I have mixed emotions about this.
It was a different attitude back when they, me, and even most of the younger posters here were growing up.
Don't get me wrong, I agree it is wrong under today's standards.
Unfortunately men over say, 25 years old were raised to a different role model standard. You were not man enough if you did not pursue females if not in a relationship and make the "first move".
Today, if you make a first move, you are the aggressor. Have any of us not had relationships where either the female or male person was the aggressive person, who may or may not have been shot down by the person? And yet today, if that person says nothing due to embarrassment, or not able to comprehend it is an innocent but not appreciated approach that they are interested in you sexually, twenty years later you are called a pervert.
 
I can imagine homosexual males/females can be typecast as fitting that demographic (sexually aggressive, predator) towards other male/female homosexuals too.
Today, we have young females who are very openly aggressive towards their male counterparts.
We all know it happens. Social media sites are full of examples.
Sometimes, I think we feel Mother nature's hormonal urges are now a bad thing when discussing the dance of the sexes. 
I had a 65 year old in-law who is widowed, in a bar with family members who saw a male she had not seen in decades. She was standing there talking to him and said, "I think I want to kiss you", and laid it on him.
Afterwards she was embarrassed and said "I do not know why I did that". Still the man did not ask for the kiss and had no idea she would follow through. 
Is this okay under today's standards? Some women are now coming forward knocking men for "unwanted kisses" and it is a headline, how mistreated they were.
I am in no way talking about abusive groping, cornering women in a hallway, masturbating in front of others, etc.......

I post this because it is a very well regarded study into the human psyche.   I think it is relevant when you get into the debate of "willingness".

People in positions of power like the President or a movie producer can destroy people's careers.   There is also quite likely a lot of pressure to get on with it because it's become something that is expected.  That's what X had to do to get ahead that's what Y had to do to get ahead what makes you think you are so special that you don't need to? Misery loves company and all that.

We're programmed to want to belong, we are programmed to respect our leaders.   People who are predators are experts at taking advantage of that.

It's only later when you have time for your frontal lobe to catch up that you start thinking about what happened was wrong.

This also plays into reporting because human beings want to belong and have a strong urge to not upset the status quo.  If every other Hollywood starlet has slept with the producer we're not going to want to become a social pariah by refusing.


Human beings are not good risk takers, we don't want to go out on a limb to find ourselves the only one there.  We want to be supported and believed.  If you got 99% of starlets saying it'swhat you need to to do get ahead you're much less likely to refuse or report it because that will make you a social pariah.   Once one person stands up and is believed then it's much more likely others will follow.

In the court of public opinion though it's all too little too late.   Human beings also have the very bad habit of basing judgement on what our brains think we would do in the same situation.  Problem is it's all hypothetical.  We have no idea how we'd actually respond till we're in it.

A lot of this can be combated by bringing the topics out of the shadows, by providing training on sexual harassment and drilling home the chain of command to report it.   Those things get absorbed into our psyche just as much as everything else.   Once they are absorbed they become an unconcious response just like everything else.

Here is an example of suggestive sexual "whatever" since it is a female making a comment to another female in jest. Quite frankly, I do not know Katie Perry's sexual orientation, so, I cannot say this is female to female intimidation........

Actually...on this topic..there is so much more to say...being a senior, and one who has not lived a sheltered life...so much has changed say in the last 50 years...which for me seems like yesterday and if I put my mind to it..I can remember clearly  where as what I ate yesterday I have to think about...especially in dealing with opposite sex...plus social attitudes...

Looks like he was either ignored by bosses at ABC, or was asked, or was relieved of job without any public comment, and yet,  by all accounts he has led a good life since then by any account available, and now he is literally sent out on an ice flow out into the Artic sea to perish for his sins. Every present company he had a money earning relationship has cut him off. 
Why have publishing companies, movie production companies, record producing companies, and so on, not been destroyed and dismantled by public opinion police by now? 
Hugh Hefner just died and he was not destroyed by media for his magazine promoting a basically one sided view of the opposite sex, until it's latter years when the magazine was in decline. Upon his death should they not have buried him in disgrace for his vision back in the fifties and sixties?
If these social media companies did not exist, the writers, actors, and singers would not have an outlet to display their poor living styles....
Sex, drug, and rock and roll........is it dead or not?
No because the political correct among us still practice and want it! Just people who did these things and were outed are now demonized.
I imagine the way Hollywood is now being exposed we will have to settle for public broadcasting shows from Canada and Great Britain in our near future!

I think the difference you're missing is the willingness of both partners.

Hugh Hefner ran an empire based on sex and beautiful women. Some women willingly went to work as bunnies at his clubs, and posed for his magazine, in order to earn money. If you didn't want to participate in that kind of enterprise, you didn't go to work at his club, or pose for his magazine. There was no coercion.

I haven't read much about Halperin, but I know Weinstein preyed on young actresses who wanted to work in his films. This was literally the old Hollywood casting couch. If you are in a position of power and you require less powerful people to have sex with you in order to keep (or get) a job, that's wrong.

The problem comes in when it isn't that clear what happened. Cosby drugged his victims so that he could have sex with them, so that's pretty clear. But Spacey apparently met this 14 year old when he was 26 and drunk. Did this happen at a cast party where everyone was drunk? Did Spacey threaten the boy or withhold giving him a job unless the kid slept with him? Or was he just a stupid drunk who came on to someone (which is not uncommon when you're 26, of either sex.)

As a rule of thumb, there shouldn't be sex or discussions about sex at work, where one person might be in a position of power over the other. If people just stuck to that one rule, a lot of these kinds of issues would be avoided.

I was at a local pub watching the World Series last night and a rather attractive older woman who I had never met before came in and started touching me and saying all kinds of sexual things. Her daughter and her daughters boyfriend were apologizing over and over to me about her behavior. Nowadays I see woman doing this just as much as men, a lot more than even 15 years ago.

Could have went one of three ways, I could have went for a sexual harassment charge, simply left, or gotten a phone number.
