Let's leave Trump out of this discussion, please. There is a place in which to discuss political ramifications - the Politics board or Current Events. Those who will not maintain personal distancing are simply "those who will not take the pandemic seriously". Their political stances are not the problem. They are the problem. Pandemics have no political boundaries. Hopefully, people are beginning to wake up to the real danger. mmhmm, Administrator When they say they are doing it to 'stick it to the liberals' - I am pretty sure their political affiliation matters a great deal. Trump has consistently sought to divide and inflame these types of issues, and he continues to do so now. His words matter. Yes, it probably does. However, this board is not the place for political discussion and a number of the posters here don't want it to become so. The place for such discussions is the Politics board.

Some of us cannot reach them. I haven’t been able to reach my feet since my infection. If I want my toenails cut, I get a pedicure.....so it’s a necessity for me. I got one the week we shut down, not sure what I’ll do if the salon is still closed in 3-4 weeks. my nana used to have her toenails cut by the podiatrist. is it worth looking into a referral for the duration of the shutdown? I will have TD trim my nails before going into ANY doctor’s office these days. LOL.....not looking to pay $200 for a doctor to trim my toenails.

Dad's co-pay was $35. My sister tried to trim the nails but they were so thick she couldn't do it. There really wasn't a choice with his.
Before mom died, they trimmed each other's nails.

My MIL's were horrible the podiatrist has to work and work, they were so long they had grown sideways, we thought he was seeing her and found a lot of times she would not. So we make sure. I need to have someone check and make sure they are getting cut over there.
I have trouble with mine. On my left foot the neuropathy is worse in the 4 toes and its actually painful to try and trim them. I dread it when I have to.

I have absolutely NO intention on going out to get my toenails trimmed, nor having someone come to my home at this point. That ole ‘social distancing thing’ thing, yanno? I don’t go out unnecessarily, nor do we have people in.

DH just talked to his mom. She is a senior living facility (not assisted living). A couple of weeks ago they stopped allowing visitors. And stopped the restaurant service. They can get all the menu delivered to their room. DH asked about the bar being closed. His Mom says they can still order cocktails and have them delivered to their rooms .

The facility where my dad lived had independent living on one floor and assisted living on a different floor.
There is no mingling between the residents of the two floors.
Dining for those in assisted living is in their apartment. No eating in the dining room.
They did get creative on playing bingo in assisted living. The residents sat in their entry ways and a microphone was used to call the numbers. At least they are getting to do something.
No residents on either floor are allowed to leave the building except for medical care.
My sister said she would have moved dad in with her and that she knows of several families who have done that.

It's independent living, so I'm pretty sure residents can come and go as they like. Social distance is encouraged and stuff like movies have been cancelled. Last I heard the pool was still open.

One of my clients is in the independent living wing of a senior community. The communal dining room has been closed. Meals are brought to the individual apartments. They are allowed to be outside for an hour a day. They cannot go off-premises, or they will not be allowed back in. Groceries and other supplies have to be delivered to the front desk area.

I am less sure than you are. I asked my DIL about her grandmother (my ex's mom) who lives in a facility with different levels. She is in a senior living apartment. She's pretty much confined to her room 24/7. I told her to be sure someone calls her every day: she can split it up with her brother. I personally think they should bring her home if she wants to come. Her house is empty and across the road from my ex's. The problem is that she and my ex's wife never bonded. With mild dementia, she became convinced ex's wife was stealing from her. Oh, and trying to kill her. She was the mother I wished I had while I was married to my ex (25 years). Twenty years later she still tells my daughter that she doesn't blame me; sometimes marriages just don't work. I'd get her out of the nursing home facility if I were them.

They are not allowed visitors.

I do know she was allowed to walk outside and her son (my BIL) was allowed to see her if he stayed 6 ft away.

I found this on a friend's FB page today "dropped off some soda to our sick neighbor, and came home after
I got cake mixes at the local mini mart, and got straw for beds at the Feed Store . I bought more seeds."
The problem is he posted on March 29 "Sorry to inform you but ------- is now in Quarantine. He’s been exposed .
Please pray your hearts out ." That's his husband. With whom he lives. IF his DH really was exposed, and IF he really was required to quarantine, then this sort of running around the community should not be happening IMHO.
It's Covidiots like this that will further the spread.

Anyone else notice how clean the air is? It is freaking amazing. I never thought too much about pollution. I guess I am just use to it? I thought that is what air is like? But, oh....my....god, taking a breath outside is so different now. The sky is a different color. Beautiful!

We can usually hear some traffic - loud cars, honking, etc. Not constant, but enough to remind us that there are indeed people out and about. Usually I can consistently hear the train horn, but not now.

And quiet, very few airplanes I live in Memphis and i can watch the FedEx jets departing Memphis during the afternoons. Fortunately, they are never over head. Pre-virus days and during the daytime, I can watch all the planes at 30,000-35,000 plus feet up flying over Memphis. Atlanta as a destination is easy to spot based upon the direction the craft is heading. Planes coming from the direction (SSE) are usually coming from Florida and once they are roughly overhead Memphis, they bank usually west or WNW. Sitting outside this sunny afternoon, I only saw only one plane heading probably toward Atlanta. Compared to January and February, a/c traffic is way down.

I took my pup for a walk around 4:30 today. Part of our route was ¾ mile along a road that gets heavy traffic, especially after 3 when the schools let out and as Rush Hour brings commuters home. My pup hates that road even though there is a wide stretch of grass between the sidewalk and the road. I usually have to coax him the whole stretch. Today we truthfully could have meandered down the center yellow line. It was beyond frighteningly quiet. Oy.

Nope, not here...

NJ just announced school lessons for grades 3-6 will be on public tv stations starting next week. That helps kids at home who don’t have Internet access or computers Berkeley CA isn’t going to give online classes to any of their school kids - why? Because the officials think there is bias because some kids don’t have Internet or require aids because if disabilities. So injure the majority rather than be creative to help minority. PC gone bad

The schools are closed and some stores, but all the manufacturing is going.

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and it would require a legal intervention to change, even temporarily.

I think public TV stations is a good idea for lectures. Lectures aren't all that's required for education though. But it is something.
I'm for Masterclass like public TV lectures actually... lets Neil deGrasse Tyson and Bill Nye teach science for the next month... etc.

But thought it is ironic that liberal Berkeley is failing most of their school kids. It’s about not thinking out of the box, it’s about being paralyzed by legal constraints. So change!

The federal legal standard ? Me change it... ? Please outline the steps?
The reality is that many people do lack access to internet and resources. There are many districts attempting to solve these problems and some do have creative alternatives... its easier in some places due to geography and infrastructure. In all ways people are doing what they can within the framework that exists. Its all crisis education at this point.
Its very easy to sit on a rooftop and bitch about what other people are doing, throwing around terms like bias and pc... when you have no real knowledge of the actual situation.

Just gave one example that would address at least some problems with kids in low income households that don’t have computer or internet - public tv - think most even low income have tv Yes this is federal but why are most school districts going ahead? Including NYC with 1.1 million kids and large numbers of low income, Special needs kids. But not Berkeley???
