i hadn't really shopped in WAGS before i joined this group. we only ran there for the occasional medical emergency - oh, no, out of baby tylenol again!! - or we went for prescriptions because of proximity. i had never been in a cvs until i joined this group. we don't have RA so still haven't experienced that one. so i went to wally-world today. i wanted to get pricing on our normal eating items & will compare them to target. i also wanted to pick up a few things i knew were the lowest priced. i walked out with 23 items & still spent $52!!! i'm almost regretting the entire trip. why oh why did kroger have to end doubles/triples? i seriously don't know how we're going to afford groceries once this stockpile is used. jdnstl, We don't have a Walmart close to where I live, so we used to go there once or twice as year and I would come out of the store spending 150-200 dollars on stuff that I would not even think I needed, so I feel your pain. Maybe once Kroger sees people cutting back, they may change their policy and bring doubles back after some time. Ralphs here (Kroger chain) used to double only the first two coupons, but they are doubling all coupons now. saveinla - i hope you're right. it's just that some stuff i could get name brand on & with double/triples it would still be cheaper than WM's brand. like yesterday, i priced salsa. i don't eat it but DH loves it on EVERYTHING. i had a stockpile of Pace from a mega sale - 24 oz for $1.75 after mega & double value coupons. the price for great value brand = $1.98, WM's price for pace 24 oz jar = $3.12!!! since we were down to 2 jars & DH uses 1 jar/week i picked up 1 jar of the GV brand to last him through until i can get through this rough patch of re-figuring pricing & sales cycles.

jdnstl: We have The Dollar Tree here--the closes 99 cent store is across the bridge ($5 toll) so unless I have to go that side, I don't get those great deals. We each eat yogurt everday and the 99 cent store has Yoplait greek yogurt 4/$1, regular Yoplait 5/$1. Like dancinmama, I've tried their produce as well but make sure to really, really, really wash it before using (good idea no matter where you buy your produce).
I was in Target last Saturday and the gal in the meat department was reducing the price of their chicken/beef by $3 per package. I got 2 pkgs of boneless pork chops for $1.99 ea; 4 lb. FF whole chicken for $1.34; stew meat for $3.00; london broil for $4; 2 pkgs FF boneless/skinless breasts for $4.50 ea. I was able to use the $2.50 off FF breasts IP q as well. My little refrigerator freezer is quite full! Just so you know, they do the markdowns 1 week before the expiration on the packages.
I would have made my goal of $200 or less on food for the month of April if it hadn't been for Easter dinner!! Darn--we hosted 10 people so even with all my hounding, coupons, etc., I'll be over--mostly because of the wine, beer, and the huge pork tenderloin I cooked. It was delicious! ;D

jdnstl: I don't know how people afford to shop at Walmart. Our Walmart has brand name milk at 4.74/gal (the store brand tasted funny or went bad too fast, so we steer clear) while RA has the same name brand milk for 3.19/gal and WAGs has a different name brand for 3.49. Eggs, hotdogs, lunchmeat, sour cream, all cereals, all snacks, etc are severely overpriced, too as compared to the Target, the drugstores, the local grocery store that doubles coupons (I have to know my price book with them, though), and the Kroger that is 30 miles from my home, but 8 miles from one of my offices (they still double coupons). But I know a lot of people that walk into Walmart, load up the buggy and don't blink at the prices or the package shrinkage..... As far as the changes at the drugstores, I think they will last for awhile, but I think that the loss of sales from the couponers will catch up with them. Case in point: Over the last 2 years Walmart removed 10,000 different items from their shelves and replaced all these different varieties (i.e. frosted mini wheats are only available in bite size, blueberry, and strawberry, before they offered all the flavors like mini bites, touch of fruit etc) with great value products or not at all. Now, 18 months later, Walmart has seen sales dip, and they are adding back 8,000 products to compete with retailers like Target who have bitten into their bottom line. They will try these changes to try to fatten their bottom line, but eventually the drugstores will have manufacturers breathing down their necks due to lack of product movement, so I think we will see some of the perks come back....... misspt - if you are shopping without coupons & not watching sales then WM is the best price here. here, their milk is about the same as other stores, only a few pennies cheaper. eggs, cheese, lunchmeat, bread are all cheaper by a few pennies than the other stores - except during sales cycles. i don't think WM runs sales cycles like other stores. and especially since they have loosened their price match policy, (you don't have to have the ad physically with you) they don't worry so much about matching competitor's sale prices. i also think most people who shop at WM don't even think about price-matching. they just get what they need & pay what they have to pay. i normally watch for milk on clearance at kroger each week - usually saturday or sunday i can find a gallon or 2 marked down because it's close to expiration. since we drink milk fast i don't mind getting it like that. i also watch for the sales like last week at CVS - it was $2.99/gal with $1EB = $1.99/gal!! since kroger has skyrocketed milk to $3.89/gal this was a huge sale!! but my original post i was lamenting more about our everyday stuff - salsa, canned carrots, chickpeas, potatoes, tomatoes, pasta sauce, uncle bens ready rice - without double/triples mega sales that might include some of these things, or even rock bottom sale prices, it's just not going to be as good of a stock-up price.

