Presidential hopeful Trump took the podium in Iowa and blew the false pretenders off the stage eight blocks away. Fox had the second lowest debate audience of the debates. Word has it that it was mostly Democrats who watched to see what would happen. Meanwhile Republicans were watching Trump arriving at the airport on TRUMP ONE. Looked similar to the President arriving on Air Force One for an event. The media ate it up. It was reported Roger Ailes was being treated for depression.

So, I gather you're on the Trump Train? I'm genuinely curious-- what is it that you like about Donald Trump? What key policy initiative do you see him achieving? How do you see a Trump presidency turning out?
I'll tell you what worries me about Trump: his paranoid, vindictive, and nasty way of dealing with anyone he perceives to be an 'enemy'-- even when they aren't, like Mark Levin, for example- conservative stalwart and thought leader whom Trump just out and declared war on- are reminiscent of Nixon. I fear a Trump presidency could be an implosion-- remember, conservatives and Republicans do not cover for, or tolerate corruption. And the establishment would go along with impeachment-- no way the "surrender caucus" risks it all to defend corruption in the Trump administration-- and there will be scandals.
I see Trump winning, but I also see a train wreck coming that will set the conservative movement back (remember-- TEA party, evangelical, Palin, Falwell...) a generation because the establishment GOP in particular will pin the whole thing on conservatives and they'll be back to business as usual with gusto.

Trump train? No. I am fascinated by him though. Your description of him is actually a good one describing Cruz quadrupled. Trump will make deals. Congress and Senators will actually be planning the death of Caesar, if Cruz is elected. They hate him. And with good reason. Heck he isn't even permitted to run for the Presidency and he refuses to fight the charge leveled at him. He thinks he is Caesar.

What really fascinates me is how he is accepted with all his monetary trappings and lifestyle. Romney tried to downplay it because the media crucified him as a rich Republican. The public ran with that all the waty to re-elect the President.
Trump let's everyone know he is rich, proud of it, and says, people, you too can be me. The fight with Fox over participating in the debate was a classic. He made Fox look like the aggressor, trying to destroy him. The argument sent the message to voters he stands on his principals and will fight for them, while the public sees it as I stand on principal and will do his utmost to fight for you and never settle without the absolute best deal for you, the electorate and the country. Makes him heads and shoulders against the opposition including Hillary and Bernie. Classic!

And will fail to make deals as well. He's skipped two debates because he couldn't make the deals he wanted and also failed at the Obama birth certificate for money challenge.
Looks like he set up his "fundraiser" to hit the goal before his event. dailycaller.com/2016/01/28/here-are-the-people-who-donated-6-million-to-donald-trumps-fundraiser-for-vets/
One million dollars of that sum came out of the real estate billionaire’s own pocket he said during the rally, which was held at Drake University. Other fellow billionaires, such as famed investor Carl Icahn and real estate developer Phil Ruffin, contributed $1 million, too. And a website that Trump set up early Thursday morning brought in another $500,000, the presidential candidate said.
Other big donors Trump identified are real estate billionaire Richard LeFrak, who gave $100,000, Marvel Comics CEO Ike Perlmutter, who gave $1 million, and an anonymous donor who gave another million.
If you are counting, 5 individuals gave $1 million each including Trump.

Quiet, refined, known buyer of companies and thus destroyer of livelihoods is not something the masses aspire to. Especially if they had to be Mormon.
You see him as fighting for his principles. I see him as a guy who is always in it for the money and press. Someone who won't find a way to deal with people in our government and abroad he does not like.

In all honesty, did Hillary call in and donate? Half the political landscape hates him (The democratic side) and a quarter of Republicans do not like him, so only 25% of the electorate would even consider donating, and with CBS targeting Wounded Warriors this week, it could be sort of a hard sell. Trump promised to raise money and he did. I would expect him to write a check for at least a million. Anything less would be hypocritical on his part. Ever watch Celebrity Apprentice? Rule number one. Have your roladex available to call in the big donors. Since he is not asking for his campaign, and just for charity, I am fine with that. You should be too. The whole thing was set up in about 24 hours. Not too shabby, and shows organizational skills. To be honest for Florina and Cruz PACS (Thanks dj) to offer millions for a one on one debate is quite obnoxious, even sleazy. There should be a donation to his charity, as both have claimed veterans are shortchanged by the government programs in place, and if elected, they will rectify the issue. To demand a "payment" a debate from Trump where they think they can gain a political advantage from the donation is flat out wrong and sleazy. Holding wounded and mentally damaged veterans hostage for the donation. WOW. There should not have been a qualifier for the money to be donated.

