Weekend went to plan, with one exception. I thought I had someone to take the bunk beds I'm getting rid of, but I was bad/slow at communication, so that person bought another set of beds, so I still need to get rid of the set I have before I can build the daybed I've ordered. I realized that I forgot to include on the list of planned spending Sunday Breakfast, for Sunday writing group, but that was always part of the plan, just me forgetting to write it down. And FYI, the new Thor movie is a comedy with some action. And it is fabulous.

Spent almost all of yesterday in bed not feeling well. Finished a book, watched some TV, and only left the house for my therapy appointment. Of course, while I was at my therapy appointment, the storm took out the power, so I did end up with an unplanned spend for dinner last night. I have a plan to go see Wonder with Pop Tart on Friday evening. Justice League is out this week, so might go see that with friends over the weekend (but not sure). Because of Friday Pop Tart plans, I will try to make swimming plans another day this weekend. Will depend on the pool schedule. But it should be a fairly quiet week.

Last night power was out at the house again (until around 1am), so another night of takeout. Bought lunch on campus today, and pre-purchased the tickets for the movie with Pop Tart on Friday.

Have been doing well. I did spend more than I wanted on grocery items but I do host Thanksgiving as well as being extremely low or out of several items that I consider to be basics. Avoiding most stores and hope to do so as much as possible in the near future. Not sure how well I will do on that front.
Wishing all a good Thanksgiving.

Last week finished pretty well. Still no swimming pass. But I keep it on here as a reminder that I want to do that. Only 1 Starbucks visit during the week. I used movie reward points for the snacks for the visit with Pop Tart. We did not go see Justice League this weekend (and probably won't see it for at least 2 weeks).

New week. New plan. I am going to the Monday Night Football game tonight. I have $24 in cash. My goal is not to spend more than that. I do plan on swinging by a drug store and buying a little hand towel today in order to have something to dry my seat with. I am going to see Howl's Moving Castle with friends next Monday, and bought my ticket today, so that I don't forget. On Wednesday, I will go pick up the gluten-free bread I am taking to Thanksgiving. We're planning on going to see Coco on Friday.
We're starting to run low on fish oil for the dogs, so I need to order some more of that.

Spent $23.50 at the Seahawks game last night. I did have unplanned spending of $6 for a poncho to take to the game in case the rain didn't let up. (It did, but now I have a poncho for next time I go to a game.) I also spent $10 to buy a box of Krispy Kreme's from a student group. That is my guaranteed weakness.
Guess what! Today I bought my swimming pass! Not for one of the places nearest me, but a place still fairly close had a Living Social deal for a 10 swim pass for $14. They also have evening lap swim every weeknight and Sunday mornings, all good times for me. I did use the money I saved vs what I would have paid at one of the closer places to buy a 10 class Yoga pass for one of the studios nearby, as well. I'm counting that all as planned, since it is all an investment in my health and well being, which was what the money was planned for.

Everything was going so well. And then the motor burned out on the washer on Thanksgiving morning. I spent $1200 on a new w/d on Thursday (30 months 0% APR on the JCP card, so I'll pay $45/month and have it paid off in time), and another $8 on laundromat to finish washing/drying the comforter that burned out the motor. Otherwise, last week went as planned.

Okay, today is a busy day. I bought the new mattresses and sheets for the new bed in Pop Tart's room (as my mom will be here and need to use it in less than a month). I took advantage of Cyber Monday sales. I am going out to dinner and a movie tonight. I bought the movie ticket last week. I have family court on Wednesday afternoon. I am going to try and get to CostCo that day, too, as we're almost out of dog food (to the point I'm not certain what we have will last until Saturday). I think we're going to try and go see Justice League this weekend. And it's possible I'll have a Pop Tart visit.
I am in the process of trying to sell the old bed - it all got taken apart and moved to the garage this weekend. Once that is gone, I'll need to clear a path big enough for the new w/d to get through (and the old ones to get out), which I think will involve selling the refrigerator that's in the garage, and probably donating one of the giant tvs in there (the one that actually belongs to me). I need to work with Pop Tart to decide what she wants me to do with her bike (she now has another one), and probably do a pretty major donation run of some of her old things, along with just throwing out a number of other things from her room (a billion old markers and other art supplies). I think we may need to do a run to get rid of the old mattresses from the bunk beds, so that may happen this weekend, if I can commandeer my roommate and her truck for a bit of time.

