I know I have been missing for a while. Mom had her hip replacement surgery, which has gone well. She spent not quite two weeks in a transitional care facility. She came home last Thursday. All of this has meant daily trips to the hospital and care facility. I also did all her personal laundry while she was in the care facility. Since she has been home things have really ramped up. She is in her bedroom and so far is refusing to attempt the steps to get back down into the main part of the house. Which means she has no real access to food. She has some fruit cups, applesauce, cookies etc up in her bedroom but nothing that would be considered a meal. My niece has been staying with her during the week days, somewhat against Mom's protests. She gets her breakfast and lunch. This weekend it was 3 trips over there on Saturday (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Sunday was two trips, my sis took care of dinner. Today I called out from work and have been resting and doing some things I want to do. One of the things I did today was take some of my old albums down to the used record store. They bought about 50 of them, so they are gone out of the house. I currently don't have a way to play them and probably wouldn't for some time. After spending so much time at Mom's house and seeing the ton of crap she has everywhere it is motivation to get things gone. I have more albums but it was overwhelming to me to think of loading all of them into the car so decided to deal with what I could. Anything out the door is better than nothing.

I've decided I want to get a bed for the spare room, which is basically a toy room at the moment. It looks like a toy store blew up in there. So I need to organize, trash, donate some stuff so that a bed could even fit in there. I've got a plan of attack but need time without the younger child to actually get started. My mom had him last night, but that is when I came up with all this in my head, so nothing has actually been done yet. They have so much stuff. I put about a dozen or so things in a garbage bag about a month ago and put it in a closet to see if they would notice. They haven't missed any of it yet.

I thought I'd give quick mid-week update: I've listed my weekly work-life declutter list for the week of Feb 17-22
For the class I am developing
Finish writing the quiz Write instructions for the presentation assignment Finish 2 of the 7 lectures -- finished 1 lecture Build the Code of Ethics content / Assignment instructions
Other work stuff
Create the presentation for a talk I am giving at a conference Prepare materials for upcoming faculty meeting Tackle another section of my filing cabinet
I'm had to take care of work-related items that relate to my primary job responsibilities rather than the "clutter" that is extra and so the items listed above were placed on the back burner. I will make the presentation for the conference my priority. Happy Wednesday!

Well I have finalized and locked in a start date with my Contractor. Things get taken out Friday March 6 and I paint that weekend and they start installing first thing the following Monday.

Last night I decluttered about 2000 emails, going back to 2012. I must comment about how awesome this is, TheOtherMe. Of all tasks, this one rates as one of my least favorite. Well done!

You've all made such great progress! snapdragon I'm so sorry about your Dad, and in awe at how much you are managing to do while being so attentive to him. Same for you Sharon in regards to your Mom. I'm glad her surgery went well and hope things get a bit easier for you. We had a lovely short break in Normandy. We did a LOT of walking. Seeing the ocean is so healing for me.
We got a very low offer on the studio. The building has SO many issues, it's not a surprise. But we can't afford to accept that offer, so we're hoping they go up. The potential buyer is a lawyer, which is basically the only profession who could force the other owners to get things back on track. DH is willing to take a loss, but not such a big one.
I would have countered but DH (who is better at this/more patient) wouldn't let me. He said, that offer is so low we don't need to counter. If the buyer is really interested, he'll come back with a better offer. I know DH is right.
Knee Deep in Water Chloe , I remember you also sold at a loss, but I don't remember the numbers. Would you mind reminding me? You can PM me if you prefer. I would really appreciate it, it would help put things into perspective.

I was asked by my brother to take him to a memorial for a old girlfriend of his that passed. And since that was going to occur maybe we could swing by the shoe store and than grab something to eat... I have just felt so tired and foggy that I said yes. I was really not looking forward to this and I want sleep like no tomorrow but I was going to do it.
He called while I was at lunch and luckily he was called in to work and I don't have to attempt to be pleasant or have to deal with driving him back home in Seattle than driving out to Dad's place and getting there rather late. So I am really relieved that he got the option for overtime.

Take care of yourself Snapdragon. It was very kind of you to agree and I'm relieved you don't have to do it. But maybe be more vocal about what you can and can't do going forward? You certainly have your hands full already.
My friend/colleague is leaving on maternity leave. The school asked if we wanted her any of her staff classes. I know from her that they are impossible to schedule, "it's like herding cats" (her words).
I took her only group of 2 because I didn't want to be rounding up her two groups of 4. I know they only do a lesson a month. But that's better than nothing, and it's easier to herd 2 cats than 4 cats LOL.

