MIL flew in yesterday and gleefully announced that she won't be moving after all. She stated that it's too much work to get the house ready for sale and to move. Instead she's just going to leave it all for us to deal with.
Yep, she's not a nice person.
The real reason I believe is that she's hit a reality check with her caregiver. While she is visiting she is paying her caregiver to stay at her house. Sounds like the caregiver is charging her for 24 hours a day to watch the three dogs. I'm sure this is not what MIL thought. She believes that living at her house is such a step up for the caregiver that the caregiver should be grateful to stay at her house for free. I think it's dawned on MIL that if she wants the caregiver to move in MIL will have to pay the caregiver 24/7 + caregiver's SO 24/7. MIL's LTC insurance is good but not that good. MIL is too cheap to pay that out of her own pocket.
Crisis solved for now. Stay tuned for the next installment.
ETA: Wish me patience over the next six days. It's going to a trying next week. Thank God there's

Oh my. Has caretaker moved in to MIL's house? Just for Thanksgiving while MIL is visiting us at the cabin in So. California.
This has been a great wake up call for MIL in terms of expectations. She was sure that Caregiver would be thrilled to move in to MIL's new house and pay her at least for utilities.
Proud of myself for bringing up with MIL about what are the other party's "expectations".
But of course MIL has to turn around this latest visit on how much it's costing her out of pocket to visit. She's claiming $1,800 so it's our job to visit her.
We think this will be the last time she visits the cabin. Too much work, too much drama.

For you and DH, it's probably best if she doesn't visit the cabin. You need your sanity.
