Is it weird to get drunk around your kids or parents? I don't think my kids would have any memory of me being drunk, though technically I surely have been around them. I want to go to sleep when I get drunk, so. I don't think I have ever been drunk around my parents. I went over to one of my daugher's houses when they were having a new years eve party and she was drunk and sleeping on the couch. Her half sister was also drunk and was a sweet drunk, happy to see me, hugged and kissed me, just sweet. My other daughter makes beer, I told her if she would make some alcoholic root beer everyone was coming over to get drunk there. I think that put her off of making that

I rarely get so drunk that I get sick. I did get that drunk once when my kids were with me, and once at a wedding about 10 years ago (kids were not with). I don't think DH has seen me get sick from drinking other than those two times. I was very sick both times.
I was very worried about my DS for awhile, but he seems to be on a power lifting/health food kick now and does not drink so much anymore. I still worry about both my kids though.
I would try alcoholic root beer, but I don't know if I would ever invite someone over to get drunk as opposed to inviting someone over for a bonfire, a cookout or even for cocktails. I have been invited to the neighbors for a drink or a glass of wine.

I stopped drinking about 2 years ago, but not with any plan to make it permanent. It was an easy way to cut calories, and alcohol wasn't really do anything to make my life better. But sometimes I miss the idea of drinking.

I have seldom gotten drunk in my life and don't have children. Never around parents or any place that wasn't totally safe. I didn't drink until I was 34 then usually only one drink but when I had one boyfriend I would get drunk at his house. He didn't drink at all so I could drink without worry about driving or anything. Now I haven't been drunk in 31 years since I dumped him and quit drinking more than one or two drinks a year about 30 years ago, it has been a few years since I had any.

I don't drink alcohol. I grew up around drunks. It wasn't a good thing. Of the kids, I'm the only one who hasn't followed in my father's footsteps in being a drunk. After 20 years or so the others are straightening themselves out, but still drink to excess frequently.

I got drunk at dad's wedding #4. It wasn't a good idea. No one got invited to wedding #5. I'm happy to say that for wedding #6 i was very proactive. The bartender knew up front that it was one drink round, one water round. I also ate a lot of sugar ... but my sister and i should never drink heavily at the same time. My kdis, not often. I just don't drink much any more. never falling down knind of drunk. i actually wish they'd take me up on the offer to drink at home, but they just don't seem interested in alcohol?...

My daughter and her friend who lived with us, once were teasing me about letting them get drunk. I told them they could get drunk at home if they wanted to, that getting drunk was overrated. They turned down the offer. I think they were both about 16.

When I was 21 and home for Christmas, I went to out with some HS friends. My mom was our DD and dropped us off and then picked us up. Being 21 and wasted, I went on and on in an overly emotional way for about 30 minutes. She managed to listen to me without rolling her eyes, and I was embarrassed in the morning.
A couple of years ago, we went on vacation together and the owner of the condo we rented left us a bottle of champagne in the fridge. I had two glasses and she had the rest. She rarely drinks, but was drunk enough to try and convince me to drive to the store for about half an hour. I rolled my eyes, and she wasn't embarrassed in the morning. She knows I would never drink and drive, I think she was just being obnoxious as fair play.
We also went to Europe together one fall. My mom is super outgoing and a group of young people at the next table in a restaurant got her to try shtorm (not sure how to spell it). It is this seasonal, delicious and potent cider. She loved it, they loved her, and they all tried to convince me that she should go out with them. We hung out for a while, but I talked her out of going bar hopping with them.
Those are the only occasions. My parents only drank a handful of times during my childhood, and then it was always one or two drinks. I am glad my mom's wild side didn't come out until I was mature enough to handle it!

The only time I have ever gotten drunk in my adult life was when I was painting woodwork. It has happened a couple of times. I always enjoy a few beers on occasion. On these occasions, I was sitting down and had two beers in cooler thingies. My ex and then my ex-bf would always ask, "Do you need another beer?" I stood up. Wham. I couldn't walk. I think I crashed into some stuff. Friends don't let friends paint drunk.

