azmom: Karma to you . It's technically both my niece and nephew (sister and brother). We are working on them now for exactly the reasons you described. I'd hate for them to have to miss out on birthday parties and sleepovers because their friend's families have pets. They seem to be making huge progress. Last time they were near a cat they screamed until I locked it up. This weekend they were at a family friends house and actually played with their cat. I am proud of you for working on your fear.

azmom: First, on wordpress, choose one of the posts with the messed up font and edit it. At the top of the box, there should be 2 lines of formatting options (adding links, etc.) The first option on the 2nd line should have a drop down box. Best guess is that for the two posts that show up in funny font, that box will say "preformatted". Click the down arrow and change it to "paragraph" I think this happens sometimes when the post page takes a little too long to load, and you click where you think the text box starts and instead accidentally click that little box.
As for dogs- I find it sad that people are afraid of dogs. At the same time, I know that some people aren't pet people. Coming from a family of animal people, it is a foreign concept to me, one I can't really fathom, but the world is filled with things I don't understand that I just have to accept. As long as you know this about yourself and don't bring a pet into the family, I have no problems with it. I congratulate you on working on your fear of dogs, and its great that your kids don't feel any at all. I always make sure that people who are coming to my house for the first time know that I have dogs, and I warn them about their over enthusiastic welcoming behavior. For people who are nervous, we actually get them in and seated before we let the dogs meet them. And while I do my best to monitor my dogs behavior with guests, I can't be paying attention at all times, so I make sure my guests know they have a right to tell the dog no, down, off, etc. I believe its important that my dogs respect and listen to any person I choose to let into our home.

THANK YOU SHANEN!! I would have never figured that out, mainly because I didn't have a second line showing but I hit every option on the first line and the second line magically appeared!! THANK YOU THANK YOU! Next on my list is to figure out how to add the blogs I read...but I think I have spent enough time on my computer today!

azmom: When you're on the dashboard page, on the left side of the screen you should have a column of options. One will say links. If there's a box with additional options under Links, select Add New and fill out the form. If there's not a box, click on Links and when the page opens, there should be an Add New button right next to where it says Links on the top of the page. mrsl and I both use Categories to call out different types of links. You can choose to do that, or you can just list them all together.
I've been pondering starting a blog thread here on WIR for people who are blogging/want to start to blog to ask questions and talk to each other, etc. I think I'm going to go do that.

Life has slowed for a few moments, enough to check in and make a few comments. I have been busy applying for a part-time job. This is a very challenging process since I haven't done it for over three decades and the procedures have changed sooo much. Getting transcripts, a resume, letter of application and letters of recommendation together after all that time has become a real project. But everything will be ready to go out by Monday. Finally. Then it is out of my hands. If I get the job, fine; if I don't fine.
Mcreal-- my mind must be turning to mush, I don't understand why adding new debt to your BoA CC will help your paydown faster. When I was in that situation all payments, no matter how many per month, were applied to the charges first and only any over the minimum in each payment went to the higher rate charges. I ended up not charging anything new to that card so my lower rate charges would shrink rapidly and the over payment to the higher cost debt grew faster. I don't understand how charging more will reduce the debt faster.
AZmom--I admire those of you who are brave enough to write a blog in the first place, let alone figure how to maneuverer through all the challenges.
Moneysquirrel-- I, too, decided to reread the previous books before starting the last on the series. I'm ready to start The Stones of Home then in to the new one.
Dakota-- that is a darling cake. Made me want something sweet so bad I ended up slicing off a dozen cookies (lemon shortbread) to bake up to stop my cravings.
Shanen--I think a thread to help those of us trying to figure a way through the maze of computer usage is a great idea.