Also, it is across town so unless I KNOW that I'm going to really score there, it is not worth the gas to drive there. I am so glad, though, that you have found another source for meats. Either my Safeway is getting smarter about what they order OR (and more likely) people have caught on to the clearance bin. It used to be that I had my pick of several different clearance meat items on a regular basis. Now, the bin is usually EMPTY. I have a pretty good stockpile of clearance meat in the freezer, but it is not going to last forever. I can't believe that I might have to resort to regular sale prices. Besides the Always Tender pork tenderloin that I stockpiled recently, I haven't purchased meat that wasn't marked 50% off in the clearance bin for probably over a year. This one thing made a HUGE difference in what I spent on groceries and appears to be gone. Oh well, like everything else, I knew that it wouldn't last forever.

I noticed a couple of people commented that RA wasn't good this week. I just want to note that IF you have a survey, you can always get something around $3 that you need free. You may need to buy a couple of items that you don't need/want. That's what I'm doing these days. I've made a list of items that are non-perishable that I'd like a nice collection of: -Saran wrap (doesn't matter the brand) -wax paper -sandwich bags Etc. Yesterday, I got my "saran wrap" collection up to 4, so that gets crossed off the list. Here's one of the transaction's I did yesterday that allowed me to do this: 2 RA Clear Plastic Wrap 200 ft. ($1.99 ea x 2) = $3.98 1 Veet Wax Strips for Face $4.79 1 Lady Mitchum $4.29 1 Men's Mitchum $2.14 (All Deodorant is Buy One, get One 1/2 off) Total $15.20(Note: I live in a no-sales-tax State) Then, I used the following Coupons: Survey Coupon $(3.00) Veet In-Ad $(3.00) Veet MQ IP $(2.00) Mitchum RA Q $(5.00) Mitchum MQ IP Facebook $(1.00) Mitchum MQ (Sunday ad) $(.75) Total OOP .45
And, Received $1 Up for VeetAll in a day's work.... P.S. I'm a little tired, so I didn't write out all the info on where the Q's came from, but if anyone wants to know, I will look 'em up.

i just overdid it at staples! they had several size storage containers on clearance about a week or two ago. They were marked down to $3.60 from $5.99. i had gone in to use the free after MIR HP paper coupon & pay with my rewards from recycling toner cartridges & wanted to do 2 transactions to get the MIR at 2 addys. well after i did the 1st transaction the cashier gave me my receipt with the remaining rewards balance ($12.xx) & asked if i knew that i could only use the rewards once more & any unused balance would be forfeited. so basically i needed $12.xx in products & only had $5.99 (the HP paper) so i wondered around the store & came across the clearance table where they had the storage boxes. i added 2 sets of 2-15 qt containers. after a water leak under our sink this past weekend i decided i needed more containers to help hold the stuff under the sink in a more organized fashion, along with containers needed to organize my stockpile as i try to live off that for the next 6-9 months. well, i needed to go to that side of town for something else so i stopped in there during lunch & guess what? THEY WERE MARKED DOWN FURTHER - $2.50. i saw in the target ad that the 66 qt totes are on sale for $6.99, a 15-qt latching box is on sale for $4.49. i got a set of 2-15 qt containers for $2.50!! well, actually i got all the containers that were left; which was 4 each of the 40 qt, 5 each of the 2 ct-15 qt, and 2 each of the 4 ct-7 qt. i got 22 containers for less than $30. i'm very sorry to anyone who wanted some for being a shelf-clearer, but in this case it's clearance , which means 'you snooze, you lose'.

