I keep thinking of the classic movie Mr. Smith goes to Washington. Starred Jimmy Stewart as an honest young man who had no clue of the dirty politics that went on. He thought he did, but he didn't.
He too, went to D.C. to make a difference. As has Trump.
He soon was being set up by the powers that be for failure. Trump soon was being set up for failure by the powers that be
Only difference is Stewart was a likeable person. Trump not so much, but both believed in draining the swamp.....
Does our hero succeed or does the evil Democratic political machine prevail? Stay tuned to see how this epic adventure turns out!

I remember that film....wasn't he involved with kids,,,camps....something like boy scouts...similer which means being truthful is important ...something our Donald thinks is something only weak people get involved in...He has made a Presidents utterences as a laughing joke...not just in the states...believe some foreign papers have a daily column that starts off with something like.. "You won't believe his Tweet today..." they aren't evening identifying who is the one tweeting..it is a known quality....[sad]

Donald Trump is possibly the most fundamentally dishonest and most self-aggrandizing person in the country, and he is setting himself up for failure by turning the swamp into a cesspool. The only real similarity to Jimmy Stewart's character is the cluelessness.

thestake.org/2016/11/28/is-it-really-a-wonderful-life/
There’s a detail at the end of It’s A Wonderful Life that’s easy to overlook but is crucial to understanding Frank Capra’s vision of American capitalism and politics: Mr. Potter, the evil banker trying to destroy George Bailey and the Building and Loan, gets to keep George’s money.
The uplift that comes in the end of It’s A Wonderful Life is purely familial and spiritual. The Bailey family is surrounded by the people who care for them–the poor, immigrants, teachers–and together, the community scores a resounding moral victory. But it is not an economic victory.
But it’s hard to imagine that Capra overlooked the financial outcome, that the lost $8,000 that spirals George into despair and suicide remains Mr. Potter’s money to keep. Capra’s narrative doesn’t do any damage to Potter; on the contrary, he’s eight grand richer (today, that’s $99,000, for the record) and still the most powerful man in town. The Bailey’s will remain poor, and George, it seems, will stay and continue to work on behalf of the poor, while Mr. Potter continues his attempt to buy him out or destroy him.
Seventy years after It’s A Wonderful Life, we can predict a future for George Bailey’s fight against the big banks. The outlook doesn’t look good.

Unfortunately, the "swamp" has been a cesspool for many, many, many years. I'd like to see that change.

Of course it does end with a happy Christmas scene so some posters here hate it...... Remember, another Angel received their wings

I guess it is a case of winning the battle and losing the war. Does not mean we give up. Drain the swamp! There was an interesting science fiction show this year on television. Involves time travel, changing history and it's consequences of doing so. It involves a cartel involved since the country was formed, going back in time to strengthen their power with another team gong back to stop it, with a third team trying to restore history to save family members who were killed. Both sides seem to win a battle but neither side wins the actual war.

There is a pot of gold at the end of that rainbow in a way....Potter will probably be dead by the end of the next year...possible only his care keepers showing up as he is laid to rest...rest of the town just going along with their daily business...possible tavern owner springing for a round of drinks as the time for the buriel approaches...a toast of good riddence ...

I don't know about that...today that journal would get a great contract from some publisher...so good that it would later be sold for a movie ...both would go on to a lucrative speaking tour...possible Frodo would get a ghost writer to write a "sidekick" story...also movie rights...different angle...so many adventures they can get possible three movies out of story,,,,oops, they did that....ok , only one big one...

Of course it does end with a happy Christmas scene so some posters here hate it...... Remember, another Angel received their wings Capra sounds foreign, probably an immigrant or slave,no thanks. If you read the link I posted, you will find that Capra was indeed an immigrant from Italy. He did try to hide he was Italian as per the article, some Italians were lynched and killed prior to his arrival in America. The theme of many of his movies involved the little guy going against the power structures of the day and triumphing, at least a little.
As noted earlier. The banker in its a Wonderful Like not only gets his money and remains the richest man in town - the movie implies that will be the status quo. That George Bailey has only been energized to keep fighting on behalf of himself and his community. The ending implies he is unlikely to be more successful than he has been in the past

I immigrated to Florida once. It was a lot of fun, but it was a mistake. Thousands of people from the north east coast are moving down here monthly. Some of them are very happy selling their homes for a million dollars and buying twice the house here for half the price.

Thousands of people from the north east coast are moving down here monthly. Some of them are very happy selling their homes for a million dollars and buying twice the house here for half the price. No doubt. I see us spending some time in sunnier climes during the winter months in the next few years. If it is Florida I'm thinking Gulf coast. The Gold coast is just plain unattractive to me. They've built Lauderdale all the way to the Everglades now! Our plan would be only for a few months in the winter, so I could see us getting a seasonal rental, or maybe buying a regular house in a regular neighborhood, rather than a condo at the beach. Not sure what we'll do at this point though, it is a lifestyle change away..... I do know whenever we're down there I notice that "real" Floridians mention their native status like a rare bird among all of the transplants..... The gulf coast has sunsets which are much better than sunrises imo. Unfortunately the gulf water is usually very warm compared to the Atlantic side, plus you get regular waves on the Atlantic. Must make northeasterners feel more at home. Unfortunately even on the gulf side, it is built out to the east side of I 75 and builders advertise "on the gulf" when you are over an hour away with traffic, and not much public parking to find...... The builders advertise "Naples location" when in fact you are miles from anything in Naples that is the Naples you want to be in I will say on a sunny day sitting in a lounge chair melts your problems away. No need for a massage.....

Plus I think VB is in Indiana which is also wicked cheap compared to the mid-atlantic and new England states on the east coast.
Many of the very cool jobs are here on the East Coast, but there are things in Indiana like tirerack.com, Purdue, and the Indianapolis Speedway...

Do not forget we have the Indiana Dunes and great sunsets over the lake, and if no pollution coming from Chicago, sunset over the skyline miles in the distance! Did you know wild orchids grow in the dunes? Orchids. In Indiana.

Indiana has really made gains in manufacturing, I remember at the turn of the century nobody was looking to source anything there and now they come up all the time: www.chicagotribune.com/ct-sta-reeder-st-0409-20150408-story.html"Since March 2012, Indiana has added 39,000 manufacturing jobs, while Illinois has lost 2,500, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics."
