That's why there is so much anger, but they don't understand that the very party they are kissing up to is the one stepping on their collective necks. These folks are totally brain washed and in dire straits.
If this keeps up that anger will eventually boil over, the only thing that is stopping them is there is still the help of Medicaid, food stamps, and some other programs. trump is hacking away at them. And if they cut them all, for some strange reason they will be mad at the dems. Maybe they are to dumb to understand or maybe they are just brainstormed. As it gets worse I think you will start to see the kinds of violent protests we are seeing in other countries.

To me Hillary is a career politician who comes off like a robot. When she tried to relate to people it usually fell flat like the 'my abuela' thing and made her seem even less genuine. Had she not ignored middle America I think she could have won but that assumes she could find some way to come off as believable, likable or at least tolerable to those voters. Like Miss T Obama is someone I'd gladly have a beer with and he's a likable guy which I think helped him in 2008. I'd even grab a beer with Bush but I don't think him or Obama were great presidents. to go against your reasoning...she received over 3 million more votes then Trump...{which is not a minor thing} so she was the most popular candidate...and for a career politician, not to shabby Problem we have as we all know...she didn't have those votes in the right places....

There are still other, more viable places to cut waste than SS. Yes, there is...military! Make them all change to one bookkeeping system and ACCOUNT for every $ spent. That would freak out a lot of them! Imagine that for welfare.

We don't need to cut SS, just welfare. Not only will there be a whole lot more $$ for the military, recruitment goals will be easier to make also, because there will be less sitting on the dole collecting those $$, for doing nothing. Quote; In 2011, the latest year for which we have complete spending data, federal outlays on all means-tested welfare programs targeted for the poor hit $746 billion, according to an analysis by the Congressional Research Service.
But this doesn't include two of the fastest-growing taxpayer-funded cash subsidies: unemployment insurance and disability, which are not based on one's income level, so are not considered anti-poverty programs. That's another $250 billion a year. All told, federal income transfer programs (not including Social Security and Medicare) have hit $1 trillion.www.heritage.org/welfare/commentary/welfare-america-1-trillion-tab-and-risingSafety net programs account for less than 10% of the federal budget. If you cut all of it, we would still be in deficit, and now we would have more problems with crime, homelessness and other poverty related problems. Wasn't just safety net programs.

One of the synonyms of smart (er) is more educated. It's a fooler when publishing that kind of stuff. Most will consider smarter the same as an IQ, not so. if all he said was "white people are smarter", there is a good chance he would still be working at Heritage. True. I always am always suspect of an article/study when they use the term 'smarter'. Too broad a term. As in, I would be less smarter, if I didn't mention that the reason you veered into the smarter subject, was to deflect from my original point that SS isn't the only program that can be cut, in post #186.

This is why we do not need to cut welfare programs and make the very rich pay to help support our country. On Bloomberg yesterday, 40% of the working people in the 18 to 64 old age group are low wage earners. That is why there is so much welfare needed. This is not sustainable for them or the country. Likely many don't or can't pay taxes and need help. So the debt is going to rise higher and higher. You cannot have the small group with all the money, pay little or nothing. They need to pay in the proportion they are keeping and "earning" all the money. after 40 years of battling unions, the GOP can declare victory.
and the result? we no longer have a thriving middle class.
Unions priced themselves out of the free trade global market. That subject is far more involved than who's the current administration. It's been going on since the 1970's.

We aren't discussing who won the Presidency. We are discussing who is more popular. We literally took a vote asking people who they would rather have a President, and Hillary won. Doesn't mean she is President. It just means that she got more votes. Not the right kind of votes (electoral college) and not votes in the right places. But, the definitely more votes.

(First question) No, you said the popular vote was a minor thing. It's not a minor thing in a presidential election, it's a nothing thing. I said nothing about legitimacy.

What besides her fictional crimes was polarizing about her. She had moderate views on taxes and healthcare. She was pro-business. She wanted to work on immigration reform, but didn't want to have open borders. She didn't tout free tuition, student loan forgiveness or government funded child care. I'm not sure what she said that was so polarizing. I will grant she was annoying, but her policies were definitely not extreme. Trump is polarizing because his positions are extreme and he is a dick. I will give you that Trump is a dick and that is a large part of why he is so polarizing. People don't like Trump. But people also don't like Hillary. I have my reasons for not liking her as a person and other people have their reasons for either loving or really disliking her (there seems to be no in-between with her). But to be clear, I would have voted for her if her policies and vision aligned with mine. I don't vote on personality. I have said this before but if I had to have drinks and hang out with either Obama or Trump, I'm totally picking Obama. But I would never in a million years vote for him. But that is me. There are plenty of people who can't overlook the fact that they just don't like someone and can't vote for them. And that is why I say she would have won if more people actually liked her. Just like I think a large part of why Obama won the first time is because he was young and very likable as a person. You keep pretending that more people voted for the sex assaulter. In fact nearly THREE MILLION MORE voters chose Hillary over him. Whether they liked her or not, they voted for her.

