3cats- being responsible is exhausting, isn't it?
I'm in a very tired place. This co-worker leaving us in the lurch has me scrambling to cover a lot of things in a short period of time. Does not make startsmart happy. And with all the stress I keep forgetting to eat meals.
I need something, a shot of caffeine, a bunch of rest, a personal assistant minion... something.

gin- I need an in person assistant so I can push through and get all my work done but still have coffee made and meals ready basically a stay at home husband/cook lol I'm working with an online VA now and spend 3 hours a week training her so progress is being made, it's just slow when someone quits and I have to spend hours sorting it all out. Anywho, not trying to complain, just cranky today. grateful I have a job and income and some of my sanity.

baltimore was amazing! the concert was superfantastic and we stayed on budget. our hotel was one block away from the venue and about 6 blocks to the inner harbor. unfortunately, there was a lot of rain and yankees fans but it was still money well spent. speaking of money, i've been lucking out lately. parking at our hotel was $7 less than at the hotel where we thought we were staying, i went to mac to recycle some makeup and wound up with a free eye shadow due to their recycling program, got $40 worth of products from the body shop for $20, and just got a refund of $.11 on a book i ordered last week! my dh is up for a job that comes with a small (about $4K) raise as well. i've also figured out a charity that is worth both my time and money (i usually just give money in addition to caring for one and half feral cats. the half is a long story). i've been looking for the right fit for a while and i finally found it! there is a church near my house that gives out to-go food bags and hygiene kits to the homeless; they have a hygiene product drive twice a year that i will be contributing to. i also have an idea brewing but i think i need to spend some time with the organization before i present it. dakota--i read the help last month (it took me about 4 days to finish). it's a great book! if it makes you feel better, i went on a book spree a couple of weeks ago. mizbear--we drove through your neck of the woods on the way to baltimore. i waved. startsmart--sorry about your mom's job. my mom lost her job last year and she's so much happier at her new one. smartphones--does anyone have one? for a bunch of reasons, i'm starting to think i need one and i was wondering what others are using.

My spend day: Fry's $42.29 Walmart: $22.60 Total: $64.89 I have enough for dinner through next Tuesday! Now if we could only stick to the plan. I hope to keep it under $100 through next week. Pay day is next Friday so I know we can do it. **I ate lunch at home today and I took back $14 worth of merchandise to Old Navy** It is shaping up to be a CSD~Now if I can just keep myself at home for the rest of the day** Mrs. Lynch: I have the ingredients for the Tortellini Soup. I plan on making it on Friday! I'm so excited!

MrsL- If I had known you were coming by I could have run out and waved back. Proximity has its advantages.
I fussed with the MamaBear about her budget again since she is trying to put me in a bind with her bad habits. I will see what the next few days bring and report back. DGM is very not happy with DM after overhearing today's discussion.

3cats: Congrats on the newest addition to your family Today is my baby's birthday. He is 13 and now officially a teenager. I am still trying to adjust to that. I read Dakota's stories about mini-d and it takes me back to when the Boy was that age. He is growing up way to fast. He taught me something yesterday about being the bigger person. He had a friend in his group that told him a couple of months ago "I don't like you and don't want to be your friend". DS was upset but moved on with life. In the past couple of weeks this kid has started playing PS3 (on line) with DS. Yesterday the Boy called me and said "Mom, can you call W and invite him to my birthday party? I just found out his mom was diagnosed with Cancer this week and he looked pretty upset at school today. Maybe getting out and bowling with me and the other guys would cheer him up". So I called his mom and invited the kid- she said he would love to come so he is coming to the party tomorrow. I took the Boy's lead and called my ExSIL (her weekend with the kids) and invited her and the kids to the party too. She accepted immediately and is really looking forward to coming. She said she misses us all and hopes to be able to rebuild a friendship with us all for the sake of the kids. We ended up talking for like an hour. It was really a nice conversation. First time I have talked to her since her and Dbro separated 18 months ago. I am so proud of the Boy though. This kid was mean to him and when the kid was upset DS' first instinct was to forgive and forget and try to cheer him up. I figure I probably have made a million mistakes with my kid but it's things like that that reassure me that I must be doing a few things right too

3cats - Sorry to hear how worn out you are feeling. I know you have mixed feelings about your son having another child. However I am glad to hear the baby is healthy and has arrived safely.
Ladies - So I am still vying for The Best Host Mother In The World Award !!!
Anyone remember that on Election Day I took the girls to Washington DC for the day for a grand total of $139 RT for all three of us?
Well, I just purchased tickets to take all of us to New York City on Wednesday, June 8th for the day for a grand total of $118.40 RT.
I SO rock!!!