Update: 12 NS and 6 CS days SES -- you are way ahead of me. I am in the middle of the first one. I hope that now that I have a few days away from school that I will at least finish it and be almost at the end of the second one. It has been years so I am enjoying becoming reacquainted with the characters. Of course I do have some school planning to do since the end of the year is fast appoaching and I have to think about finals and exam info to post for the kids. dakota -- Love the cake. I am sure that mini-D was so excited. Have a few days off of school. Really excited that I will not have to leave the house early for a few days. I do have several things that I have been putting off that have to be done but on the whole looking for a relaxing few days,

hi all! i know it's been awhile so i figured i'd stop by and say hello. i've been super busy getting acclimated to my new job (which i totally love). i've been doing a good job keeping spending under control but i'm struggling with finally having enough money to meet all our needs and a good portion of our wants. financially security and stability is not something i'm used to.
now, having said that, i'm ridiculously excited for our overnight trip to baltimore this weekend sans child (in-laws are watching her). we're going to the rush concert tomorrow night and then having brunch either in the inner harbor or fells point on saturday (our anniversary--7 years--is on sunday, which is easter, so we're celebrating a little early). the best part--it's all paid for in cash! we were even able to use our government employee discount on the hotel room and saved over $120!
hope you all are doing well--looks like i have have a lot of catching up to do.

Okay all, I need to get on this wagon again. I've kind of been floating by the last couple months. The CC bill for this month was my wake up call. The previous bill had our new fridge on it and this month's was higher! There were a few planned for irregular expenses (AC maintanance, 6 months of car insurance and zoo membership), but all of those added together were $500 less than the fridge, so why the heck was our CC bill so high. Lots of little things. 2 weekend trips (gas and food (I prepaid the hotels)), consignment sales and a lot of eating out. So I really need to buckle down and get this under control. I was planning on sending our small tax refund to the vacation fund for this summers week long trip, but now it is going to pay for the CC bill.
Thanks for the compliments on the cake. I have a lot of fun making them. Tonight we are baking cookies for church.
What book series are you guys talking about? I'm looking for something new to read.
MrsLynch- Enjoy your weekend away.

Update: 11 CS + 7 NS = 18 of 26, 7 of 12 MOANs We had an amazing dinner out with friends last night (planned, so a CSD). We talked about dogs and books and computer games and food. It was a truly lovely evening, and I am so blessed to have these people in my life. Today should be an NSD and if I get my act together, a MOAN. My bum knee is still bugging me a little, but I have a soft brace that I can put on for added support, which is what I should do. I am tempted, instead of the Wii to get half the side yard mowed tonight (its huge and generally takes more than one full battery charge of the mower to get it all done). We have a majorly busy weekend (for us) coming up, so it wouldn't hurt to be a little ahead on the chores, especially if the weather is nice today. I can never be certain that it won't be raining on the weekend.
mrsl: Glad you are enjoying the new job. Enjoy the extra and treat yourself for a little while. You deserve it. Then sit down and make sure you're fully funding retirement accounts, college savings, etc.
ses:Good luck on the job front.
Has anyone heard from sharing? I know that for our first little bit on the new boards she was on vacation with her family, but its been a while. Just hoping everything is going all right with her and her DDs.

at one point this morning I looked at the calendar and thought "It's Thursday?"
I'm finally getting work done since I got plenty of sleep last night but now watching Dr Who on streaming video while I send emails.
Got rid of some stuff this morning like old trash cans, empty soap dispensers and old citronella candles. Since my friend E just bought a house I'm helping decorate and get the basics covered. I think we're going out on Saturday to do some shopping too.
Today should be a NSD since I have food in the fridge and so much work around the house to catch up on. laundry. dishes. sweeping. mowing the lawn.

Update: 11 CS + 8 NS = 19 of 26, 8 of 12 MOANsI'd been plannig on heading over to a local convention this Saturday, but looking at their schedule, my schedule, and everything else, I think I'm going to save money and just have some time at home on Saturday morning before we go over to a friend's house for a Passover dinner Saturday evening. We may do the dog park that afternoon, but I'm hoping to get an NSD and just have a nice quiet day. Sunday we'll be doing an Easter dinner with other friends while watching Game of Thrones. (Its a lovely mix, just lovely ) I did mow the side yard yesterday, so I got a MOAN in as well. startsmart: Yat for sleep and finally feeling better.