You are extremely lucky to live in a no sales tax state. Considering your circumstances, that is EXACTLY the way that I would play it too. When I wanted to stockpile paper towels (which I have never been able to get for free after MC), I looked for a decent sale at WAGs (happened to be on Bounty) and I got a couple of rain checks. Then, every time I would get RRs and had nothing better to do with them, I'd cash in a rain check for Bounty. I have built many a small stockpile using this strategy. In my case, your RA scenario would cost me $1.86 in OOP due to sales tax, so unless most of the items in the scenario are things that we would use or need to add to our stockpile, it would not be worth the time and effort and the cost of gas; but everyone's circumstances are different. Keep up the good work. You'll have a lot of items crossed off your stockpile list in no time.

I was just browsing through Wags and CVS ads for the next two weeks and trying to figure out if there is anything I really need or want for the stockpile or pantry. Is it my imagination or are Wags and CVS trying to compete with I think more RR's and EB's offered? Next week, it looks to me like there are more opportunities. I'm not seeing much that I need or really want. What about you guys?

Free of course, by using the survey coupon. Yeah, sales tax would make my scenario's totally different. It probably wouldn't be worth it.

Anyone know if wags tracks how many times you make returns? When you return something (without a receipt?) You needx to fill out a sheet with name, address, phone. I feel I am in a wags store once a week.for some adjustment or return, sometimes right after they hand me my receipt and I see their error, sometimes mine *sigh* i am worried I am going to be flagged or something for returning when it's all legit! I am just a little paranoid pudgybunny: IF you are returning with a receipt, there should be no info taken in the return/exchange. It is when returning without a receipt that they take down all your personal info. If it is their error, you should not be "dinged" for that and you would need a receipt to prove their error anyway - so, again, no personal info should be taken. If it is your error, then just be more careful so that you reduce the need for returns. I think in the last four years, I have returned something to WAGs only twice. Both times they took my name, addie, phone number, and DL number, so yes, they are keeping track of it in their computers. What do they do with it? Who knows. Just be REALLY careful to reduce the need for returns and "eat" as much of it as you can.

It all depends on what you have to buy to get what you really want. I did the spend $30 on cleaning products and get a $10UP and we will use EVERYTHING that I bought except the Fabreze Noticables, but I'll get a rebate for that, so it's all good. I don't mind paying the sales tax nearly as much if I'm buying products that we need.

Just be REALLY careful to reduce the need for returns and "eat" as much of it as you can. I know that one of the reasons larger retail stores track returns is to ferret out shoplifters. Hopefully that is what Wags is doing as well. Although, certainly stores could decide that someone is costing them too much money by having to constantly do returns. I very rarely do returns with these drug stores. I think I've done 2 at Wags and 1 at RA in the last 4 years. Hopefully, you can maybe catch things at the register BEFORE the transaction is complete in the future, so you don't have to deal with this. Even without the issue of tracking, I'd be concerned that I'd be "known" as the person who always does returns. Overall, what do you think is the main issue for why your transactions are having problems?

i just overdid it at staples! That's okay, I went overboard at the commissary this morning. They had an in-store coupon $1/2 for Betty Crocker fruit snacks. I use them for 'potty treats'. They were also on sale for $1.50 per box, so I bought 14 boxes for $1 each. And picked up 4 pounds of thick cut Tyson bacon for $1.39 per pound. And 7 pounds of Kraft cheese for $1.50 per pound. All my coupons are going to expire on Saturday! I had to use them up! ;D

Leana I certainly treat my stockpile as carefully as if I had to go pay shelf to get more as soon as I ran low/out. I use rags WAAAY more than paper towels and use a little detergent & dish wash soap as possible. Bottled water is something I seldom use soI just have a few bottles for emergencies – tornado, flood……. I enjoyed reading what you shared, Maryholly. We work hard to obtain our "free" items, so it's not like they're totally free - our time is valuable!

