I haven't set foot in a theater to watch a movie in over 30 years. Anything I see is well after it would have been eligible for any award. Even if I cared about any award. I go to theater showings but my taste in all things is so plebeian I never see the nominated shows.

We have the Daytona 500 race on the southeast redneck coast, and the Academy Awards on the alt left west coast. Could we have a more obvious divided political country being represented by polar opposites on any given day, other than on election day? Maybe the problem is people who can't conceive its possible to like both.
I have friends in Illinois who love NASCAR, heck my former big Pharma employer backed a car and had it near the facility one day. I and my co-workers visited it too. I am interested in both. NASCAR is huge in allegedly liberal Madison Wisconsin and they drive like the race car lovers they are.
I'm curious. How do you feel about all the movies about NASCAR and car racing?

I have varied tastes, and back when my income supported it, I often saw about 80% of those contenders in most of the popular categories. Now sometimes I make notes on what to see because of the award shows. I'm listening to a Grammy nominees CD from the library right now. If I didn't have so many items out from the library I think I'd pick up Will Ferrell's movie riff on NASCAR and one of my faves - Speed Racer.

Now if this is the shape of the race track, with the overlapping portions being actual intersections, I could see the race getting interesting. Watch the contemporary Speed Racer movie. It and some video game courses are really quite cool.

A bunch of cars doing the same thing 200 times. Awarding people for a wide variety of doing things well including vastly different "best pictures". Daytona 500 Daytona International Speedway is 2.5 miles (4 km) long and a 500-mile race requires 200 laps to complete. However, the race is considered official after half its distance (100 laps and 250 miles (400 km)) has been completed.
BEST PICTURE Arrival Fences Hacksaw Ridge Hell or High Water Hidden Figures La La Land Lion Moonlight Manchester by the Sea Are these actual nominees? I haven't even heard of any of these, except for "La La Land", and I have no clue what that one's about. MSN had a poll on it's front page yesterday with Oscar choices. Over 50 percent of participants clicked on the choice "have not seen any", but only listed the top four or five choicees. Kind of scary number imo. LaLa Land paid homage to the golden years of song and dance in the movies, and was considered the front runner because it kissed Hollywood's feel good about us theme.

My wife and I still go to the movies occasionally. 90% of the reason is because she likes the popcorn. When she and my Mom are together, they use each other as an excuse to go to the movies and binge on popcorn. "Oh, it's not about the popcorn. We just haven't been to the movies in a while." The correct response is to smile and nod.

Great question. Never been to a live racing event other than Greyhound racing, so consider me an evil person watching the poor mistreated Greyhounds. I could go to the Tropicana race in Illinois, and Indy car Memorial day weekend (yes, I know that is not Nascar) but you would have to pay me to go and keep me in beer at no cost to me. Have watched Tom Cruise doing Nascar, thought it was pretty good, but I also liked the comedy with the old SNL actor making a mockery of the sport. We have not watched the Oscars since whats her name and daughter got dumped on the red carpet hours preceding the ceremony They made it almost bearable to stay and watch the ceremony, but people talk about Baseball and football games getting boring with the lengths.......The Oscars are now unbearable, and I do not want to see grown people crying over their win and the others making it a political show worthy of MSNBC primetime.

I saw a headline on a newspaper today "Oscars ends in chaos".
I'm not eager to dig through tabloid sites to figure out what that means. Any idea what it might be referring to?

Supposedly it's the only way theaters can afford to keep their doors open. Which, given your prices are pretty accurate, isn't hard to believe.

Google is your friend my man It's out there, but I think the Russians interfered in the envelope distribution, but Hollywood elites refuse to accuse of being hacked by the Russians. They blame some poor accounting shmo who handed the envelopes out rather than Admit Putin got to them Or maybe it was North Korea getting even with Hollywood one more time.

Virgil ShowlionPricewaterhouse gave the best winner actress envelope to warren beatty (winner of best actress already announced) instead of the best picture envelope as beatty was announcing the best picture winner. So beatty and faye dunaway, confused, announced LaLa Land as best picture when it was later discovered on stage in front of the audience Moonlight had actually won best picture.

It and some video game courses are really quite cool. I found a clip from the movie, but its after the good part so kind of too short to show the cool race track. There's a point in the race where his car seizes up and he needs to restart quickly in order to finish the race. His father in the stands, knows his only hope is to start the car in 5th gear, which is a non obvious solution but what the engineer who designed the car would know. His son, has to sense what to do with his understanding as a driver. The clip starts after he decides to try 5th gear and indeed the car starts.
Maybe you'll like the clip anyway or it will inspire you to rent the film.