Doing pretty well on the NS front- but I haven't been keeping very good track of my number. I am still losing weight though. Slow and steady is the name of the game. Down 31 lbs as of this am. That's less than 1lb shy of a 2 lb/week average which was my goal. Driving up to see my grandma and my cousins tomorrow. There are 16 grandkids (12 of them will be there this weekend) and 17 1/2 great grandkids (16 1/2 of them will be there this weekend). So it should be a lot of fun. DH is staying behind to do some work in the yard. We bought about 30 hedge trees from the water conservation district back in January and they were delivered yesterday. DH is gone all next week for training. So we get to save on kennel fees and leave him home with the puppy and to do lots of work ;D MK-- Sorry DS#1 is still sick. Poor kid. Hope he is feeling better soon

If you're like me and need to get your coffee on: Starbucks has free tea or coffee when you bring in a travel mug today for Earth Day I need coffee. New Girl is not so great for my stress level. Called and texted this morning so I could reschedule an appointment that was 15 min away because she was "busy" .... .... AND I'M NOT? Jeeze, this is your JOB and you're STILL not doing it! I am not YOUR assistant. I need coffee. Yes, I am finally sleeping better which means going to bed at 8 something, lying there until midnight and then sleeping 7-8 hours. Better than the previous plan which had me falling asleep at 2am and up at 7am. Tomorrow: antique mall with E and I would like to spend a few hours cleaning. That will entirely depend on my workload and how much energy I have. Friends, what are you doing this weekend?

I am pulling out stuff, repacking, putting it away and cleaning- all weekend long. I don't know if they are doing my reinspect Wednesday, Thursday- or waiting until next week- because they only have to give me 24 hours notice for the recheck. Aye yi yi.
Need coffee- or hard liquor.
Or a man....

I am working everyday until Tuesday which is my only day off next week. They hired one person but she can't lift, bend, or stand long on her feet. WTF, neither can I but I do it and take pain pills to get through it. I have stock in Advil, Tylenol, and Aleve, depending on the severity of the pain. If it is a little ache, nothing, some pain, Tylenol, a lot of pain Advil. And If I can't sleep because of the pain, Aleve. One of the people have degenerative disc disease and is on leave but hopes to be back on Sunday, but only for 4 hours a day. That will be a great help because she can do the food service, hoagies pizzas and other things which will leave the other people to do the other things. Happy Easter all.

Happy Easter/Passover/Spring everyone! (It is spring - right?)
The CS are doing well, NS so not hot and MOANs are tough but I'm counting PT so something will show up (anything resulting in as much pain as PT has to count for something).
Quick question - I know some of you have blenders and do ice drinks (startsmart!) - any recommendations on a good one that will work well for smoothies? I'm not as concerned about price (I can usually find a coupon/discount/deal) although obviously not something crazy expensive.
Thanks and hang in there everyone!

Spruby - I like the bullet style blenders for doing drinks. I feel like they get the ice and stuff smoother than a traditional blender does. I also like that it's a much smaller clean up than a traditional blender. Plus mine came with the rings to cover the screw top and even travel-mug style tops so I can take it with me without spilling! Margarita for one, anyone? (Not to go, of course!)
Today I MUST hunker down and sew! Costumes are due Monday and I'm embarassed to say that I still have way too much to do on them. In my defence though, I begged and pleaded for an assistant or second costumer for this production and never got the help I asked for. The director had the nerve to get snippy with me about the costumes not being done yet last week and not returning a phone call. I pointedly reminded him that he set the due date for the costumes weeks ago and if he wanted them done sooner he needed to actually TELL me that. As for calling me, he knows better... I almost never answer my phone. Pish, if I'm not done on Monday, they can go fly a kite. He can try working two jobs, moving and costuming a huge production all by himself!