I see Bloomberg entered the race. So we could have a presidential race between two NYC billionaires who don't give a crap about the average person. Lovely. Not sure if this is true for either person. Bloomberg is well known for his donations to worthy causes. Trump is putting the average peron back to work. The first President since FDR to do so, and not put them on the Federal payroll building parks across the country like FDR.

How much when you were 21? Check your husband's numbers too. I imagine most of the 40% low wage earners is mostly in the 18 to 30 yr age grouping. A better stat would be age 30 to 64, and even then it is slanted to the older group as they are in their peak earnings years for the most part. My "peak years" were from age 40 to 65 with regular increases until about 60. I was home out of the service at 22 but did make a "liveable wage" until about 25. 2008 to 2011 were hard years to increase my salary during the recession. after 2011, wage continued to increase until I retired in late 2014.

More than likly, there is no way I can/will vote for a liberal or socialist neither will any one I know except for one that has a large student loan dept that wants it forgiven. As for taxes I can not see any of the current liberals not raising taxes on the middle class to raise money for they stupid causes

Do you think those Trump tax cuts were a “stupid cause”?

Keeping taxes down for the wealthy is getting us nowhere. I think the goal is create such a deficit that they can't pay SS or medicare or any social programs. If they drop those, people will die and we will be a 3rd world country. But the very rich will not care, they can hire people for pennies and continue their lifestyle. I really think that is their goal.

THAT'S a socialist. I'll wait.

I have worked from the age of 13. I got both my b.s. And me while on active duty. I have Earned what I have. I resent any one trying to take anything I have Earned money, guns time of day and give it to a lazy sob. I do not want to be taxed for any thing other than the military, law enforcement. No for stamps Medicare for all of any thing else. Any one that believes in redistribution of wealth is a socialist

Then please stop driving on our roads and using any of our infrastructure. But I AM glad my tax dollars paid for your degrees. You appear very well educated.
Of course with wages not keeping pace with productivity gains for 40 years I’m sure you can explain the redistribution of wealth that has caused. Go ahead and give it a shot.

Agreed. She has also been polarizing because she does not want to act feminine and her skills are elsewhere. Some wanted to take that as she disapproved of other woman's choices, but I think that was projecting. Also, it seems many of th e male conservative posters prefer looks over qualifications when it comes to female politicians. I'm not going to get into what makes her so polarizing. It seems some on the left will only see it as sexism and nothing more. It is a waste of time to continue to debate it. I will, however, discuss the bolded comment. Qualifications do not mean that she will get votes from people that do not align with her political beliefs. If you look at Hillary's platform it did not align with what I wanted for my country. there are extremely smart people on both sides of the aisle but we need to take a look at where they want to take our country when placing our votes. I know there were plenty of people talking up Elizabeth Warren. I am fundamentally opposed to her plans for our country, so regardless of her education or qualifications, she will not get my vote. But I suspect I will be accused of being sexist because I didn't vote for the one with a vagina (if she gets the nomination)...and that is just sad. I agree that qualifications may mean nothing if the person is advocating for things you don't like. The important thing to me is to get at least some people to realize the danger Trump is to all of our safety. Please read The Fifth Risk by Michael Lewis if interested. While some of the things he defunded will only cost citizens more money, some put us at definite risk. Like nuclear bombs and materials not being tracked properly, not being stored properly and possibly becoming a big ass explosion that endangers a good portion of America and certainly much of our food and water. (Nice story about a almost that happened in the early 60s, that was declassified in 2013.)

The company I use to work for had a very hard time hiring people. Had every extensive trading program very under utilised. Got to the point where they were paying double time for every hour over 40. work and need was there workers where not. Could not find people for 60 per hour but have demands for extra benefits (not extra hour). I point is let people get hungery, cold/ hot enough they will do something to improve their situation not on my dime. I will give into the fact some can not work. But is not the majority that will not work.

Be live me my education came at a very steep price a lot more than you home folks will ever, ever imagine. Point being redistribution of wealth is only good if the people needing the $ actively try to help. Bill hate built Microsoft in a out building my neighbor stick a needle in his arm in his. Who am I going to back and why
