocery shopping once a week.

I'm only doing online ordering and pick up. I have not set foot in any indoor space besides my own home in over a month and I intend to keep it that way.
The ordering and pick up are no extra cost. So far, I've been lucky in getting what I ordered.
There was one week when I had to wait 8 days for pick up, but since then I've been able to pick up with 48 hours.
If I order this week, it will be towards the end of the week.
I'm taking as few chances as I possible. I have the option to stay out of stores, so I am. I hate Walmart and only went there to get prescriptions for my parents. No longer do that. I don't like to shop. I'm staying as safe as possible for the foreseeable future.
Found out Friday that one of the women I've chatted with about Paul McCartney online since the late 1990's died of COVID-19. She had a lot of health problems and was in a nursing home, but still....

I go once a week and get groceries. Pick up slots are impossible to get or too far out. What's the point of shopping from today's availability for an order that won't be ready until 5pm Friday? I would rather see what's available and pick from that.
I'm fortunate here the confirmed cases is less than 1% of my zip code's population. It's my 1 day a week to go out.

There are only 50 confirmed cases in a county of 50,000 and all of them are associated with one nursing home. 8 people died at the nursing home and several of them were not tested positive until after they died. We're just going to the stores as normal. I was always a get in and get out as fast as possible person before because I hate shopping in general, so not much has changed there. I haven't had trouble finding anything I need. There were a few weeks when the soup and canned goods aisle was decimated, and one really eerie weekend in Sam's Club where even the frozen/refrigerated area was empty, but that's been a while. It's all been pretty normal for the last 2 or 3 weeks or so.

I have a friend from high school (we are both 50) who's been in a nursing home for years due to a horrid case of MS. I really worry about him... I found out the other day that some old family friends both got COVID on one of the cruise ships and the husband now has permanent, severe lung damage from it and having been on a vent. I'm with you on taking as few chances as possible. Until some sort of treatment is available, I shop as infrequently as possible.

Thank you.
Except for the one week, I have not had problems with availability for pick up. I don't live in a city where delivery is possible. If it was, I'd pay for it.
So I will continue to do the grocery pick up and stay out of the stores.

I try to shop once every week or two and plan to stop when the crud gets into this area.

I would rather see what's available and pick from that. I'm fortunate here the confirmed cases is less than 1% of my zip code's population. It's my 1 day a week to go out. I've tried delivery as well and it's a bust, there haven't been slots for weeks. I did set up a Farmbox delivery for local produce, I don't care what either state says Farmer's Markets are NOT essential at least not how they've been around here. They've turned more into craft fairs than grocery shopping. I could see if IF they limit it to farmer's only which would space out the stalls but if they keep it as is no way am I going. Farmbox is local farmers so I get what I would out of a farmer's market and better produce than in the stores. Supposedly my county has only had 7-10 cases. I find that extremely hard to believe considering I could walk from my house to Omaha. Douglas county has over 100 cases. With the majority of people who live here working in Omaha there is no way we have that few a number of cases. I know they aren't testing here so probably there are quite a few walking around who have it and don't know it. But I can't let paranoia rule my life. I don't have the time to constantly refresh the websites to see if I can get a slot. I still work two jobs outside the house so really I'm not that much more at risk if I go grocery shopping once a month. This was the first time I went since March. Quite a difference in what was in stock vs the last time I did a major run. The paper aisles were still mostly bare but that is a massive improvement compared to before. The last time I was there I expected a walker to pop out from behind a shelf. You could totally have used it as a set for TWD.

I am online shopping, Krogers isn't bad, Sams is hard to find items and to update, not crazy about it. And Krogers I can go in and add or delete up to midnight of the night before pickup if I want. I like that. After 4 or so free pickups, they are going to start charging $4.95 but neither hubs or I object. They have to have people do that so that employee is diverted, so I think its fair. Only issue was no bananas at Sams and Krogers wanted $.35 for each banana, really? So I didn't get them.
I was worried about getting crummy veggies, but so far so good, nice and fresh. The broccoli from Sam's isn't the freshest, but I trimmed some stalks and its ok. I want to go out and about, but I just can't do it. Honestly, I'm afraid to catch the stuff. I told hubs don't get carried away either, he won't, he isn't afraid for him, its us that would get it.
I'm not sure when I will feel comfortable about going into businesses and shopping again, like I used to, will have to see a real downturn in cases before I am.

