I also think they are going to save Jack's death / Manny / Manny's children until season 2. You can't run through all your good plot lines in the first 26 episodes.

Also, it's not a mystery show, so they don't really have to "reveal" anything. It's just a drama with a story line that is unfolding over X number of years.

I didn't say anything about it being a mystery. Just different plot lines. If they tell us everything there is to know about these people, there is no real reason for us to come back. They chose to tell us the story in a disjointed timeline, so their past is also their future. And we will come back to find out their future, which is also their past.

I agree that they are going to hold off on the Jack & Manny reveals until next season.

Did you ever watch Parenthood? To me This is us is just like that, only they go into the past as well. I guess *I* thought that they would have all kinds of different "reveals" going on, but I don't think that's their intent.

I watched the latest 2 episodes last night. Both episodes were great but I really enjoyed the one with the doctor. It was nice to get more background on him.
I really hope Kate doesn't end up hurting Toby!

I haven't seen this week's yet but really enjoyed last weeks with the doctor. I was kind of surprised nobody came in here and posted how happy they were that Toby survived after complaining that you had to wait a month to find out. LOL

I really didn't expect Toby to die so it wasn't shocking to me. After he flew across the country and did that romantic gesture stuff I just couldn't picture them letting him kick the bucket.

So, didn't it seem like Jack died when kids were fairly young?
And Kevin was married to someone who he met when he was 10 ? that was shocking. No?

To me, the kids seemed to be teenagers. Initially, I thought 10-11 based on some of the kids' feet when they initially showed feet at the funeral. Then later I thought teenagers, like 15-16. Still I got teary-eyed.
When Kevin was picturing the girl and he drove up to her apartment, I was hoping it wasn't Olivia. I was hoping Sloane as I really liked her; however, I'm open to the Sophie. I'm interested to see how it turns out.

I rewound and froze the funeral scenes. The boys were both taller than Rebecca. They were teenagers, but probably mid to late teens. The actors were different than the ones who play the 10 year olds.

Very true about the actors playing in the funeral scene. Initially I thought younger by the feet but changed my mind once I saw the faces of the actors at the scene. I would agree with slightly older teens too.

Kids have to be teens because the dad was alive when Kevin and Randall were playing high school football.

I'm guessing 16-17 based on how they looked at the funeral. I wonder what happened.
I'm waiting to see what happens with Kate and Toby. I like the actor who plays the guy at the fat camp (Ferg in Longmire), but he's a cocky ass on this show!

I am going to guess a tragic accident of some sort (maybe car) is what happened to dad.

imdb calls out 9yo Kate, Kevin and Randall, and then 15yo Kate, Kevin and Randall in the cast list.
and I'm thinking accident as well. there's never been any hint that he had been sick or anything. I'm still trying to figure out how Rebecca ends up with Miguel. we'll get there, I know..

Eh, it doesn't really bother me that much. Jack obviously passes away pretty young. Rebecca still has a lot of life to live. She is going to eventually end up with SOMEONE. The fact that she ends up with Jack's best friend is not uncommon.

So Toby can be a bit overbearing but the way it ended this week...I am about to get really pissed at Kate...

I've never liked Toby, but I'd still be annoyed if Kate actually does anything with sleazy camp guy.
I loved this week when Rebecca told off the guy in her band.

Maybe it was because I was distracted by chores, but this week's episode was kinda lame. And they need to tone down the overly sappy romantic love fest between Mom and Dad. To me, it just passsed convincing and is approaching ridiculous.
Maybe he will die from sirroris, given that they set up the whole drinking thing.

I didn't pick up on the drinking thing....

I don't find his humor funny and he's too pushy. I know *I* couldn't handle that kind of pushines and "togetherness" all the time. But I thought Kate would need that...I don't know why....