Now I have to think back over the last week and try to remember what I spent. I need to put Christmas shopping in my list of planned expenses over the next couple of weeks. But mostly, I think I stayed on track. We didn't go to the movies. I didn't do a run. Pop Tart visit was expensive (my choice) as we got her a new bracelet for her Pandora charms (the old bracelet barely fit around her wrist anymore). She was out of town over adoption day this year, and so this was her adoption day gift. (The bracelet and the first charms were originally gifts from my father and step-mother on adoption day.) However, I also did get her old bunk beds sold for cash - for about double what we spent at Pandora. I do need to get in a run this coming weekend in order to get rid of the old mattresses. I also need to start doing donation runs.
Also, with the exception of having to buy a new w/d, I stayed in plan this month. I am happy about that.

New month, new plan. I need to do a run this weekend to get rid of the two old mattresses. I need to buy tickets to the show we're going to see for my birthday (Newsies) and probably tickets for The Last Jedi this week. I have a little bit more Christmas shopping to do for Pop Tart, close friends, and my mother. We still haven't seen Justice League, so leaving a moving on my calendar for this week

shanendoah -- Keep up the good work. You are doing amazing. I have been on track and meeting my goals. Major expenses have been for the most part avoided -- needed work on the house has been completed except for a few relatively minor items that will wait until 2018. Christmas shopping is coming in below budget so far and I only have a few items left to get. Craft show season is coming to an end and I should have enough to pay for my future purchases in 2018 and maybe a little more. I am at the point now of only buy only those items that I need to get for specific projects. I have enough of the basics here at just finished several projects that have been done entirely with my stash. A few of them will make it to my Etsy shop which I do need to work on more regularly.

Thanks moneysquirrel I did hit the grocery store on Tuesday night, hoping I wouldn't have to go this weekend, but the store I went to didn't have parsnips, so I will have to go again.

Some things happened on Friday that threw the weekend into a realm of "that wasn't planned". I am good with it, especially since most of the unplanned spending was for gas. In addition, I have come down with something - my entire body aches - and that also threw things off. There was no movie. Roomie covered the run. My Sunday morning plans that included breakfast were cancelled and replaced. Due to not feeling well, I only went to one grocery store and not the two I needed to go to, but I think I can put that off until this weekend. I didn't get the Christmas spending done.

Okay, new week, new plan. It is going to be a busy week. Yesterday, I stayed home sick (still feel miserable - my entire body aches), but back at work today trying to get stuff done. I have a court date tomorrow, and while I'm there, need to get some legal fines paid that have to be paid in cash (money order/cashier's check). I also have Weight Watchers tomorrow, right above a TJ Maxx, where I hope to pop in and get a White Elephant gift for under $10. I have a counseling appointment on Thursday, and a massage scheduled on Friday. Saturday I have 5 hours worth of driving (there and back) for about 2.5 hours with C and a hair appointment. Sunday is a visit with Pop Tart (and likely buying her a pair of basketball shoes), and then we're going to see Last Jedi that evening. Tickets are already purchased, but there might be snacks. I've got to figure out a trip to CostCo in there (Friday post massage or Saturday post hair seem the likeliest). I still need to get Christmas gifts.

Plugging along. I went to the bank on Tuesday to get the cash for the legal fines that had to be paid on Wednesday. The bank is right next to a drug store, where I found a great White Elephant gift for tomorrow. Monday night, I got most of my Christmas shopping done - $150. I still have to get gifts for my BFF and her wife ($75 family museum membership) and roommate ($50 amazon gift card), and something for my mother, as she will be here for Christmas. I'll be at the mall on Sunday with Pop Tart and have her help me pick something out. Right now I'm at $275, so I've got $75 available for my mom's gift. We should be good. I got Starbucks this morning. I have my counseling copay this afternoon. I also realized I forgot to put my hair appointment on the list of planned spending. It is planned. It's been on the calendar for about 4 weeks. But, no lunch on campus this week, as tomorrow will be our potluck.

