It is just DH, myself and DSS for NYE. I am looking for some ideas for a bunch of appetizer stuff for picky eaters.
Everything I want to make the guys won't eat, and I must be a food snob or something, cuz I really don't want to make cocktail wieners wrapped in crescent roll dough, which they would eat.
DH can't eat shellfish. DSS doesn't like fish. Both pretty much only like green beans and corn. Neither of them do dips or spreads. No tomatoes, no mushrooms....
There just is no fun in a cheese and cracker platter. I want to do something more creative than that.

I have seen that at get togethers with other people, and DH doesn't eat that. With such a large number of people here, hopefully somebody has ideas that I can do.

If you are going to have a few, just go ahead and make up some stuff everyone else will eat. The picky eaters will either eat it or go hungry

It will just be the 3 of us. The number of people I was talking about is the number of people here on the boards. I need to mine people for ideas!

I resort to making veggies I like. He actually asked me once not to use canned diced tomatoes in the chili.
He is good with meat and potatoes, but I love finding ways to jazz things up.

Has your family had pierogi? It's more of a Christmas Eve thing for me, but it could work for NYE. Ohhhh, this looks good and easy to make... Blue Cheese and Pear Tart. find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=50400000107325How about egg rolls? They are easy and fun to make. Or I have a recipe for spinach squares (spinach, eggs, cheese and bake it) which could be used for appetizers. I've made garlic cream puffs *or something like that) that are really good (bite-sized fried dough, cut in half and spread a garlic, cream cheese mixture in the middle like a sandwich). They don't have to be served hot. Yummmm, I may have to make those soon. Sausage quiches - www.food.com/recipe/mini-sausage-quiche-appetizers-340466

Oh...all those ideas sound great for ME! Spinach...bleu cheese...bruschetta...mmmm...not so much for the guys. Peirogi is an idea. DH does like those, and I can get them at a Polish deli. DH won't touch cream cheese unless it is in a cheesecake. UGH! Why does he have to be so difficult?

I Would find out the food preferences of each person.
Then create something based on their favorite food AND make it sooo much better[kick it up a notch] and then name my creation after them.
So the can say 'Mom, could you make ......... for me'

Oven roast very fresh corn in husk 30-40 min @450
Husk corn at table and serve with butter and salt.
Check out foodnetwork.com for other recipes using corn or green beans.

I always hope to get ideas from recipes people have actually used. There is such a plethora of recipes online, and when swapping here, it is so nice to have people share things that worked for them. Thanks for the corn suggestion though.

Set out a 'buffet style' in small portions like a tappas- of various meats they like steamed potatoes-try new potatoes and an unusual variety like purple potatoes green beans and corn dishes. OR Make your own variation of a salad nicoise[substiituting and putting on it only the foods they like] This salad traditionally has green beans and potatoes.

Actually, I mistyped, the garlic fritters don't have cream cheese, it's sour cream. Is that any better? I could PM you the recipe if you want. Yeah, I grabbed the cookbook from the cupboard before I left for work. I'll be making these for NYE instead of the stuffed 'srooms I usually make.

Cheesy, make what you want! If they don't like the proposed menu, they can bring something they like.

Cheesy, do they like jalapenos?
If they do, don't tell them about the cream cheese, but cut the peppers in half length wise, seed and devein, stuff with a teaspoon of cream cheese, wrap in 1/2 slice of bacon and broil until the bacon is completely cooked.
Even my picky SIL will eat a platter of those.

SBS -- feel free to PM me the garlic fritter recipe.
Cheesy -- why not take the pig-in-the-blanket and jazz it up? Get some good kielbasa or sausage, make a beer-and-cheese bread dough and use that to make your own. You can make a sweet/hot mustard and a homemade bbq sauce for dipping.
What about mac and cheese? If they like that, then make a fancier mac and cheese and use it to make the little mac and cheese balls.
Nachos can be fancied up.
If they like potatos, what about latkes? You could then have some fun making different toppings.
