My trash tonight is not going to the curb. It will go to the trash bin in the garage. It's supposed to snow 6-8 inches tonight. I will see in the morning if conditions are okay to take it to the curb. I don't need a bag of trash in a snow bank that reveals itself when the snow melts. A few years back, we got a heavy snow about 10 days after Christmas, and it snowed once a week or so in January and February. Somewhere in March, the snow finally melted enough to see all the Christmas trees out by the curbs.

I probably need to update my signature line, since I usually post from my phone. I had a goal of getting our tax stuff to the accountant by the middle of February. I might make it by next Monday (if they’re open on President’s Day). I’m just doing random stuff at the moment, although I have stuck to my one drawer per week plan.

Thanks for thinking of me and glad your surgeries were successful Knee Deep in Water Chloe I finally got my pantry put back together. We had enough of the cold and headed south for better weather lol. I should get back on track in a week or two.

Ok, I'm going to attempt to post a picture of my new kitchen shutters. Down here they call them "plantation shutters". Well, the picture looks tiny, (the window is actually rather large), but you get the idea... I can fold them out if I want to open that window this Summer. I'm basically "stuck" right now on reorganizing. I'm working with someone, and the long-term goal is to add storage space to this house. Might be in the Master bedroom, or the kitchen, or both. I'll let you know how it all plays out.

The desk delivery for our office is pushed to Feb 20th. This weekend we will completely clean out the office and reorganize. It is a hot mess right now. It is a dumping ground for a lot of stuff because we can pull the door closed when people come over. With the new furniture we are going to try to stop this pattern.

The auctions for the first 8 games closed. 5 sold (we "made" over $250 on them) and 3 were automatically re-listed. Need to box them up and get them in the mail this week. We have a lady coming by to buy a sofa table/tv stand that DH listed on a fb for sale group.
Not much but it's still stuff leaving the house

The desk delivery for our office is pushed to Feb 20th. This weekend we will completely clean out the office and reorganize. It is a hot mess right now. It is a dumping ground for a lot of stuff because we can pull the door closed when people come over. With the new furniture we are going to try to stop this pattern. This is an over-the-top idea, but... What ifyou switched out the door for a french door? A glass door?

I think I’m back to survival mode, but I’ll keep plugging away at smaller things. I’m attempting to consign some baby/kid stuff at a big sale in a week and a half, so I’ve been getting stuff ready for that. I also brought some shoes in that are too small for M for a coworker that has a daughter about 10 months younger. I gave him some clothes she outgrew a couple of weeks ago as well.

My house didn't get this way overnight, and it's not going to fixed overnight. It's one of the mantras from The FlyLady that really resonates with me.
It took me YEARS to fully de-clutter my house and figure out how to maintain it as "company-ready" (another FlyLady term).
Please know that all progress is good progress.

saveinla I'm sorry to hear about your son. I hope he heals well and soon! sheilaincali that's great progress on the man-cave, plus good money! busymom the shutters are lovely! To quote tcu2003 I am in "survival mode" too. The two young women missed their BFs and decided to share an Uber back tonight. I adore them but I'm happy not to worry about them getting to the train station early tomorrow, since I'm off (exceptionally). Last night's rehearsal was a disaster. I don't want to jinx things but tonight was much better (knocking on wood!) The director added Wed night rehearsal (our only night off). I'm really struggling at this point, but I'm only working Thurs afternoon for the rest of the week ... a VERY happy coincidence. This week (continued)- take in skirt/Tues- pick up package/Wed - tights/Wed I started a load of laundry.
My skirt nearly fell down tonight. Official dress rehearsal is Thursday but we all wore our costumes tonight because some of us have 3-min costume changes and we need the practice. Thank goodness!!! I think I fixed it. Better tonight than in front of 300 people.

ohh, I need to catch up in here. since living in my house, I've basically created a tradition of sandblasting my bedroom the weekend I get home from my cruise. because I pack for vacation like I'm escaping a nuclear bomb, my room needs some TLC when I get home. on Sunday, I moved every piece of furniture and swiffered the dust bunnies off the baseboards and floor in all the spaces I can't usually easily reach. I also threw out close to 2 trash bags of clothes shoes, paper, and just crap that's been collecting since last summer.
I also gathered a small box of unopened travel sized toiletries that I will be dropping off at a local family aid charity, put together a bag to go in the Planet Aid bin (once I've had a chance to go through my closet as well. none of it is winter, so it's fine to wait til next weekend) and also have a stack to go to the consignment store. oh wait, and 5 pairs of shoes are on the yard sale sites now. 3 and brand new, hoping to sell before having to take next to nothing for consignment. anyone a size 8.5? there's a Nine West, an Etienne Aigner, a Bandolino, and a Franco Sarto in the mix.

ha, it's a bit therapeutic anyway. I'm always sick to some extent when I get home, between being generally run down and catching whatever's going around the boat. so I don't leave the house much anyway. but, with an eye to purging whatever unnecessary crap I bring home, I just extend it to the room.