DH went to Walmart to drop a prescription off at the pharmacy. THEY HAD TOILET PAPER!!!! He got a 12 pack!
It's silly that such a small thing made my day.

Thank goodness I’m unemployed. I could never coordinate all of this online grocery shopping if I was working. I've been coordinating with 2 other households on the "hunting/gathering". There are plenty of stores close by - but it's hit or miss as to what you might find available or not. The coordinating keeps us all from visiting the same stores looking for the same things. It also sometimes keeps the most vulnerable household from even having to go out shopping. We're all mostly buying staples so not too intense on the "paying" for stuff for the other household (especially when it's $20 or less... ) I'm finding the local Aldi's have the basics/staples so that's were most of our day to day "food" is coming from - which is alot like "pre pandemic" shopping and eating. I made a run to Trader Joes with 3 shopping lists - and did 3 "orders" at check out. it worked well, and the check out person didn't miss a beat with my request for separate receipts/payments off the same CC. I'm guessing I wasn't the only one to do this. (And I wasn't trying to buy multiples of products that had limits - other than eggs. I had one carton per order. I didn't have any other "rationed" products). One of the households will be making a costco run next week with 3 lists... We've gotten good with the coordination - since we all kind of "menu plan" and the weekly flyers are so limited. Thank goodness for cell phones that can send pictures. A sent picture of a list or an image of a specific package/product makes this all easy peasy and pretty quick.

I go to Walmart or Publix once a week. I made an extra trip to Winn Dixie this week because I had started cooking something and was missing a key ingredient. I always ask my DIL if there is something they can't find. I think that's leveling off, but I have two bottles of tonic water in my trunk for her. She likes gin and tonic. Meanwhile, quinine is supposedly a "cure" of some sorts for covid? I didn't understand that part, but that is the explanation for the run on tonic water. I may not go this week. I honestly don't need anything. But it was my one excuse to get out. Still, I think I will pass.

I can totally see where it makes total sense that the tiny amount of quinine in Tonic water would totally protect you from Covid19 or maybe even cure it. I'm losing faith in humanity again.... Tonic water (or Indian tonic water) is a carbonated soft drink in which quinine is dissolved. Originally used as a prophylactic against malaria, tonic water usually now has a significantly lower quinine content and is consumed for its distinctive bitter flavor, though it is nowadays also often sweetened.

Last week it was salt and brown sugar. Brown sugar wasn't too much of a problem, but I ordered salt from 2 places, because the first was delayed. I now have, almost 5 lbs of salt. This week I am still trying to get rice and san marzano tomatoes. I have had several orders of each not work out, either through pick up or online shipping. I have a grocery order for pick up tomorrow, who knows what will and will not be in it. Maybe rice.

No idea how strict they're being as I didn't try, but two wks ago they had signs everywhere and people yelling about the limits.

I went to Walmart Supercenter today.
Let's say it wasn't a good experience. It is now mandatory to wear a face covering in CT. Actually, it becomes mandatory Monday at 8 pm. I've been wearing a mask when I go to the store. I don't know if anyone else feels the same way, but I am so uncomfortable with it. My nose itches, I have difficulty breathing. I realize it's partly psychological, I just can't stand it. It adds an extra layer to all the discomfort and weirdness we are living.
Walmart has now limits on the number of people they admit at one time. There was a long line outside, but the weather was sunny and warm, and the line moved quickly. I noticed several customer waiting in pairs, or in groups of three and even four. Some families brought children with them. I don't think the young kids were let inside the store. I saw a couple of older kids inside, around 12 years old or so. They were obviously letting the two or three people groups enter together, although the governor had said about a week ago only one person per household. Those that were shopping in group were a problem because they would stand in the aisles, sometimes blocking passage, or waiting for one another and I had to say excuse me and go around them.
I was at the store at around 3 pm and I was surprised by the lack of inventory. Even the produce section was decimated. I didn't believe there would be food shortages until today, but now I realize it is a possibility. There was no toilet paper, no flour and no yeast. Lunch meats and cheese were scarce. I couldn't find any mozzarella cheese for the pizza I am going to cook.
Lots of people on the aisles, most were not keeping any distance. It was really chaotic and not well organized inside the store. I feel really bad for the employees. I have the option to avoid the store until this is over, they don't.