The best driving film(race car driver) IMO. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Senna_(film)
Its a documentary using mostly archival footage. Its an exceptional movie and showcases a couple amazing drivers including Senna himself.

For a few dollars more, people now attend the over 21 theaters. Great seats and quieter.

I remember other media wars with the White House, Quote; " Until this point, the conflict had been mostly a one-sided affair, with Fox News hosts promoting tax day “tea parties” that focused protest on the new president, and more recently bringing down the presidential adviser Van Jones through rugged coverage that caught the administration, and other news organizations, off guard. During the health care debate, Fox News has put a megaphone to opponents, some of whom have advanced far-fetched theories about the impact of reform. And even farther out on the edge, the network’s most visible star of the moment, Glenn Beck, has said the president has “a deep-seated hatred for white people.”
Administration officials seemed to have decided that they had had enough.
“We’re going to treat them the way we would treat an opponent,” Anita Dunn, the White House communications director, said in an interview with The New York Times."
The whole media thing seems all so familiar these days. www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwjju7q887DSAhWM4yYKHeulCJYQFgggMAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nytimes.com%2F2009%2F10%2F18%2Fweekinreview%2F18davidcarr.html&usg=AFQjCNGhccMIEdP6l1BbTD4Dij6cpZExTw&bvm=bv.148073327,d.eWE Dioge... the fact is...and u know it is true..if u don't believe me I will go back and list all in order...our new President , he lies..purposely...and when caught out , which in todays world a juvenile could discover and prove..either blames the lie on others or refuses to admit to it even as it stares him in the face...he goes out of his way to embaress our long time allies..see Australia, Mexico...even a bit , Canada...all eleven asian allied nations...he's threatening everyone and seems surprised when the countries and their leaders stand up to him. Viewers? Sure......listen to a speech...like what they hear...agree with the words...go to sleep happy...wake up happy. Then there are a few who listen...happy that the Potus they don't support sounded Presidential finally even if have a few questions on the points raised in the speech. Then the next day a few of those fact checking articles come out.. [Saw three different ones on this speech of the Donalds} Took the time to read them all...to the end....have u done so? If so and u find still nothing wrong...then what can I say...I am guessing very few of those in favor of the speech have or will take the time to read those types of articles calling in questions the claims made... I was lied to years ago as many of us where..and ended up in a bad place, losing many friends to injuries or worse..doing stuff...so unlike u I don't believe outright these types of people anymore because too many do not tell the truth.. This one has become notoriouse with his questionable claims...your welcome to them with out questioning them...good luck with that.

I like going to the Dollar Cinema. Admission is $2.50 and all snacks are $1.
Many of the movies are only about a month old.

Like Obama speeches. i'm not sure what your suggesting....Obama is no longer President ..if u are trying to compare the deliverence and presentation of a Obama speech to one from the Donald, IMHO...there is no comparison. Obama is one of the great..great speech givers of out times...even those who disagree with his policies have praised his speeches...his speech at the nemorial service ..church people killed...then ending with Amazing Grace off the cuff...just thinking about it gives ne chills.. If u are suggesting that Obama purposly lied in his speeches as our Donald does...then please point them out..I will come down on him as hard as I do with the Donald..even though he is now out of office...If u show me a one or possible two claims that may have not played out but at the time was a possibility ..that is not what I am showing on the Donald. Are u just bringing up Obama for whatever? Did u read the artickle I put the link uo for u.. Really don't know what your referring about with your post "Like Obama Speeches "...u have me guessing here...

At least the Obama speeches were a reflection of the man that he is. The Trump speech was the total antithesis of Trump's personality. It was a joke.

A guy who refused to rent to blacks was blathering about civil rights.
He's waxing poetic about "national pride sweeping our nation", while more than half the population is embarrassed that he's POTUS.
"Draining the swamp of corruption" by installing billionaire lobbyists into leadership roles.
Whining about manufacturing jobs going overseas, while his own line of clothing, as well as Ivanka's, are made overseas. Then he has the nerve to whine about Nordstroms dropping Ivanka's line, which is made in Indonesia, China and Vietnam.
"Protect patients from unnecessary costs?" Please. His Big Pharma cronies talked him out of lowering costs for pharmaceuticals.
Funding for veterans? He doesn't give a crap abut veterans, and everyone knows it.
" We all bleed the same blood." Except if you're Muslim, of course.
"America is free." So free, that refugees are fleeing in droves, escaping into Canada.
The speech was bullshit piled up on top of other bullshit.
