I'm pretty sure they're aware the Republicans are in charge. Are the Republicans aware, though? Because they don't seem to be getting much done with their surplus of power. If someone called a meeting with me, purportedly to come to an agreement on an issue that will affect us both, and then sent something like that out to the entire organization (not even the entire public, as here), I'm not sure I'd show up either. What's the point? And so Chuck and Nancy are the big babies in this situation?

Can you quote the part of the article where it says the dems are in total denial of the fact the Republicans are in charge right now? I couldn't find it.
The article I read, the one you linked, said that public opinion could shift against the Dems even though the dems are holding out to protect a popular program. That no matter how popular the program is, the public really hates government shut downs, and if the dems appear to be resisting working across the aisle, they'll get blamed.
Maybe you read a different article?

Nope. Guilty of placing my thoughts on the subject. the title is the dems decided to not show up, and I SURMISED they are in total; denial, or as is also know as Trump derangement syndrome. They might want to rethink their approach that they stole from the Republicans circa 2008.

to meet with the President because they said he said bad things about them. ... Always love the spin. "... they said he said ...". Actually, the Trump tweet exists that created the conditions for a canceling of the meeting.

Yep I caught that at the end of the day, Ryan and McConnell bad mouthing the dems for "not showing up" to meet with POTUS and them. It was very poor form IMO of Ryan & McConnell to do that.
I think the lines are being drawn for a shutdown. No hurricanes on the horizon (I think that was the main reason Trump caved soo quick last time). Trump has already said "we can use a good shutdown" (or something like that).

Not only adult but people who can finally compromise and get things done. So far this year the only compromise from the democrats has been "here is what we want. Take it or we vote no". That is not compromise For 8 years the GOP said they wouldn't support anything from Obama. Never mind if it was a compromise or something they could discuss. Just no never mind.

The Republicans control both Houses of Congress, as well as the Presidency. If there is a shutdown come December 8 they get the blame. This is why McConnell and Ryan were so frustrated when Trump made the previous budget "deal" with the Dems. It set this potential scenario up, and they recognized that. It gave the Dems more negotiating power come December. Of course it went right over the head of the artsy deal guy there! The one freaking time Trump shows some negotiation with Democrats and you slam him for it. Look who is the real hard line partisan on the board is.

I thought the article was good. Shutting down the government over DACA is a high risk strategy for the Democrats. It's unlikely to hurt Trump because he can blame the Democrats, who have to appease members of their own party who want a hard line against Trump. I think the government shutting down will only hurt the Pubs. As someone mentioned before, they are fully in charge right now, and still can't get a damn thing done. They can't blame this on anyone but themselves.

... They can't blame this on anyone but themselves. They can and they will if it happens. The question is will the American voter go along with it.

I agree with the premise of the opinion piece that missing the meeting was bad optics for democrats. It gives the impression that 1. Democrats are too delicate to meet with the president because he said mean things about them. 2. Democrats are not willing to reach bipartisan agreements, something the American people want. 3. Democrats are not above the petty Trump twitter fray. They lose their moral high ground.

I disagree.
on your point 1)- It's not that the President said mean things about them, but more of the fact POTUS said "I don't see a deal" BEFORE the actual meeting
on your point 2)- How do you know until they actually have a meeting?
on your point 3)- So you think democrats should IGNORE official White House communications? (that's what Trump's tweets are BTW)

In the 2013 shutdown, republicans only controlled the house. We were told that republicans would take the blame for it because they were the minority party and engaging in obstructionism.
Now democrats are the minority party and engaging in obstructionism but they won't be blamed because Trump.
So no matter what happens it's always the republicans fault when there's a breakdown in negotiations that result in a shutdown. Biased much?