DH and I went to the bottle bank on the way to Normandy. Tonight we finished the last bottle of olive oil we bought before getting our annual delivery. We order 10 liters of olive oil every year from a Greek friend who imports it in bulk for friends, from "her" island.
I just refilled that bottle for our cleaner who comes tomorrow. I wish I had thought of doing that years ago. Because who doesn't love olive oil?!
So I'm decluttering a bottle without going to the bottle bank. ;-) ETA: About our cleaner raising her prices ... EVERY SINGLE CLIENT BUT ONE said yes immediately, not just us! One said no, she dumped that client (but found a replacement), because she was working 6.5 days a week. She explained that she was really looking for an excuse to cut back, so she could go down to 6 days. The woman changed her mind a week later but our cleaner held firm. I'm very happy for her. She also rearrranged her schedule, so now she's working "only" 5.5 days/week (and hoping to eventually get down to 5 days).
I'm so so glad we said yes to her. <3

Lucy is home from getting her teeth cleaned. I had to put her in the carrier at the vet's office because she wouldn't stop hissing and growling at them. Drama queen.
Now she is ravenous. They told me to go easy on the food tonight because her stomach might be upset from the anesthesia and the half hour car ride. I gave her a little bit of food and she scarfed it right down. Hoping it stays down.

Hope Lucie is feeling better now TheO. We took DD for her gum surgery, brought her here for the afternoon, then took her home (with my homemade soup). We also took the rabbit for a checkup ... his ears are finally getting better, but they're still not right. So ANOTHER two weeks of antibiotics. Now we also have to take him to the vet once a week for them to deep-clean his ears.

I had my house deep cleaned 2 weeks ago and it’s still looking good (helps to be gone most of the time!) and the backyard grass is slowly coming in. I am also completing the fabric packs, right now I have 23 more to do and I am trying so hard not to purchase any new fabric until those are done.
Trying to declutter some furniture and cannot get people to reply to messages. It’s infuriating.

Lucy is doing great today. I feel like the mother of a newborn as she woke me up about every 2 hours all night for food.
So she ate a can of food overnight and another can today. I gave her another can about an hour ago. No more until morning.
She seems to be back to herself.

Hi Kids! DH was off from work today, so we've continued to go through our boxes, and found a couple with old paperwork. Most of it can be shredded, and we've already filled 2 large garbage bags with shredded paperwork. We even got one of them out to the garbage before the truck showed up today.

There were about 7000 when I started. That's why it took several hours.
If I had it to do over again, I would have gone to the oldest first. I didn't know how I'd figure out where I had left off once I got going.

I didn't know how I'd figure out where I had left off once I got going. When I have time and have focus enough to tackle this project, that is what I do, too-sort the messages so the oldest one is on top. At the advice of a very organized friend of mine, I also try and do that with my paper in box. Have a fantastic weekend, everyone. Doing our taxes tomorrow. I'm a numbers nerd, and went to college for bookkeeping, so I'm actually looking forward to it.

Good luck with the taxes. Do you prepare your own business returns?
I'm an anal accountant. Always have been. I don't mind preparing my tax return. I keep a spreadsheet all year of anything that will go on it, so it's very easy to follow the spreadsheet and highlight what I have entered. It's even easier now that I can't itemize.
I do have to keep track of health insurance premiums and enter those because they are deductible on my state return.
When all of my bills were paper, I filed by month. The January folder would end up in the back of the drawer by year's end. Now my paperwork is mostly online, so I keep folders online by month.
The financial spreadsheets and folders are the ones I back up to an external hard drive and Dropbox frequently.
In her later years, mom always paid her bills the day the bill arrived. That isn't the way it was when we were kids because there wasn't any extra money and I imagine they juggled bills a lot.
I set up online payments for online bills that day the bill is available. I also set up the online payment for bills that arrive in the mail the day the bill arrives. Since I've been able to do that, I have not missed a payment.
I charged Lucy's dental for the cash back. It was on the credit card this morning, so I paid it. The vet doesn't give discounts for cash, so I will take the cash back for myself.

Thanks, TheOtherMe. Yes, I prepare my own using TurboTax Business. I don't mind paying for it because it is convenient, carries much of our info over from the prior year, walks one through each section in great detail, and has an informative help option when needed. Plus, I figure I used to pay a CPA in the past to do them, so it's basically a wash. I also keep track of every penny I spend both personally and for business in an Excel spreadsheet. Receipts and invoices are placed into hanging files by category throughout the year. When it's tax time, they are pulled from the file, tallied up, then paper clipped/binder clipped to store for the required amount of years. Most of the time the paper receipts equal the spreadsheet fields, so it's easy to cross check my work.

I was inspired by TheOtherMe . Did some Email Folder purging. It's my go to chore when I can't sleep at night. I clean up my emails and my photos on my iphone. It's tedious and repetitive and usually does the trick.

I figured I would check in while waiting for the laundry to finish. Two loads today -- currently 1 in dryer and 1 in washer. All of my commitments for this week are done. House is in pretty good shape and the routine changes I made earlier this month have been instrumental in that maintenance. I ran a few errands this morning and have a few I may do later today.
I don't want to do much running around in the next few days as this is a crazy time of the year in my area. Between people going to the parades and the builders moving floats into place and blocking some roads while doing so getting around certain areas of town requires almost strategic planning. I am fortunate in that I am not in the middle of all the chaos and can usually avoid the bad traffic areas when I am running around but if I don't have to go out I won't. I do have things I can do at home and in the immediate area while all of that is going on.
Also all of my classes next week are cancelled and most of the schools are closed as well so I will be free of those commitments. No classes and no tutoring and no meetings.
Need to check on laundry so will sign off now.