My mom got drunk one NYE when I was in my teens.... Super embarrassing. DS is only 4.5 so he wouldn't know or remember anything, but no I haven't gotten drunk or even tipsy in front of him. Have I had 1 drink with him around? Sure. But rarely.

We serve adult beverages at Thanksgiving and Christmas. So the (grand)kids have seen their parents and grandparents drink wine, etc.
No one gets drunk, though. My rule is that I only drink in the privacy of my home. I am the designated driver if DH and I go out for NYE or something.
Drunk is different than drinking.
Part of the fun of being a teacher, though . . . I don't buy alcohol anywhere where my students, former or present, are. Most teachers, at least those my age, are this way. We don't want to send the message that alcohol is part of having a good time. We have a party after graduation, and the place closes to other patrons so that we don't violate this rule.

I don't drink much and never did around family since most of them were/are alcoholics. I'm happy that I didn't follow the family pattern. My DB has quit and goes to AA religiously, one Sis quit. The last I heard big sis was still drinking, but I don't have anything to do with her anymore so I don't really know.
Dad died from alcoholism and mom and stepdad are gone now too. Both were big drinkers and got drunk pretty regularly.

I think we need to define "drunk" here. If we're talking won't pass a breathalyzer. Yeah...plenty of times. If we mean puking in flower pots, falling down stairs drunk, not so much. Probably never around the kids, but I'm sure around/with my Mom once or twice. I know I was completely wasted at her wedding...I was just 17 but my new aunts were evil. I live in an area of the country where it's pretty common to pick up cases of beer for the adults at the kids birthday parties. The kids and I just came from a wedding and I probably had 5 or 6 beers, but I wasn't driving or dancing on tables taking my shirt off. I cut back on drinking a lot about 10 years ago because it started triggering migraines. Then my migraines were getting so bad (even without drinking) that they put me on a preventative med. Now I can drink again! I don't do it nearly as much anymore though.

I don't drink alcohol.
I remember my dad being hung over on Saturday mornings and my sister and I had to be quiet until he had a Pepsi. That was our sign that he was okay now. She remembers it the same way I do, so our memory must be correct. His drinking was done while out with his bowling buddies and he didn't have a driver's license or car at the time, so he wasn't driving drunk.

Getting a buzz on with relatives is the norm at Christmas.

I like alcohol but I don't like getting drunk. A little buzz is enough. So, no to both.

I have been drunk once, ever, under controlled conditions.
I have had alcohol around my parents, though. This led to my parents stating I should drink more. (One or two drinks relaxes me, my default setting is wired MUCH too tightly. I don't drink that often, though, because I'd rather not self-medicate for anxiety.)

I've never really developed a taste for alcohol, but back in the day I would occasionally drink a bit. I don't think I've ever really been wasted, though. Alcohol gives me the silly giggles and I'm pretty much useless for anything but giggling wildly and without provocation. That is kind of cute when you are 20, but at my age it's not very attractive. lol!
I've never drunk around my parents. Frankly, alcohol doesn't really figure into our gatherings except my brother's 4th of July party, so that's not saying much.
My children are grown now but when they were teens we chose not to keep alcohol in the house so they wouldn't be tempted to sneak it or to think a good time required alcohol. They both say they were around alcohol at high school parties but didn't drink it. They are both old enough to say if they had, so I believe them. One daughter's children are 13 and 3 and the other daughter's children are 8 and 10. They do not drink around their children except for very rare occasions. This usually involves a wine cooler type drink, maybe 1 or 2 over the course of several hours. They do not get drunk in front of them.

No kids here so that's a wash. parents are gone now but mother was an alcoholic so THAT wasn't happening. father almost killed me for smoking. wasn't going to see if I lived long enough to see what he'd do to me for drinking. I'm weird, not completely stupid.

I'll occasionally drink a beer in front of the kids. Never in front of the parents. They just go ballistic at the mere mention of alcohol for some reason. I just leave it alone.

