Thanks, TheOtherMe . Yes, I prepare my own using TurboTax Business. I don't mind paying for it because it is convenient, carries much of our info over from the prior year, walks one through each section in great detail, and has an informative help option when needed. Plus, I figure I used to pay a CPA in the past to do them, so it's basically a wash. I also keep track of every penny I spend both personally and for business in an Excel spreadsheet. Receipts and invoices are placed into hanging files by category throughout the year. When it's tax time, they are pulled from the file, tallied up, then paper clipped/binder clipped to store for the required amount of years. Most of the time the paper receipts equal the spreadsheet fields, so it's easy to cross check my work. When I worked at the church, I had a Schedule C, so I used TurboTax Business. I also entered the data for my ex into the software back then to check his numbers. He still mails in his tax returns and does them by hand. He doesn't trust the security and he is also retired from the IRS. He was very upset when his city in Colorado required his sales tax returns to be filed online. If I remember correctly, the state of Colorado requires that now also?

There were about 7000 when I started. That's why it took several hours. If I had it to do over again, I would have gone to the oldest first. I didn't know how I'd figure out where I had left off once I got going. When i'm cleaning up email I sort them by who sent them. There are certain senders I know it's safe to delete everything from. It gets rid of a lot quickly.

In my adult life, I've never remembered mailing them. I went from tele-file as a youngster to a CPA to Turbo.

All the CPA firms where I had worked filed everything online. He just doesn't like to do it. I think he said Lakewood and Jeffco now require sales tax to be filed online. I know that the CPA firms I worked for filed all the state sales tax returns online.

Yuck. While I agree online is the choice of many these days, it is nice to have the choice. Plus, as you mention, not everyone trusts computers/online security. I have several clients who don't, and it is my pleasure to help them with snail mailing their payments, or processing payments online for them.

Colorado SUTA returns were required to be filed online using a Windows computer. If you entered the wages correctly, it did all the calculations.
Since the boutique where I worked used Macs, I had to file those from home.
I'm hoping the returns can now be filed on either a Windows or Apple computer.

We finally received DS3's graduation date! (We knew the week but not the exact date.) So I decluttered 2 of the 5 hotel nights I had reserved. I purposely booked a hotel with free cancellation. I also made DH go through the pharmacy shelf in the kitchen. That freed up a lot of room. We keep that shelf for first-aid stuff/vitamins/daily meds.

Every morning, I get to declutter a pile of poo off the carpet. Poor kitty. She's 11--so "geriatric" by cat standards but not "old" per se--and seems to always sleep until it's too much for her to make it to the litter box. Thankfully, it's not pee and there's Resolve carpet cleaner spray in the world.
I've gotten almost all the books taken to Half Price Books. I have two boxes left. I rearranged the still-packed stuff in my living room into a configuration that I can live with for the duration of living in this apartment. I choose to not fully unpack until I sell the DE house and buy a house here.
Put in the paperwork for new license plates so now I'm driving around with a temp tag. My new plates will say "Air Force Veteran" so I'm kinda stoked about that.
I got tired of waiting to hear from Talbots, so I put an application in at one of the WHBM stores here. I stopped in yesterday and introduced myself to the store manager, telling her how awesome I am and that she *needs* me on the team. Seriously. I'm a great worker bee. I'm 99% sure the application is just a formality.

I did a few errands today and paid the last of the monthly bills as well. Had an early service call this morning so I had to get moving earlier than normal on a Saturday. Needed to get dress before he showed up and now I think a nap is in order.

Hey everyone! I am still bouncing around this month trying to avoid being home because we have had so many showings in the last 10 days. No offers yet but hoping that buyers will see that there's not much on the market right now and if they wait they'll have more competition from other offers.
This coming week I'll be staying with my parent's dogs while they attend a funeral out of town and I have so much client work to do that'll keep me busy. I am also trying to get new clients so that I can afford to put in an offer on the new house I want before mine sells. If all goes well with that agreement I'll be visiting the new home next month and getting some quotes lined up for the work it needs right away.
Living out of a suitcase is getting boring but I have 20 bags of fabric to work on, plus about 25 burp rags to sew this week.

Today was a busy day and I got a lot done at both my place and Mom's. My place Updated YNAB
Changed the sheets on the bed Clean the bathrooms and litter box 3 loads of laundry Sold 80 more albums. There are just a few left that he didn't want. I also have all my old 45's as he didn't want those either Returned my cans/bottles Mom's Changed the sheets on her bed Mowed her lawn Did two loads of laundry there and brought a third load home to do here tomorrow Went to the drug store and bought her some more Tylenol I'm not sure if I had posted this here but I am going to be getting new siding on my house and new windows. Both need to be replaced but it is going to add a lot of work to my already busy schedule. I need to trim all the bushes back from the house and all the blinds/drapes will need to be taken down and all furniture in front of the windows will need to be moved. Then when they are all done I will have to paint the house.

Fingers crossed for the sale and purchase startsmart ! Wow Sharon that is a lot of work! Good luck! Can someone help you with some of the painting? I go back to work tomorrow. There's lots of marking coming up. I also need to learn my lines, I've been putting that off. The RE agent said he thinks the guy will up his offer. If we get 5K more we may accept even though it's still a loss. Sunday
- DH's Quickbooks - Shitepile - DH's Shitepile
- DH magazine pile
I made DH go through his pile of newspapers/magazines in our bathroom. He got rid of 90%, so that's progress.