My blender has an ice crusher, so I don't have to worry too much about ice- but I also own most every kitchen appliance known to man. mk- You are absolutely right- liquor is much less trouble than men most of the time. I am exhausted- this project at my DGMs is kicking my butt, DM is sick- she is bleeding and we don't know why, and my brother is acting like a jerk (ok, so that's not any different). If something happens to my DM, my DGM will have to make the decision to either kick DB out so I can move home (I will not live in the same house with him because he has violent tendencies) or move into the nursing home- since she can't live on her own.

Talked to my Mom early this morning since she gets worried if I don't answer my phone (in my purse on silent oops) and assumes I'm dead. I've spent most of the weekend scanning old bills, cleaning up my online files and watching movies in my office. Nothing makes big scanning projects go faster like Beauty and the Beast ;D
Chatting with my mentor this afternoon then out to visit with sbcaligirl

Update: 12 CS + 9 NS = 21 of 26. 8 of 12 MOAN I'm tempted to give myself at least one more MOAN - we went to dog parks on both Friday and Saturday. It certainly wore out my two puppies, and we got quite a bit of walking in, too.
In order to make my NS goal of 12, I'm going to have to not spend Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesday night I have to swing by the store and pick some stuff up for a pot luck and for my admin for Admin day on Wednesday. DH will also be getting gas that night. Friday we'll be going out to a big dinner with friends, which means Saturday will be grocery shopping.
Had a good weekend. We attended a Seder on Saturday evening with friends and then did a small Easter dinner on Sunday prior to watching Game of Thrones.
jumpin: WELCOME! (or welcome back). Did you use another name over at the MSN boards? MK does her best to keep track of everyone and their numbers, so if you've been part of our merry little band before, it would be nice to tie your new user name to your old one. If you haven't been her before, let us know and we'll try to answer any questions you may or may not have. And feel free to jump in the conversation. We're always happy to hear one more view point.

Happy Easter/Passover or springtime everyone! Had a good Easter weekend for the most part (Only 1 NS, but 3 NEO's). MK- Glad DS1 is feeling better Blenders- I have my grandma's oster blender from the late 60's, so I really can't help you much. I love that thing it really is indestructible. I killed several modern blenders making margaritas and daiquiris, but this one just keeps going. It is all metal and glass, no plastic. VENT- DH got on my nerves a bit. It seems like every time we go to one of my family functions he has a litany of complaints afterwards. Yesterday it just really got to me. And I got more po'd when I asked him to watch mini-d and he went to change clothes, so while I was trying to make a dish to take to his parents, I had to keep distracting mini-D from wanting to open bubbles and sidewalk chalk. Then he decided it was a good idea to ask me what was wrong in a room full of people at his parents house. I just gave him a look and said "really you want to discuss it right now in front of everyone?" He backed off pretty quickly. We don't fight often and really try not to in front of mini-D. Plus it gives me time to cool off and not say the first thing that pops into my head. (Like your family has some real doozies in it. And expound on a list of things that drive me nuts about his family.) He said he didn't realize that it bothered me when he talked about my family I told him if it something that can be changed by all means discuss it, if it is just the way we function suck it up and put on your big boy pants. Yesterday it was that my SIL told my DB to stop trying to make their kids behave like adults and let them have fun. She had a very valid point, probably not said in the best way and shouldn't have been said in front of the kids, but still a valid point. I told him that there are things that his family does that make me want to climb the walls, but I realize it is the way they are and I deal with it, because complaining to him about it won't change it. He seemed shocked and asked what some of them were. So I told him that it drives me nuts that his dad thinks it is okay to pass gas and burp in a room full of people and makes no effort to leave the room or say excuse me when he does. Then he realized what I was talking about things that we can't change. I think it ended up being a good talk overall.
