I think the reason Kate blames herself for Jack's death is that Jack died trying to save her dog in the fire after everyone was safe. The clues are pointing that way, but I think there's going to be a twist. Like, Jack goes back in to save the dog and you think he's going to die, but he comes out fine. Then they take everyone to the hospital to get checked and he ends up having a heart attack or something. Well shit, somebody should pay me to write these shows!!!

I thought the heart attack later was super lame. It gave them reason to sit around and say "oh, I love you, you are the greatest, blah, blah." Over the top sappy that was totally unnecessary. Kevin has the most interesting story here, as all of his crap was left unsaid. (Although I didn't watch the previous episode, they probably had some unrealistic love fest that would have me throw yogurt at the television.)

But I got a cavity from watching it, and my eyeballs hurt from all the exaggerated rolls, so I'm out.

He's been very careful in interviews to say it was a "slow cooker."

The ending for the 2019 season premiere blew me away. I should have known better than to be totally surprised after watching the show as long as I have.

YES! although, did anyone else feel like they were in the middle of a House reunion? lol... I do love that they are adding to the time jumps with that new character.

I guess I am the only one that found the season premier just okay. Kind of blah actually. Way too much of new characters and too little of established characters. The current day ones were only in like the last 8 minutes. This felt way more like a 2nd or 3rd episode of the season not the season premier. JMHO

This is exactly the first thing I thought of. First you see Cameron and then you see Foreman, and I'm like "Wait, where's Chase?!" I thought it was a great episode. You could see peeks of how it was going to come together - like there was a "Elect Pearson" bumper sticker on the car that came into the body shop, etc.

There was nothing particularly special about this week's episode but I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure what is going to happen with Kate and Toby since he is losing the weight.
I read that there will be 6 seasons and they already know how they are going to end the show. I tend to appreciate TV shows a lot more when they have an ending in sight instead of these shows that just keep going season after season with the writers running out of ideas.

I have read that, too. and I'm looking forward to the seasons still to come I'm not sure how the Kate/Toby thing will go, but I hope it's not tv drama and is realistic. IME with couple friends that have significant weight loss in one partner, it hasn't always ended well. in other cases, they have gone into it together and have done amazingly well. this is not AT ALL to say I'm rooting against Kate and Toby, but I don't want it to turn into scripted schmaltz. hope that makes sense. and yes, this week was light for the most part. I read an interview with the girl that plays Tess over the winter, and she is very much looking forward to expanding her acting chops in exploring the character path that Tess is on. I love the new haircut, can't wait to watch her and Annie to grow up. I loved the whole bus thing with Deja and Randall, too. still haven't figured out the former House connection, but we shall see.

SPOILERS
I wasn't familiar with the phrase 'hall pass' but I've heard of the concept. Didn't see it coming for poor Kevin; DH and I were speechless, we just felt so bad for him.
Can't decide if Toby is cheating. I sure hope not.
So many storylines in this episode that I don't think it needed the intruder at the end.

I am on the edge of my seat with the intruder. The hall pass was meh. I do also want to know what Toby is up to.

I'm familiar with the term 'hall pass' but I also did not see that coming AT ALL. I read something where that actress is supposed to be a recurring character, so idk how that's going to work. that intruder....yikes. IRL, a very good friend of mine just dealt with this. last winter, she woke up to someone climbing in through her very high bedroom window, from the back courtyard. she scared him off by screaming, and actually went to testify against him in court about 2 months ago. she's had nightmares again after watching that episode on Tuesday.

Oh, I totally saw that hall pass thing coming - her all "my mom again" was too obvious!
I wish they'd have Jennifer Morrison stick around - I like her! Poor Kevin is always looking for love in all the wrong places.

I think if I hadn't already read about that actress being a recurring guest, I might have picked up on the hall pass stuff. idk. can't wait for tonight's episode. I hope my mom doesn't mind tuning in, since she'll be here

I watched this week's episode last night. It was a good one. I also enjoyed last week with Kate and Toby. I feel like there is a lot of ground still left to cover, and I think only 6 episodes left. It seems like they wasted at least 2 episodes this season on meaningless crap. The episode where Jack goes back home after his mother dies was a complete waste to me. I would rather they have spend more time on the lives of other characters and how it is going to shape future events.
Overall I have enjoyed this season though. I think I will probably save the last 3-4 episodes so I can binge watch them. Feels like it will be more satisfying to me that way.
Kate and Toby's eventual split was evident only a couple of seasons in, and I have enjoyed watching the evolution of their relationship. It feels so true to life to me. He loses the weight and finds this great job. He finally feels really good about himself. He shouldn't have to apologize for that, but his choices effect her also so she has a right to be upset about that as well. I'm not sure what the alternative is other than to split up when you grow apart this way. Seems to happen to a lot of people.

Mandy Moore said when she read this week's episode she threw up afterwards. I'm kinda scared to watch it.
