I went and bought a torte for dessert. Remember those commercials where the woman throws flour all over herself before she leaves the kitchen?
That will be me.
No shame.

I am doing it all, and most of it's done:
Turkey (inside cavity has orange, lemon, onion and fresh herbs, outside is butter, salt, pepper and jerk seasoning) Sweet potato casserole (no marshmallows!) Stuffing (with onion, apple and celery) Baked ziti (old family tradition; we're not Italian, and it's a long story) - 2 kinds: one with sausage and meatball and one meat-free for the vegans Green bean casserole (the classic kind) Mixed green salad] Potato latkes (we don't see each other on Hanukkah, so I make them now) with applesauce Gravy Cranberry sauce (the whole berry homemade kind and the canned abomination)
Desserts are pumpkin pie, vegan chocolate brownies (which turned out to be pretty good) and a marble pound cake.
No appetizers, since our meal is around noon this year (my niece is working retail and has to be at work at 6 p.m.)

Thanks, I will probably try it at some point, but I am required to make "Aunt M" rolls now. I did them at Easter and everyone was all happy and said they were just like hers. And they also want enough to take some home. Good thing it's already a big recipe and that I love my sisters. Is there a recipe for the 'Aunt M' rolls, or is it a family secret?

We always did potluck at someone else's house, and I made that so I'd have an option if they screwed up the turkey.

It's probably just an average yeast dough, I don't have it memorized to share today though. All I can remember is 7 cups of flour and that there's an egg in it because I helped DS make some dough the other night and we almost forgot the egg. I'll share when I get a chance this weekend.

Chicken, potatoes, baked beans, asparagus, puréed squash, sons annual box of stove top... I have a box of Stove Top stuffing in my pantry right now. My brother absolutely loves the stuffing my mom makes for the turkey every year, I am not a fan. She puts wild rice in it, which ruins the texture and taste for me. I'm perfectly fine with Stove Top, no need to get fancy.

I don’t eat bread, but it’s just one of those things... maybe the thing that says ‘thanksgiving’ to him

Aunt M also used Stove Top, to mix into her cornbread dressing. When I try that it'll probably be all wrong but I'm not in charge of that this year.

Thanksgiving seems like such a long time ago! It was October 9th.
I missed out because I had to work. I did get a care package from my sister.

BTW, does cronewitch still post on here? I'm kind of surprised not to see a post from her on here about what she and ISO are doing for Thanksgiving.

I went and bought a torte for dessert. Remember those commercials where the woman throws flour all over herself before she leaves the kitchen? That will be me. No shame. Why shouldn't you buy dessert if that works for you? I love baking, but if it wasn't in the cards for that particular holiday I wouldn't feel at all guilty for buying something. Lots of people out today buying pies, cakes, and tortes.

I bought a torte as well and now you tell me I have to throw flour over myself? Woman, I have no flour in the house. Will cornstarch do? No way will I go out again to buy flour

I made stuffing, sweet potato casserole. cheese corn, cranberry sauce and three different pies. I'll make the brussel sprouts tomorrow before we leave.

I bought a pumpkin pie for my co-worker for tomorrow night and a cherry pie for me. She is bringing me Thanksgiving leftovers for dinner since Burger King will be closed. I'm also bringing the can of cranberry sauce.
I brought in a chocolate cream pie for tonight's coworkers.

I'm baking two pies from scratch (including baking the pumpkin). One is a new recipe for a chocolate pie, and the other one is a pumpkin recipe I've used for years. Although, crap, I just realized I forgot the orange zest and the pumpkin pie is already in the oven! Oh, well...
I think I'm baking sweet potatoes too, with butter and brown sugar.
ETA: As with all my pies that use a regular crust, I used Pepperdoo's crust recipe again this year, and prepared four ziplock bags of the dry ingredients for my own prepared mix to use later.

She tried a new recipe (only one or two things different) one year, and we could all tell. She went back to the old recipe. She also makes a ton so we can take them home with us. It's my favorite leftover, and I can eat several of them for days on end. I told her when she wants to be done, I can take over the rolls, but only if I get the "roll pan" (it belonged to my gramma).

I just made spinach dip at my parents house. I forgot how much I hate this kitchen. but the dip turned out decent, so that's a win.

Going to have a nice glass of wine after all the non-baking I have done today. Gotta keep it real right?

Have the ham in the oven. We have to leave for SIL's around 9:30 so I just need to heat it up.

ISO was coming up but lost his wallet. The post office called saying they had it but his money is gone. He suspended his debit and credit cards but they were in the wallet where they belong so he unsuspended them. I told him to ask for them to be replaced anyhow since they can be used online. So now he is stressed and probably won't come. I am going to my brother's house, I let them know he probably won't. Maybe he will tomorrow, traffic is a mess so maybe he shouldn't.

We are getting ready to go to DIL's house. The roulage is in the freezer. I haven't made it in 15 years, but she requested it. I couldn't find my recipe so I used the Food Netword Star's version. She is from this area. It has bourbon in it, which I discovered I don't really like that much. But that was just the whipped cream. Maybe the cake is sweet enough that it counteracts the bourbon. The kiddos are getting cupcakes from Publix. I hope the adults don't end up fighting them for them.

A sweet friend of mine is in charge of bread and rolls this year for her family's Thanksgiving dinner. She messaged me for help. I sent her the rolls recipe I posted on here in the recipes forum. She sent me snaps every step of the way as she was going through the process last night. (She made the dough and put the rolls in the fridge, she'll take them to her father's and bake them this afternoon.) She was so excited when the dough was rising, made a movie of her punching it down. She's having a good time. She also proudly sent me pics of the garlic butter she made.

I'll be heading to my parents' place in a little bit. We're going to an assisted living facility where my great-aunt is in the memory unit. She doesn't remember who I am, but that's okay, I remember her. The interesting thing is that her personality is exactly the same, the staff there loves her, thinks she's hilarious. We'll be there for her Thanksgiving meal, then we head out to the boonies where my brother is hosting Thanksgiving.

Turkey breast with stuffing Mashed potatoes Green bean casserole (the gross 50s version that I love) Cornbread or possibly pretzel rolls or homemade bread; undecided Salad Apple pie Pumpkin pie Custard It's just the three of this, and DH and I are pretty much orthogonal-we'll both eat mashed potatoes, whatever bread and salad and that's it. I'm hopeful that DS will help out this year...he seems very excited about the pumpkin pie

Local Cajun meat market has boneless chickens stuffed with all sorts of crazy good stuff. This year we chose the one with rice and crawfish. 1.25 hours @ 375 degrees which gave me time to saute Brussels sprouts with bacon and shallots. We got a pumpkin pie from the grocery store which was pretty tasty. No fuss and perfect for 2.