3cats: Congrats on the new grandson. Regardless of how you feel about his parents' decision making capabilities, I know you will love and adore him.
sheila: Hapyy birthday to the Boy! And good for both of you. I know it was very hard on my brother and I for the years that my father's family did not speak to (but spoke badly of) my mother. They had been very close, and it was if she had divorced them all. Now, they have a wonderful relationship again with cards and letters and FB friendships. My stepmother hates it, but everyone else is much happier. This woman was your friend as well as your SIL and its nice to remember the things you liked about each other, even if her relationship with DBro didn't work out. (And forgive me if I have wrong DBro, but don't we all agree he's a bit of an ass, so can we really blame this woman for getting out?)
Honey: You do ROCK

Congrats on the new grandbaby 3cats.
Ugghh! I forgot that DH has extra duty for the next 3 nights (He oversees the tech crew on performance nights.) So it is going to be just mini-D and me at home. Hopefully it will be nice enough we can go work in the yard (or I can work in the yard and he can use his sidewalk chalk). Then after he goes to bed I can try and read some. I tried to read last night, but mini-D wanted me to pay attention to him.
DH gave me my birthday present last night, a 15in cast iron skillet. It is something I wanted and he gave it to me early because we are hosting my parents and DB's family for my mom's birthday on Sunday and he didn't want me to have to cook in shifts in the smaller skillets.
Shelia- Happy birthday to the boy! That is great that he is willing to forgive and forget.

Shanen- YES this is the brother that is an ass. I completely understand why she would want a divorce. They married young- she was 20 when they got married. And as she grew up I think she just didn't like the direction her life was going. My brother is a VERY difficult person to get along with. The husband's we hear about on these boards: domineering, always right, won't let the wife touch the finances but at the same time is driving them into debt, etc.
Lately he has been better- I have been working to stay calm with him and not be short with him. I do have to scold him from time to time when he starts getting riled up. He goes from calm to yelling in about 5 seconds. This morning he and Dad were discussing some troubleshooting on some equipment and DBro started getting all worked up and I had to tell him "Calm down, we don't need to start yelling over a leak in an air compressor". That seemed to do the trick.

Honey- You rock- again! 3cats- The thing about children with parents that make poor decisions is that many of them luckily have other family members to watch over them- these children have you. Sheila- Shows what great parenting the Boy has had. My insurance has decided to tell me what day I can get my depo shot on regardless of when I should actually have it! I am ready to scream. I don't have a man in my life, but I have enough female issues to drive my gyn more nuts than I am. I need my shot- or they need to pay to for the surgery so I don't have to have the shots....I am evil and in pain without my shot. Dr's ofc is trying to figure this out. HUGS

sheila- happy birthday to the boy! I know you're so so proud of him!
3cats- glad the new baby is healthy, be sure to get some rest with all that work and family changes going on.
So dang tired, just going hour by hour and getting as much as I can accomplished. Will try to be offline here more until things calm down (ha) or I get more support from my company. If I could just hire the people to do the work it would be fine but they won't agree to it just now.

sheila--happy bday to the boy! he is a great kid. 3cats--congrats on the new grandbaby! azmom--i hope you like the soup. i'd love to hear what variation you put on it or if you follow the exact recipe, how you liked it. i'm torn between making the soup for dinner tonight or pasta with homemade sauce. honey--those are some amazing deals. mizbear--i know that you are a caretaker for your family, but i have a question and i hope you don't take it the wrong way. how is it that you are constantly getting dragged into your family member's drama? it can't possibly be good for you, given your condition, to have to deal with this on a daily basis.

This weekend is going to be insane! It's going to take very careful planning with the amount of stuff I have to do and doing what I want to do. Lately the have-to's have taken over my life, so I'm making sure I get my want-to's in, even if it kills me.

Update: 15 CS + 10 NS = 25 of 26, 8 of 12 MOANsDH had to get gas both Tuesday night and last night, so those two days ended up being CSDs instead of NSDs, so I won't quite make the bonus goal of 12 NSD, but we will make our 26 total CS/NSDs, so I'm still good with it. Today and tomorrow are both planned spends- we have a big dinner out in celebration of multiple April birthdays tonight, so tomorrow will be grocery shopping. I am hoping to get one more MOAN in- mowing the lawn either today or tomorrow, depending on weather. diana: definitely make sure you get some me time in ( startsmart this goes for you, too) spruby: Yay for refunds that can help fund the next trip. Where are you thinking? I need some vicarious travel planning.

mrsl- Unfortunately- I became the "fixer" a long long time ago. It's a habit I am trying hard to break. Karma for having the nerve to ask a questin that some of my therapists of the past have avoided. It's a loaded one.