This has been a rough month for spending == finally got to Sams and needed a lot of items. I need to go more often so that the list will not be so long. Also property taxes and some insurance premiums were due. It is the beginning of the onslaught of big annual/semiannual insurance premiums -- most of which hit December - March. Then taxes appears. Always feel better once all of that is done and finished for the year. No idea what is in store for me as my annual income has dropped due to my retirement and how that will affect anything. Christmas items are done with one exception -- need one gift card which I will try to get today. And I listed two new items on Etsy and need to get a few other things up there. shanendoah -- Hope things are calming down for you. Wishing a better 2018 for you.

This is likely the last time I'll be here until after Christmas, as my mom flies in this afternoon and the next 5 days are pretty packed. I just bought my brother's Christmas gift. It will be shipped directly to him. I am meeting a friend who also works on campus for lunch.
Hope everyone here has a good Christmas if you celebrate, or otherwise, just a nice next week.

Still keeping my head up. A lot of the expensive annual bills are beginning to arrive. Property taxes, supplemental insurance premiums and one other insurance premium has been paid. Car insurance is on my CC and will be paid once I see it listed online -- used CC to get the points. January brings quarterly taxes, home insurance followed by flood insurance and then it is almost time to start figuring the federal and state taxes. Usually breathe a little easier after taxes but spend the rest of the year saving for the onslaught that begins again. Christmas gifts are purchased and wrapped. All have been within budget -- a little under. Thank goodness. Even got a few items that I needed. I think that I am stocked up on groceries for the time being and will only need to get perishables for a while. Trying to spend time with family and friends as their schedules permit. Had coffee with former co-workers several times this week. (Different groupings of people.) Spending time getting the house better organized and working on several beading projects as well as a crochet project. Trying to continue to get to the exercise class at least twice a week. MJ2.0 -- Welcome. I am not here as often as others but it does help you be aware of your money. Read the first page for more info.

Just stopping in to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas. Take time to appreciate your loved ones and to celebrate the reason for the season.
Take a break from the hustle and bustle to enjoy the holiday.
Things will be back to the normal too soon as it is.

For the most part, things went as planned over the last week. I did have a couple of unplanned expenses thanks to my Mom being around, but they weren't unnecessary, just unplanned. On Saturday I bought new windshield wipers. They were needed. And on Sunday, we did a CostCo run. I hadn't planned on CostCo this weekend, but there was something my mom wanted to look for for me, and since I was there, I just did my CostCo shopping (including 2 bags of dog food, which always pushes the bill up).

It is the last week of the year. And the year is nicely ending on a Sunday for me, since I do this plan Monday-Sunday. How great is that. All nice and neat and tied up with a bow, or something. It should be a very quiet week. I want to thank everyone here for being part of my life. You are my financial support group and this board is important to me. Next year I'm going to have to batten down the hatches a bit more in order to get all the 0% credit cards paid off on time, so I'll be back, and probably trying to figure out better ways to track.

I am still beating a dead horse on this thread, but I whole whole heartedly endorse the use of YNAB budget software to help keep spending in line.

Welcome MJ2.0. It will be nice to have someone else here every day. Sometimes right now, I feel a bit like this is the shanendoah show, and that that may discourage other people from posting. It is certainly not meant to be, but I also need to check in daily, and a lot of others don't.
TheOtherMe - You don't have to post your spending detail to be posting here. This is what works for me. I found that just counting no spend/controlled spend/spend days was not working for me, because I was putting off getting things I needed to have a no spend day, or once a day was a spend, I was just going to town on other spending. Instead, I wanted to give myself credit for sticking to a plan. That's what I'm trying to do. Next year, I think there will be some modifications (because it turns out I miss counting No Spend days). But you can check in here and try to be more accountable without sharing your spending plan in detail. This is a thread without a lot of rules. It's more about finding what works for you, and posting here to be more accountable to yourself by being accountable to us.
moneysquirrel - I hope you have a good holiday season. Start of the year sounds rough with all the annual expenses, but I know you're one who plans for those things, so I've no doubt you'll make it through. Thanks for all your support throughout the year.

Blonde Granny - I know it works for a LOT of people. And I've tried it. But it didn't work for the way I track credit card expenses, and I spent more time arguing with it each month than was worth it. I have a home grown spreadsheet that works really well for me.
