OMG, you guys! I was looking at dogs online and I found Jackson's sister! I haven't called to confirm, but she's at the same shelter that I got him from. She looks exactly like him and has the same birth date. It has to be a sister! Somebody talk me off the ledge because I want to go get her and bring her home! All 7 in the litter were adopted out, but for some reason one of them came back. Look how cute she is! www.petfinder.com/petdetail/37565236

I almost ended up with triplet brothers because parting them would have been too hard.

Ha! Thing 2 was in the kitchen and all of a sudden, I heard her yell "ewwwwww!" Turns out Jackson walked in, farted, and walked out. Ha ha!

Two dogs will be easier than one. They'll totally entertain themselves and make your life easier. Honestly. Not lying a bit. 😇 Ok, maybe lying more than a bit. By the size of the herd that's weaseled their way into my home I'm clearly the wrong person to talk someone out of adopting pets. 😁

I didn't realize how much of a difference Little Dog was going to make in the life of the golden until he'd been here a few weeks. she has a playmate now, and they don't like being separated. at all.

does anyone else's dogs like fruit? I definitely just cut up this bowl today for the sole purpose of mixing in with their kibble.

I have a dog that will eat the blueberries off the bush when we go berry picking...and crap in the berry patch. 😡 She also loves watermelon and other melons. I used to have a dog that loved oranges.

grapes? never.. strawberries, blueberries, canteloupe, and this week I discovered, kiwi? absolutely. the golden also likes baby spinach and romaine.
Little Dog? he doesn't know what to do with anything crunchy. I don't think any of his past homes ever gave him any people food. that's probably not a bad thing.....but yeah.

So I emailed the lady at the shelter. She is in fact Jackson's sister. She is back at the shelter because the family had a toddler that was always up in her face and one day she bit the kid. I didn't ask for the extent of the injuries if any. She said that the family didn't want to bring her back, but they knew the kid would keep bothering her. I have to wonder how good they were taking care of her though because the lady said she was skinny and not up to date on her shots. She said she's nervous and thinks Jackson could bring her out of her shell. I worry about Jackson not wanting to share his house as he's super spoiled. I also don't have a big yard, so there's that. She would have to go to daycare and all the walks he does. I don't know if I could hang onto both at the same time. It may be a situation where I would have to take them both to the dog park instead (more than I already take Jackson) and let them run instead of trying to walk them. At the end of the day Jackson makes the final decision. If he won't tolerate her, it's not fair to her to not be welcome in the house.

So Thing 2 wants to go meet her. This likely means we'll come home with her if Jackson allows it. I don't need another dog, but she really deserves to have a good home where she will be loved and spoiled. Plus, it may be good for Jackson. So I may be complaining about Jackson and Macy before long.

Oh. And Jackson is a complete weirdo. I was watching a movie and he left the room and came back with a can of tomato sauce. WTF? I snapped a pic and sent it to Thing 1.

I walk my two together, with leads in the same hand always. I also put them both on prong collars, not because either of them are vicious, but because it adds a little layer of "oh shit, I shouldn't have done that...." on top of the leash. just stuff to consider.

Jackson is stands about waist high (keep in mind I'm 5' tall) and weighs 75 pounds. He's horrible about walking on a leash. I don't know about Macy. I thought about the prong collar, but it seemed like it would hurt him. Maybe I just need to talk to someone about them. I don't know enough about using them.

definitely talk to someone you trust about using prongs. if used correctly, they don't hurt the dog. they are a tool to reinforce the training you're already doing. in my case of walking the two together, it lets me actually walk 175lbs of dog by myself. the first quarter mile or so of any walk is spent pulling quick on the leashes to remind them they are to behave. the prongs mean that it's a quarter mile, and not two miles.
YMMV, but definitely talk to someone. a prong used for situations is not a bad thing.

If you don't want to go the prong collar route you might want to try a Halti gentle leader. It's basically a halter that goes on the head and attaches to their collar. If the dog tries to pull ahead, the Haltie cinches tight around the nose and pulls their head towards their chest making it difficult for them pull ahead of you.

Sweet! I'll have to ask at petsmart when I pick up Jackson from daycare. Something has to give. At this point he's walking me.

So I have to go to the prison to see Macy. It's so weird. I've never been inside one. When we got Jackson, I met the while litter at a vet appointment so I didn't have to go there.

Yep I had one of these for my last dog.
You can control a full grown Bull with a head collar..... so its not a bad idea at all.

Andi, as far as getting the dog to behave on the leash, try getting someone to train him. If you can't afford that, local dog groups offer how to train your dog classes. Good luck.

Thanks. There is a spay/neuter place here that I think does obedience training. I was going to sign Jackson up for obedience class, but then I found Macy. It's so expensive for one, let alone two. I can't pay $200/hour for private lessons and I don't know how well Macy will behave yet to take her out to group classes. I know I'll have to practically wrestle Jackson.

So, we got a dog last weekend. We figured our home life wasn't crazy enough yet so we needed to add something to it. She is cute, though, I have to give her that.