COUPON USAGE ON BOGO SALE AT CVS:
I was just brousing the CVS forum on HCW and some people are reporting that CVS is no longer allowing a BOGO and $/$ MC on a BOGO sale; neither are they being allowed to use (2) $/$$ on a BOGO sale. Can anyone say, "Nature's Bounty"?
Here's a direct quote from one of the posters:
My fave cashier told me that because of *that show*, they were cracking down on couponers before corp stepped in. Not sure what that meant but took it that tougher policies could come soon. I sure hope not as CVS is the only drug store I go to.
It sounds like it might be just the one store (for now), but thought I'd give you CVS shoppers a heads up for whatever it's worth.

Remember on the old ethernet boards you "slap x with a wet fish"? I'd like to slap these EC people with a wet fish. They are getting on my last couponing nerve- which doesn't take much right now

ALL RITE AID UPs PROMOS WILL NOW HAVE LIMITS:
I haven't seen anyone post anything about this here. Did you guys know this?
Well, that was good while it lasted too.
What has been your favorite unlimited UPs purchase? I have two. One was the toilet paper and the other was the snacks.

Shopping with coupons is lots of fun for me, and it satisfies my desire to shop without me spending a lot of money and amassing a bunch of junk we don't need. I would never go back to shopping like I did before. I can't even believe I used to shop like that. debinwa: Until you experience the wonder of coupons, there is no way to know how great the savings can really be. I was fortunate to grow up in a household where my mom used coupons, so I've always known that they saved money. My aha moment was when I realized over 20 years ago, that having one coupon was good, but having multiples was even better. You'd be shocked to know that I am one of those people that hate to shop , so I have never couponed as a substitute for shopping. Actually, I am the same way-- I really don't like to shop. But sometimes I just get a hankering for something new. Getting some new bodywashes or something like that satisfies the need for a little treat. Better than buying a new piece of furniture or something!!

Well, I announced how I was ready to jump right back into things on this board.........................On Easter morning just before 7 am, my best friend was involved in a very serious car accident. She was life-flighted to a university hospital in the city, 50 miles away. She has numerous injuries, but is stable at this point. She is not married & her parents are no longer living. So, I've been going to the hospital every day & will continue to do so until she is home, where I will be at her beckon call. So, I'll try to pop in & out until she's well into her recovery.
Our area is finally getting our Walgreens. It's set to open any day & there was an ad for them in this week's paper. Can someone give me the skinny on Register Rewards (RR's)? I'm familiar with EB's or ECB's (CVS) and UPs (Rite Aid), and imagine RRs are similar. Any advice would be appreciated.

ALL RITE AID UPs PROMOS WILL NOW HAVE LIMITS:I haven't seen anyone post anything about this here. Did you guys know this? Well, that was good while it lasted too. What has been your favorite unlimited UPs purchase? I have two. One was the toilet paper and the other was the snacks. Yep mine too. And the light bulbs-- that was a great one.

Since she is all alone, she is really fortunate to have you to hep her. 1. There are no limits on the RR deals. 2. You cannot do more than one of the same RR deal in the same transaction. In other words, if an item is $2.99 and giving a $2RR, if you buy two in the same transaction you will only get ONE $2RR. 3. You cannot use a RR to roll into the same RR deal. In other words, if you use that $2RR to buy the same RR item in the next transaction, you will not get another $2RR. You can, however, roll it into a different RR deal. 4. When doing transactions at WAGs, the number of manufacturer coupons that you use CANNOT exceed the number of items that you have in your transaction. RRs are manufacturer's coupons so they must be included in your coupon count. In-ad coupons are not manufacturer's coupons so you do not include them in your coupon count. 5. You can stack a manufacturer's coupon and an in-ad coupon. IF by doing so you will get overage, ALWAYS give the MC first and then the in-ad coupon; if you reverse the order your MC will beep. 6. Limits on the in-ad coupons are not enforced by the register. Feel your store out. My store does not enforce the limits when I am making a purchase, but if I ask for a rain check the max they'll write it for is the limit. 7. RRs USUALLY expire two weeks from the date they are received. 8. Coupon Order: RRs, MCs, WAGs in-ad or Instant Value Coupons (IVCs) Geez, bugsi, that's all I can think of. frugalsuz might have a WAGs 101 on her blog ( www.frugalsuz.blogspot.com ). If you have any specific questions, just post and I or one of the other gals will help you out. I remember when I found out that I was getting a CVS, I started studying right away. I asked a TON of questions on the GC. When the doors opened, I was able to hit the ground running.