My house looked like that when I left for my cruise. Well it's not just the cruise. Pretty much every trip that involves me getting on an airplane it looks like a bomb went off in my house.

Absolutely no judgement, and I know we are all different. But personally it would ruin my vacation to know I was going to come home to a messy house. I would rather stay up all night to clean if I had to. I'm sure some of that is due to having four kids and knowing that even if I wanted to spent the next couple of days cleaning my room/house, I wouldn't be able to (when they were younger/all still at home). Some of it is just personality. ETA: With DH working at home, it now takes me about 15 min to get my house "company ready". We now have to clear his papers off the kitchen table. Before that, it took me 5 min, I just had to put away a couple of DH's coats, fold up a throw (in fall or winter), and put the LR cushions in the right place.
Sometimes I wish I could be more relaxed about how my house looks. But most of the time, I don't. I don't do it for other people, I do it for ME. For better or worse, that's just how I'm built.

I have never been able to keep my house "company ready". I'm not going to figure it out now. However, compared to dad's apartment, my place is company ready. Compared to my sister's, it's not even close. I don't have many visitors here. It's all family members and they know the kind of housekeeper I am--or an not. In Colorado, I did have friends over. Most were aware of how I kept my house and knew it was just the way I am.

I got MIL's and DD's paperwork caught up again. Found the day timer from last year and the phone number I was looking for.
Did some work on books, brought the current months recon up to date. I need to review 3 entries I made. this was last night. Everytime I get in there I throw papers away, looks like I should be down to nothing but I'm sure not. But each time it makes it better. I have a big cabinet in there I need to declutter and organize better.
Ok, to bed till noon when I need to get ready to go to doc. I'm so tired, sigh. It's quiet, hubs is off hauling trash from the house he is working on, he is tearing out the old bathroom. He went to a tenants house and is getting rid of a mattress for her and boxes. DD is off to the center today, so its peaceful here.

Good idea! We already have a glass door into the office. The previous owners put wood blinds on it, so when you close the door you can't see in the office. Maybe once the redecorating is done, we will take the blinds off - that will hold us accountable to not mess clutter it up.

Thanks for checking up on us Chloe. Hope you are healing well.
Since last I posted I decluttered DD's best friend, a bureau, a mattress and box spring and enough clothes to stock a retail store. I also gave her some kitchen stuff of which I had duplicates. None of this had any real impact except the bureau that languished in my mudroom for 6 months because she kept her belongings confined to her room. Like every other young person I know who leaves home, she still has a ton of stuff that she doesn't need right now and is storing here.
Right before she moved back in I was working on repurposing DS's old room and the spare room attached. DD has managed to totally take over the largest space as her "art room." I need to get up there and address the situation. I'm happy to share the space, but I want it organized and multi-purpose.
DD and DH have offered up more clothing for donation or trash. I'm waiting until the bag is full to put it out for pick up. I have several loads of my own laundry to put away and will try to cull more from the drawers and closet when I get around to it. Lately I'm back to living out of the laundry basket again since it's mainly work clothes anyway.
I've mostly been working on maintenance. I can't seem to get motivated to accomplish any projects. The cold weather and work are sucking the life out of me. I have high hopes that the person responsible for the drama in the location I spend the most time in will quit or get fired. I don't work with her directly but I do have to deal with the passive aggressive crap she leaves for me and the traumatized staff she leaves in her wake. I've already volunteered to pick up the slack should she leave at any point. (And I've been training someone else...) One can only hope.
On the upside, I've been spending time with good friends, and DD who is around a lot more now that her boyfriend has gone off to school. So the house isn't totally organized and work is a bit of a shit show, but overall, life is good.

I think I'm done with school, come May. I'll be only three courses into an MBA so I don't feel like there'll be a feeling of lost time. The tuition is rolled into my Undergrad stuff so the only money "wasted" is the application fee.
I think I just want to purge the hell out of the house and have a yard sale. Super purge, as in: I'm moving in a matter of months and I'm NOT taking this shit with me. I don't see me taking much of any of the furniture with me. There's no point when I can sell most of it, put that money in my Moving fund, move in short-term with my bestie to save up even more money, and then move to my final destination.
I've been here more than 13 years and I'm just done. There is, aside from the school stuff, no good way for me to grow myself here. I'm stagnant and, if I stay until the MBA is done, I'll be stagnant for another 15-20 months. I want to get out and do stuff. I want to be around my close friends. I want to have fewer expenses and travel more. The biggest hurdle would be getting the house sold.

Well it took a few days, but I finally got my kitchen finished. I managed to go through every cabinet and drawer, purging and organizing. I cleaned off the top of the fridge and organized the inside of the fridge and freezer. I even tackled under the sink (which was a scary place). It feels so nice to have it all in order again. It's the only room in the house that we haven't remodeled. It needs it, but it's has to wait until the attic conversion is finished. So, in the mean time, just having it organized and neat will do.
I purged/donated 94 items!
Total for my goal: 667/2,019 items
