Some recycled plastic bags have this ungodly smell that I can sort of taste. Nobody else seems to notice. I had to throw away a bag of ice because it made everything I drank taste like the plastic. This is how I define "freezer burn". It's a big issue for me too. Anything kept in the freezer for too long winds up tasting awful in the presence of plastic packaging, especially if it's exposed to the open air.

I don't notice it only with frozen foods though. I thought it was either overly recycled bags or something in the process of recycling.

1 is yellow. 2 - inconsistent 3 is red. 4 is green. 5 is blue. 6 is orange. 7 is purple. 8 is black. 9 - inconsistent 0 - inconsistent I must have played with coloured number blocks when I was a little kid or something, because the number-to-colour associations above are very strong for me. Also, if we're looking at "weirdisms in childhood", I apparently had an all-consuming obsession with vacuum cleaners when I was young. Anywhere I'd go, playing with the vacuum was my favourite pastime. One of my grandmothers started hiding hers because she couldn't stand tripping over it constantly. I have no memory of any of it, but there's plenty of documented photographic and video evidence. If I didn't know it was me, I'd say it was creepy.

I can notice it in non-frozen foods too, but frozen ones are the worst. Put ice cubes in a freezer for a few days along with bags of frozen veggies, etc., it's like they get a chemical scum on top of them. I think the worst I ever had was some Eggo waffles that I'd kept in the freezer for too long and got plasticized. When they came out of the toaster, the smell made me physically ill.

One of my kids - who seems pretty normal now - was fascinated with garbage cans when he was around 2. Very weird since he didn't like to get dirty and wouldn't take anything out of a garbage can, he was just obsessed with the actual vessel. When we'd walk around our neighborhood in Phoenix where 3 houses share a huge, industrial size can and they sit in alleys, he'd want to give each one a pat and talk to it. Same thing when we'd visit relatives that had normal sized garbage cans. Same thing when we'd be walking and come upon one of the dumpsters temporarily parked in front of a house being remodeled. Weird and totally gross. Man I was happy when he grew out of that. Would have much preferred he was fascinated with the vacuum cleaner.

Fresh things that have been refrigerated too long taste "refrigerated" to me. (strawberries for example) I can't explain the taste, it's cold and cardboard-y. If they're stored in plastic with holes for ventilation it takes longer for that taste to appear but......

I hate all sorts of sounds. Sharp, squeaky sounds of shoes on the court are awful! So are most alarm clocks. And whiny, nasal voices. (Sorry if you [general you] have one of those, I just can't stand them) All kinds of noises.... unless *I* chose to make the volume high, I'm going to be cranky about it. Don't even talk loud in the mornings, you might get hurt. Misophonia. I can sit here and diagnose people all day, wheeeeeee! I have hyperosmia. I have to eat my grapes with a fork. That sulphur-based fungicide they use on the grapevines leaves a disgusting smell on my fingers that just won't wash off, no matter what.

Hyperosmia can be an advantage. I can tell if something is not real gold, not real leather, etc., by sniffing it. :Look! See my new gold bracelet?" "Let me see. Sorry to disappoint you, but that's gold plated. I can smell the base metal underneath."

For me the only thing I can smell that not everyone else seems to be able to is silk, sometimes.

I'm sick of unleashed dogs. Even though there are lease laws here, itseemsnthe owners think it doesn't apply to them.

I'm sick of barking dogs. Seriously, deal with your barking dog. Yes, that can be really annoying. The neighbor that used to block the shared access driveway moved out (yay!) and the new people have two dogs that seem to bark most of the day. So far, I'm preferring the barking to not being able to get out of my driveway, but I'm sure over time the barking will grow old.

When walking up or down stairs I have to land on my left foot...In my house I know which foot I have to start with so that my left foot hits the landing. If I'm not home, I will actually switch feet as I approach the landing so that my left foot hits. I have no f'n idea why I have to do this...I swear I'm normal otherwise!lol

I can't stand frozen green beans. They taste like the plastic bag they came in and have a strange texture.

I despise TV commercials and ad videos. This in and of itself isn't terribly unusual, but commercials bother me so much that: - if I'm not able to mute the source, I'll often have to leave the room
- as a personal rule, I will never click on an advertisement
- as a personal rule, I will never purchase any product or service in response to an advertisement
- I keep a precise record of advertisements for products and brands injected into contexts I don't expect to find them (monitors installed in bathroom stalls, on the side of bus stations, on monitors in hallways, as light displays on the sidewalk, etc.) or contexts where I'm a captive audience (movie theaters, line-ups, etc.), and diligently boycott those products and brands for anywhere from a year to a decade. I take the boycott list very seriously.
- I have paid memberships to dozens of sites due to my use of ad blocking plugins. My stance is that because I'm technically depriving websites of ad revenue by blocking their ads, if I visit them routinely, I have a moral obligation to sign up for their ad-free experience if they offer one. That includes Proboards (with Proboards+).
If a website tries to circumvent ad blocking or to make proper function of the site contingent on viewing the ads, I blacklist the site for five years regardless of whether it offers an ad-free experience or not. The latest casualty was WSJ Online, which is unfortunate since I'd have otherwise subscribed by the end of the year, but rules are rules.
Bottom line: you do not want to show me a video or audio advertisement for your product. I have more tolerance for static ads with reasonable dimensions, placed in out-of-the-way places.

Virgil - I don't understand half of that post but I admire your determination to avoid advertising. I'm not as proactive as you are but I never view tv in real time so I can FF through all commercials. And it really ticks me off when I click on a story online & before I can view it there is an ad for something. Half the time I just shut it down depending on how interested I am in the story.

I can't get on anything of Forbes at work anymore. It says I'm using ad blocking software and won't let me proceed. I see ads on other websites so I don't know. It's a recent thing.

You have a pet bat? Are they friendly? Always been curious. Can't get close to the live ones around here but once when I tried to rescue one that the cat got, I was surprised at how silky soft it was. Is yours soft? How did you happen to get a bat?

I HAD a pet bat. His name was Count Floyd. I found him when he was an infant, dehydrated, in the stairwell of my apartment building. I nursed him back to health and we kept him for a while. Couldn't get rid of him, actually. We kept throwing him off the balcony at dusk, hoping he'd meet up with his batty relatives, but he kept coming back. He preferred being hand-fed bits of Quarter Pounders with Cheese. He was a cutie-pie. Yeah, he was pretty soft. They don't make ideal pets, though. They don't do tricks or heel. My pet wolf was no picnic, either. He was shot by a hunter and crawled under our house to die. I don't recommend these critters.
