Al's last week of school is next week. I thought we would write thank you notes to each of her teachers and include Target gift cards. Or am I on the wrong track? I just figured the last thing a teacher needed was one more Pinterest craft, lol. Anything I could come up with I am sure one of the other moms already did. That's what I do. They do not need anymore "World's Best Teacher" stuff! Also, (and I don't want to start this debate again) but teachers aren't particularly well paid.

Well for engineer week we got an email that said "It's Engineers Week!". At least no paper was wasted.
I get all the various teachers Dunkin Donuts gift cards. I figure if they don't like it, someone will and it can always be re-gifted. One of the teachers at daycare always says "I'm going to use this TODAY at lunch" and then tells me all about what she bought when I pick the kids up. She's my favorite

I did this for all of my daughter's preschool and grade school teachers. I figure you can't go wrong with Target.

Lol! Another cry me a river thread. I heard all this pity party shit from teachers the entire time I went to school. If it's so damn bad, change professions. It ain't any more complicated than that.
About teacher pay... If you all would ditch the union, a good teacher could command a good salary instead of the one size fits all Union pay scale. A good teacher is worth his or her weight in gold. The cold hard fact is that they are few and far between.

The hilarious thing is that no one here would be doing what they do career-wise if it wasn't for teachers. I can safely say that no accountants helped me get my HS diploma.

The appreciation is in the paycheck; not unlike any other profession. If you have a special teacher, by all means, do something special to show them your appreciation. To the rest; you have been justly compensated for your work.

So then don't give them extra. Not sure where the venom is coming from.

And I'm sure some of us don't appreciate you as much as you appreciate yourself, but we're not sitting here telling you how not great you are....

A group of teachers sat behind me Saturday night at a ballgame. They spent the whole game botching about their jobs and counting how many days left til summer break so they can lay on their asses all summer. I've simply heard more than enough of it. When I was paying at the gate for my family to get in, they pranced right by saying "oh, we're teachers. We do't pay to get in. Yeah, they sure have it rough!

Yeah, and it says "if you are so inclined"... Not "you need to get your teachers something".

There should be an accountant appreciation week. They work 12 months out of the year and the first four months (January through April) they work horrendous hours to get people their W-2s, 1099s, and tax returns.
Some accountants even have to buy their own office supplies if they like a specific type of pencil or straight edge. (gasp)

Not really. I think just about every professional has to buy some of their own office supplies if they are picky.
I own my own law firm. I have to buy all my own office supplies. Feel bad for me.

Again, it says if you want to participate. Not that it's a requirement.

Hell, I got to do that working at the utility company. I thought that's what most adults did - use the crappy standard office supply pens or buy your own.

Do you have kids? If not, why on earth do you care if someone buys them a thank you gift? I get gifts and appreciation from my bosses and clients when I go above and beyond. I give appreciation gifts to people who do the same, and those who make my life easier. This year that includes my sons teacher and the health aide at school. You can't be working that hard as an accountant if you have time to post in threads that don't even apply to you.