Knee Deep in Water Chloe , I remember you also sold at a loss, but I don't remember the numbers. Would you mind reminding me? You can PM me if you prefer. I would really appreciate it, it would help put things into perspective. Let's see. Purchase price: $260K in Nov 2006 Lived in it from Nov 2006 - May 2010 Rented it out at 2/3 of the cost of mortgage, insurance, taxes June 2010 - December 2016 Prepped to sell Jan - March 2017 Sold April 2017 for $226K
(this is why selling at a loss wasn't as big of a deal to me as it may be to you--I was losing money regardless)

One more question, if you don't mind ... how much was the mortgage when you finally sold it? Did you have to bring money to the table?
Our building has no governing body (which is illegal here), and therefore the building can't be insured. Now that the tenant is gone, I do NOT want to rent it out again.
Ironically, the potential buyer is a lawyer. He could get things straightened out without, um, having to pay a lawyer. My real issue is the fact that the building isn't insured (and can't be without a governing body). Most of the other owners live there themselves, so they're not (as) worrried about liability.

I cannot fathom not attending my child's graduation! So if they have vacation planned, no one else in the family will attend?

OMG debthaven, that's horrible! I mean, who does that to their daughter? (Actually, I knew a family who favored their sons over their daughter--is it one of THOSE families, where the daughter's accomplishments mean nothing compared to the boys?) Still going through paperwork. I know, how exciting... I've gotten caught up on the laundry this weekend, too.

I got a bunch of shredding done. I'm slowly getting the office end of the kitchen organized.
My mother missed my undergraduate college graduation. For some reason she brought her husband with her. He was driving. He got pissed off about some credit card bill mid trip and turned around and drove home. It's a 2 hour trip so she didn't have time to drive back alone.
It has affected both relationships.
I didn't attend for my master's. I would have had to walk in spring graduation but I wasn't actually graduating until August. There's no summer graduation ceremony. My masters program was set up as two semesters and a summer session. I didn't see a point of walking if I wasn't getting my diploma. Plus my grandfather had just passed away the month before spring graduation and he saw me graduate from high school and undergrad. I couldn't face walking a month later knowing he wouldn't be in the audience.

Not sure what I missed, but it sounds like you are doing a wonderful thing including T. This weekend was productive, and it actually seemed long for once. Perhaps it's because we kept the TV off during the day? Saturday I prepared most of our taxes. Just a few more things to input. Yesterday: 3 loads laundry (DH did 3 while I was doing taxes Sat), including the kitchen area rugs. Nasty.
Swept the kitchen floor, still need to Swiffer
Scrubbed 2 toilets Skimmed through 2 newspapers, 1.5 magazines, then read several chapters of a book. Yep, an actual book. I plan to make this a habit! Prepped lunch food and boiled eggs Made tea for the week Refilled ice trays Emptied, refilled and started the dishwasher Hand washed pots, pans, steak knives, etc.
Planned suppers for the week Organized 2 pantry shelves then
Added more to the rolling grocery list Cleared off and wiped down the main kitchen counter Put fresh towels out, restocked TP
Have a wonderful week, everyone!

I have been busy the last couple of days. On Sunday I finished Mom and my laundry and did a grocery run for both of us. I also decided to toss all my cassettes and the 45's. Those are in the garbage waiting for pickup tomorrow. I also went through my Grandma's sewing basket. I want to keep the basket but tossed a lot of the old notions etc. A lamp that has been hanging around has gone up for sale on FB, so far I haven't had good luck selling anything through there but fingers crossed anyway. My out of the house total is going up so that is good

Sharon, I've had on/off luck with selling things on FB. A rice cooker years ago sold. Everything else has been given away: A set of gently used pots and pans and an inexpensive bar accessory set, for instance. Speaking of going though things, I just had lunch with a friend who does home care. One of her new clients hired her to help go through her belongings. I am thankful to have started this journey a few years ago, so as to not fuss with it at an advanced age.

Important things are happening on Friday and I need to keep all my fingers and toes crossed until then! I can't say much but will likely be a ball of anxiety until I hear that things are good.
In the meantime, I'm working away with new clients this week and frantically finishing bags of fabric to keep my hands busy.

I got laundry washed, dried, and put away yesterday. Also took the last of the books I don't want to Half Price Books. Took some DVDs, too. They take all kinds of stuff. It's awesome!
Today, I'm meeting with the Director of INVets, a veteran-focused employment resource, to share with him the non-profit that I'm part of and how we can help each other.

I have been spending so much time at Mom's and when I see all the crap she has packed into that house it is motivation to come home and go through stuff. Mom has at least 3 full closets full of clothes and has perhaps started on the 4th. She did take a small garbage bag of clothes not to long ago for donation but I wouldn't even call it a drop in the bucket compared to what she has. I was in Sis's old bedroom recently and noticed this roll away craft cart that she got for Christmas a few years ago. I was surprised that it was still around since it wasn't very sturdy to begin with. It was full of coffee mugs. Yep all those coffee mugs that are stored up in a bedroom are getting used regularly. Tonight I came home and spent less than 10 minutes in the garage and got rid of 12 more things.