Yes. I usually drink with my dad and then one of my kids drives me home. As much as I pay to purchase/upkeep/insure their cars, the better earn their keep!

I also stopped drinking about 2 years ago. I dropped about 10 lbs, and I was thinking I was too interested in having my glass of wine. I will now have a drink at a party or with friends, but don't want to get back into drinking regularly. DH is diabetic now, he rarely drinks either.

First time-age 12, skunk style baby! Mom made fun of me for a month, of my pain and suffering and mentioned that " that is why using alcohol in excess is not good!" Second time when I was serving at the end of the training period, the day of the allegiance ceremony. From 42 in the graduating platoon I was the only one with no relatives present so everyone just piled drinks on me. Next day the whole barack wasn't big enough to fit my head. After discharge I became a sailor so...what else is there to do at sea in the evenings? You learn to stock up and you are set! I got drunk a few times in front of my parents or kids but I'm a happy drunk, I love everybody when I'm in that state!

No. We don't have anything but cooking alcohol in our house. We don't even own wine glasses. i only have one glass of wine occasionally with one sister-in-law and also with one friend. I never drink in front of my parents because my mother is a mostly functional alcoholic who doesn't believe she is an alcoholic. I cannot guarantee peace with her when I'm sober much less if both of us were drunk.
DH doesn't drink ever. If I drank enough to get drunk more than once or twice, he would have a serious problem with me. He made that clear prior to both our co-habitation and our marriage, so I respect his wishes.

I don't drink much - it's unpleasant. That said, everyone drinks - the parents were super happy once the 'kids' were old enough to drink legally in public - so they could all go out and get "drunk" together. no one was ever shy about being drunk in front of the kids... some of the kids turned into 'drinkers' and some didn't (they saw the stupidness involved and opted out - or maybe they are like me and drinking just isn't fun or pleasant don't know.) A hang over is something to be celebrated - it's a badge of having had a "good time" or something. I don't think anyone was ever 'shamed' because they were hung over... A sibling had to stop drinking (health reasons) and he did. He stopped giving me grief about not drinking - because he now knows how 'stupid' and "timewasting" being inebriated is. Apparently people feel good and like they are doing a lot and having a lot of fun when drinking - but at some point it's not really like that. If anything it's weird to NOT drink/or do some other something at a big get together.

My parents don't drink and are pretty anti-alcohol, so I've never had a drink around them. I've only really been drunk once, when I was 25, and that was a planned outing with a friend from work who was going out on a disability retirement. He found out I'd never been drunk and wanted to fix that, lol. I drove to his place (an hour and a half from home) and drove home the next day--no kid. I've been pretty buzzed a few times, and once DS was with me (bonfire), another time it was accidental-- I got an Irish coffee for my birthday at a restaurant, drank less than half of it, stood up and realized that was way too much for me. I don't drink at all if I'll be driving, unless I allow for a couple hours for alcohol to wear off. Even our trip to Europe, surrounded by great beers and wines, I didn't drink much (even though I didn't drive at all). I did have some of the relative's homemade wine, and let DS try some (he didn't like it). They had cognac after dinner, which I'd never had before, so I had a shot glass of that over a sugar cube, and let DS try that as well. He decided he's not much of a fan of alcohol, hope that sticks for a while! I have a small bottle of Wodka from Poland We stayed in a small apartment right on the old town square and they put it in the room for us. It's a dark brown color, not sure how it would compare to vodka here. I'm just not really a drinker, I think the last time I had alcohol was when a coworker took me out for a drink my last day at the old job, to celebrate my escape, and that was back in September.

When I told my parents I was going to start drinking at 34 mom said don't do that too many calories. I explained I wasn't going to drink that much and she said it isn't the alcohol iti is the nachos. She would have one and a half rum and coke at midnight every night with nachos. So I started drinking at their house with a rum and coke. She found one wasn't enough and two was too many so dad would make her one and a half drinks. She quit drinking after retirement, dad got too hard to handle if she was the least bit out of it and she took care of him until he died then just didn't seem to care to drink anymore.
