Is this "a thing" on Facebook?

I just saw this, and it's annoying as hell (or maybe I'm just jaded, lol).

To the girls who let him go, Thank you so much. Thank you for walking out of his life or letting him walk out of yours. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to love him and do things that would make him happy, to really keep him. Thank you for hurting him. If not, he wouldn’t have learned what something as valuable as we have looks and feels like. I will do all the things you failed to do for him, like be there for him, prioritize him, not make him feel like he is just an option, Give him time and affection even when he is not asking for it. I will take care of the man you failed to appreciate. I will love the man you took for granted. I will do anything to keep him and make him stay. I will love him for all that he is, and will support him in anything that he wants to be. I will be the partner you failed to become for him. I will be the woman who will never make the same mistakes that you did. I will never let him go.

I was reading it, and thought, yes, it's all "her" (the ex girlfriends') fault--she failed to do everything for him, and took him for granted, and failed to become the kind of partner he needed.  Why was that a failure?  Maybe it just wasn't a good fit.  Maybe he did stuff that just wasn't forgivable.

Then I looked at who posted it, and realized I didn't know that person (it showed up because a friend "liked" it).  She had tagged her husband (who I also didn't know).  

I did laugh a little when I saw his comment beneath it:

I'm sorry for all the hurt I've caused along the way with drugs and alcohol but am very blessed to be where I'm at in life today with an amazingly loving wife thank you [wife's name] for not giving up on me and loving me even when I wasn't loveable

Yes, these women who left a drug abusing alcoholic were all to blame for failing to appreciate him.  Good for him for cleaning up and making a relationship work, and I think his comment was "classy" and accepting of the role he played, not just blaming the "crazy ex girlfriends". But I think she's a dick for posting what she did (and that's not just because it was a "copy and paste" status, lol.)

Just post that you are thankful that his past led him to you, and all the failed relationships led to your happiness and ability to value what you have.  You don't need to be a smug ass about it.

They post that stuff to try and make the ex think she is missing something great. "Look what I have. Nana boo boo."

Ugh, that post made me want to vomit   Maybe the girlfriend who posted it was just bragging about how great her relationship is, but I see that this can be a really unhealthy way to view your relationship, like you can "fix" what others "gave up" on. Like Apple said, maybe there is a good reason the past relationships didn't work out...

I can't stand any of the "Share [or Post} if you love your husband, your kids, your sister, your job, your computer . . . whatever." No one has ever been healed because they got a million likes on Facebook.

My main complaint is that these posts trivialize important things.  I do love my husband, and the whole world should already know that because of the way we interact.  I do care about kids with cancer who have no legs, but "liking" their picture is too easy and does nothing to help them or the campaign to end cancer. 

These are the internet equivalent of "Honk if you love Jesus."  I always thought Jesus wanted a little more proof than that.

Are they friends with the EX? How do they know she will even see it. I checked the FB of a small local resale shop for a while and WOW all heck broke loose on that page but going the opposite direction. Owner ranted about how the man she thought she knew etc. etc. etc. and because of that low down dirty snake who basically stole her shop from her - well you get the drift.

I hate to admit but I kept checking back from time to time just to see what was going on. I didn't know these folks from Adam but it got to be comical with the back and forth. I know, I should be ashamed for laughing but you put it out there in a public forum - what cha expect?

She might have already done so, she just hasn't realized it yet!   Give it time.  All relationships are awesome in the beginning. 


But yeah, crap like this is a "thing" on Facebook.  It's as popular as false news stories and "type Amen if you love Jesus" memes.

Instead of 'Like' farming, this 'message' is someone 'Share' farming. Someone who posts a message to see how many people will share the message.

It's not as bad though as some Facebook posters who search the Internet for pitiful pictures of anonymous, unknown, adults or children without limbs, or sick people, especially children, and whose message below the picture states, "Hit like, post Amen, and share this post or you are heartless and cold and will have seven years of bad luck if you don't".

'Like' and 'Share' Facebook farming at its worst.

I usually just assume that when someone posts one of those "can I get an Amen" things or a poorly thought out "sound bite" on a picture that's suppose to be "witty" or "mean something", or something that's obviously fodder for Snopes, or some silly quiz, I assume the person sharing it has had a few Adult Beverages (or something else) and isn't thinking very clearly and found the shared thing to be meaningful in that impaired state. I'm use to humoring people in impaired states, so I just kind of humor their FB shares, too.

I always suspect those are likely made-up stories that just get shared by people who lack critical thinking skills.  They are too pat and too carefully constructed for the purpose of eliciting a specific reaction to seem entirely real.  However, my Facebook contacts, for the most part, do not share that sort of post, so what do I know.

Self preservation is an amazing thing. I started talking to a guy in my new complex. He started sharing all his health problems with me for some bizarre reason. All it made me think was I'd never ever date this man bcuz he's a blabber mouth who shares too much with a total stranger and no way am I dealing with an unhealthy guy no matter how cute he is, and for an old fart, he was cute. Let him be someone else's "prize."

I respectfully disagree with the bolded portion of your statement.  When I post pics of certain meals, I receive comments from friends and family that they wish they were at my house! 

A couple of dishes I post pics of to tease my niece that she isn't here for one of her favorite meals.  I'm such a mean aunt!

I only have 24 friends on FB. 7 of those are RL friends and the rest are cyber friends that I have been online with since 96. Some post where they've been and all the usual stuff that gets posted. Lots of cat posts. The only time someone post anything personal is in a private group that the cyber friends belong to but it doesn't get really personal.

I have no problem with hiding a post if I think someone I am on with might be offended by what someone else posts on my wall.

I don't post diddly squat about what is going on with me. I'm way to private. Don't have a picture of me nor answered any of the tell us about yourself question.

I did actually post a picture once about football season about to start and one person actually said something like "OMG NoName actually posted something.

I only have FB to keep up with my best friends daughter, gk's and ggk's instead of them sending me pics thru email.

Now I will admit that there are 3 FB friends that I would like to meet in person and will get around to it one of these days 

ETA: I do enjoy seeing some of the stuff pEEps post but I can just scroll past the political, religious, save the world posts. No biggie!!

I don't have many facebook friends, and the ones I do don't normally post stuff like this.  So now facebook has decided I need to have every post a friend "likes" in order to fill up the space on my "newsfeed."

When I went on my vacation last year, I made a private photo album and only let local friends who knew I was going, or people who lived across the country see the photos.  I made it open to friends after I got home, no way was I going to advertise the house would be empty for five weeks.

I can definitely see the post being made by a very insecure person.

You can set what you see in a way - you have to try to work the algorithm though. Essentially, start liking or commenting on things you want to see more of. I started "liking" when my friends posted photos or articles and refrained from interacting with anything that was second-hand. my feed has gotten much better.

 I have always wondered if everything I "like" shows up on everyone elses page too. Some times some "likes" something and it shows up on my page. I am very FB illiterate I get it shows up in notifications that I liked something of commented but does the actual picture/post show up on joe blows page too  I need a lesson in FB!! but then the guidelines will change overnight without warning.

Frankly, FB and social media in general is the new version of "too bad, so sad" these days. It's the digital form of rubbing it in, pouring salt in the wounds and poking someone with a sharp stick, just to let them know that they messed up. I rarely go there anymore.
