I don't suffer from depression but I do have anger issues. I'm angry that there are so many people in this country who think voting for somebody who is nothing but a snake oil salesman is qualified to make decisions for all of us and is capable of running this great country. I'm also angry that so many people think undoing environmental protections and reversing protocols to protect our air, water, wild life, and oceans is making America great again. I can't figure out that kind of mind set. How is that better? I'm also frustrated that I can't understand the mindset of those that are watching this person during press conferences and the entire world is laughing at us, and most of us here are horrified, and some of you think it was the best speech in history. But I've come to the conclusion that I'm better for it that I don't understand it or think this way and that makes me very, very happy.

I think as long as Trump toes the party line in regards to things like the topic that can't be discussed here the Republican party is going to look the other way. I think it would take Trump doing a complete 180 again on certain social issues and not agreeing to pick strictly conservative candidates for things since as the Supreme Court before they would turn on him.
They are counting on getting A LOT of what they want in exchange for backing his horse. It may mean they can't sleep at night but the phrase "enemy of my enemy is my friend" exists for a reason.

A post came across my Facebook feed about how Melania said the Lord's Prayer before introducing her husband at some function, and wasn't that wonderful. I commented that it would be nice if Trump paid attention to what was said in that prayer.

I find it depressing that we seem to think that anyone who doesn't agree with us has to have some sort of mental or psychiatric deficiency. I find it depressing that people seem to think that if we are conservative, we agree with every conservative issue; and vice-versa. I find it depressing that we all try to one-up one another in saying how deranged one another is. I find it depressing that we can't have useful conversation because of all this nonsense. me too, which is why I want to slap the posters who start threads like this.
It's stupid.
I'm also beginning to think a few of them lack the capacity for complex, critical thought.
Obviously, the answer would be for people to just not post on these threads. There's always someone waiting in the wings to jump all over it - either in support or disagreement. Look at us! It will never happen, but it's the solution for at least here.

I'm depressed now after reading this thread. Which part do you find depressing?
It depresses me that we keep getting threads such as "democrats are," "liberals think" and "conservatives believe."
STOP TELLING EVERYONE HOW THEY THINK. HOW FUCKING HARD IS IT?
Yes, I know that as humans we want to assign everyone into little labeled boxes, but it doesnt' work that way.
Yeah, I love coming here and being told who I hate and how I feel.... Almost as if I can't think and decide for myself....

Trump promised to bring back American steel production, manufacturing and jobs. But he buys Chinese steel, his products are made overseas and his resorts hire foreign workers. There are Trump lemmings who believe everything he says. What's wrong with the GOP? Are they so afraid of him they won't do their job? Actually their job is to get reelected.

I'm in mourning. I'm in mourning for a country that isn't what I thought. For friends who aren't what I thought. For the collapse I see every day as growing more inevitable. Grief has stages, which are not linear. But I'm processing them. I'm guessing I'll be done before you understand what hit you... And here I am- fresh out of mourning because for a long time I was afraid you might be right. That America was on the fast track to third world banana republic status and there was no hope. There's still a very good chance- with all the new Obama debt, QE, and the stock market bubble-- to say nothing of the internal sabotage (deep state), OFA embedded terrorists, and foreign enemies eager to exploit our weakened position after eight years of Obama rot and decay on all fronts-- that you might get the California style shithole you so strongly desire. But at least there's a shot now for us "normals" of making America great again.

Some people might want to start investing in the stock markets and they might feel better. They will definitely have more money to donate to their charities that are out of gas and irrelevant. I am no expert on stocks, but based on P/E stocks are over valued right now, as they were when Obama left office. It's only gotten more so the last few weeks. It has been a nice ride, but I wouldn't expect it to continue to climb much longer. Agree wholeheartedly. I think the political risks for attaching the stock market bubble to Trump are fairly high, and in spite of the fact that Trump has correctly observed that it's one giant bubble-- he will be blamed because you cannot get the credit without getting the blame.

Not me. After seeing Nixon, I have some faith in our system. I am concerned, but should Trump over extend his authority and/ or go too cray cray, half the Republican caucus is already set to take him down. I am also concerned, because I think his foreign policy knowledge is limited, and his views in that regard are grossly simplistic. I also see an outsized influence by the military, and also some alt- right ideologues. Here he has some latitude to do some real damage. Domestically I think he is playing a sage and cunning game, and he is using press and publicity to keep everyone- and I mean everyone- off balance. But I think he is probably less harmful there, except to certain population segments. I am a Democrat. But I am not depressed. Of course I don't get depressed easily. It does no good. Dem, you are a survivor of Northern winters , are you not? Of course you don't get easily depressed. If you have to deal with snow on a seasonal basis, how could a light touch of "politics" steer you wrong?

Swamp, take a look at this, please.....
I'm sorry I don't have a link or an attribution -- this was on a friend's FB page.
"For you liberal snowflakes.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF JOE REPUBLICAN:
Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards. With his first swallow of coffee, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to insure their safety and that they work as advertised.
All but $20 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.
In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained. Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath.
The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air. He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.
Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union members fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union.
If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.
Its noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.
Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.
Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards. He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans. The house didn't have electricity until some big-government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification.
He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking, cheese-eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.
Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day.
Joe agrees: "We don't need those big-government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have.""

Google is your friend people. What? Trump wins and suddenly you can't follow board rules?
If anyone makes an argument based on what other people say, it is basically ...
dt --- it's what he does people. He doesn't listen to his intelligence people, or his own experts → only to what FOX news reports

I agree, and I don't think he will suddenly become a social progressive or try and appoint a liberal judge, because I don't think he cares one little bit about any of those issues. He doesn't care if gays can or cannot buy a wedding cake, or if there is or is not a wheelchair ramp in a school, or if people choose the topic that can not be discussed. I don't think he cares if women get paid less or the same, or if a prisoner is executed or not. I don't think he cares about any of that because I have yet to see any evidence that he cares at all about people, other than himself and maybe his kids. He doesn't care - liberal judges, conservative judges, whatever. As long as he can make business easy for him, his kids and his friends for the next decade or so - then he is good.