I SHOULD get another NSD today. There is no reason/need for us to spend a dime today so I need an extra dose of self control to make that happen! Yesterday, DH took a rare day off and decided to start the day by taking the baby out to a donut shop for breakfast. Yea, because every three year old needs a sugary chocolate sprinkled donut first thing in the morning! I went along but didn't get anything because I had already had my oatmeal and coffee at home! We also too her to story time at the Barnes and Noble. They read a story, do a craft, and give the kids a sample size Starbucks smoothie all for FREE! DH tagged along to that too and it was wonderful because I was able to browse around the store in peace while he spent time with her! For Mothers Day I told DH that I want PW cookbook and Caroline Kennedy's new book She Walks in Beauty A Woman's Journey through Poems and I still want these books. I want to own them because I want to write in them and leave notes and my thoughts and then hand it down to my children and I already checked and several recipes I want out of PW book are NOT on line otherwise I would go that route. Anyhow, whilst in the children section I was browsing poetry for children because I am going to incorporate it into our "Summer School" curriculum and I came across another book by Caroline Kennedy, A Family of Poems: My favorite poetry for children and well I want that too! Have any of you read either of these books? Anywho, after story time we took the baby to eat at Mc Donalds and then a $10 trip to Home Depot so DH can do yard work. We did have dinner at home and then we were off to watch a softball and baseball game!
Sruby: Yippee Sheila: Awe, your DS makes my heart so happy. Happy birthday to him and yea for you reaching out. Hope all works out. 3Cats: Congrats to you Honey: There was never any question that you in deed ROCK!
All I know there was more but I have to get off this computer and be a mommy.
Happy No Spending

the wind is whipping around today, not good for me. Need to fill up the car with gas (it's a lightweight otherwise), drop off library movies, a UPS package and then come home to work for a few hours before packing the car and heading out for the weekend. 90 minutes in the car today, 4 hours tomorrow and probably 5 hours Sunday means I need to schedule a massage for Monday. I'm going to be so sore after all that sitting.

Next trip - hmmmm - here is the travel schedule:
Black Hills meet up - maybe - depends on job situation (still hopeful for new job by then) - 50/50 chance
End of July - promotion ceremony in TX for a friend - we'll be in San Antonio & Austin - could use the money there - depends on free cash flow at the time
Late Sept/Oct - we have a Panama canal cruise planned - with some extra days in LA since DH has never been there - the $$ may go here
Or I decide I can't take it any more and roll the cash into a trip to NY with DH for a weekend of shows/fine food/museums!

honey - great airfare deal! Is this another day trip with the girls? I don't have a ton of NY tips since most of mine have been business trips - but I have a few if you want them - plus lots of friends who have lived there!

Looks like I will be doing stuff in the attic this weekend- still no word on my re-inspect date. My oldest niece will be 12 tomorrow and is sick. We took her out for her birthday dinner and she got sick in the middle of it.

5 NSD, a blog post, and I made Mrs. Lynch's tortellini soup (so good)! I also cleaned out my spice cabinet, a pantry and took down Easter decor and replaced it with a mini wine bar (even though we only have one bottle of wine in our 5 ring wine holder! Hoping not to spend another dime. I will probably take the kids to the library just to get them out of the house. If they want to go to the park they need to wake up in the next hour or else it will be too hot. DH and I may be growing up just a little bit. A bunch of our friends are going to the D-Backs game today (it is one of our friends b-day and he is a Cubs fan-they are in town) Anyhow, at first mention we were in action mode, arranging sitters, a plan for the light rail, etc. Well after a day I realized that next weekend we are most likely to go out too for Mothers Day so DH and I talked and decided No Go on the very fun night out with friends We can justify going ten times over but that is our problem we can always justify a spend and with only 5 NSD this month we seriously need some self control. The same friends may be having a get together next Saturday and we already have a babysitter. These same friends are who we have Cards Season Tickets with so we do see them frequently between August and January! Exciting news: Our church did the Dave Ramsey University last year and one of our friends just paid off $23,000+ in debt in one year!! She is a stay at home mom and her DH is a nurse. He worked double shifts and she watched kids and lived off a tight budget. It was funny because she watched a baby for a period of time when a new mom went back to work. Anyhow, at MOMs she would call him her FPU Baby!! Hope you all have a great weekend and as always Happy No Spending!

azmom: That is great for your friend. What dedication. Also that was a great decision. Maybe you need to have a "fun" budget and when it is gone for the month you are done? then you don't have to worry about justifying and you can see what you spent. Just an idea.
It is raining and DS#1 has baseball pictures, oh joy. Would be nice for the nice weather to come and stay for a few days. But at least it is not snowing.
I need to see if I can get DF, DS#1 and DD on Minnesota care, they may qualify since we are not married. Really it is sad how many ways we will get hit if we get married. Not only that I find it really irritating that because I scrimped and saved and didn't piss every penny I have away we don't qualify for a lot. If it is income based we qualify for everything but if they take into account your assets we qualify for nothing ARG!
I want to start exercising again but I injured my shoulders so I don't want to do any upper body stuff. If it would stop raining I would try to get a walk in....
On a good note the rain is turning the grass green and my plants are growing!

WOrking at a conference today and in my estimate it's about 26 minutes until the session ends and everyone pounces. Its nice to see everything come together so well after two months of planning here.
Had a good Friday with mom as well, we did some shopping and I made dinner (crispy tacos!) and caught up with mom and dad. The puppies are always happy to see each other but mom's older dog is really a "b" so after she snaps at one of the smaller dogs they usually run to use to hide
Already a spend day since it cost me $12 to receive two package from the concierge. Ridiculous! I will expense those though and the $8 parking garage fees!