Unless, of course, it's their own of which we have numerous examples. Nixxon and Watergate started them off in my lifetime. But if you really want criminality and corruption conservative icon, and Butcher of Beirut Ronald Reagan takes the cake. Trading weapons to Islamofascists, skimming profits to arm terrorists in Nicaraugua, CIA admitted cocaine 'business', and the most convictions of any presidential administration in US history. Any idea they won't tolerate corruption is simply a massive delusion.

I know you are replying to Paul, but can we kind of keep the thread on topic for 10 responses before getting sidetracked? If I had read all of Paul's comment I would have mentioned it then This is about Trump And I guess Cruz??

Holding wounded and mentally damaged veterans hostage for the donation. WOW. There should not have been a qualifier for the money to be donated. I don't think that's how it happened. I think Donald decided to announce he wouldn't be attending the debate when he had the 5 million already promised. Whether it took 24 hours to put up the website or it was ready to go, we will never know. He gave the $5 million ultimatium for charity to CNN in early December. It is possible he's been planning something like this since then. I expect at least 11% in overhead to disappear from what is donated, perhaps much more.
I didn't follow the Cruz PAC and Fiorna's PAC. Its hard for me to see Trump's move as pure charity as it will be funneled through his own private foundation which prior to this has only given $57K to vets.
newsexaminer.net/politics/donald-trump-the-least-charitable-billionaire/
From 1990 through 2009, Trump has personally donated a total of just $3.7 million to his foundation, which was incorporated in 1987. In fact, the billionaire is not even the largest contributor to his own charitable organization.
Tax returns show that World Wrestling Entertainment has given Trump’s foundation a total of $5 million in return for the developer’s assistance in working a couple of televised angles along with WWE boss Vince McMahon.
Hard for me to see Trump as pure. YMMV.

www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-foundation-charity_us_56aa90bae4b00b033aae659f Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump markets himself as the rare politician who can't be bought. He says he's the only candidate who's immune to the kind of backdoor access and palm-greasing that infects official Washington.
But the story of his charity, the Donald J. Trump Foundation, illustrates a different side of Trump. Donors give money to the foundation; the billionaire scratches their backs and uses their money to burnish his ego and, more recently, his political reputation.
The Trump Foundation, which was founded in 1987, received more than $12 million in contributions from 2001 to 2014, the years for which federal tax records are publicly available. Trump provided less than a quarter of that -- and since 2008, he hasn't given the Trump Foundation a dime.
Instead, the foundation's money has come from people and companies that do business with Trump or want something from him. In 2006, People magazine gave the foundation $150,000. Trump gave the magazine exclusive photos of his newborn son, Barron, in April of that year. NBC Universal gave the foundation $10,000 in 2007 and another $500,000 in 2012. Trump's popular reality shows "The Apprentice" and "The Celebrity Apprentice" aired on NBC from 2004 to 2015. And in 2011, Comedy Central gave the foundation $400,000 as an appearance fee for the billionaire's participation in The Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump.

I was excited to watch the debate without Sideshow Bob, but turns out that Cruz just got to be more creepy, and poor Carson just didn't even know where the hell he was. I almost feel sorry for that guy.

I agree the most with Rand Paul.
I think Trump has the ability to get stuff done, but worry he's a bit vapid.
I think Cruz is the smartest guy in the room, but wish he'd not be a statist about the moral stuff. Keep the government out of the bedroom AND out of business.
I think Kasich would probably be best for the country, but he doesn't seem to be getting enough traction.
I will not vote for another Bush or Clinton. If I wanted to live in a monarchy, i'd move.
i think Trump has the ability to get stuff done....IN BUSINESS. i think he is uniquely incapable of getting anything done in Washington.

It was reported Roger Ailes was being treated for depression. why? his ratings were 4x what Trump's were: Nielsen will issue total-viewer estimates later today, but it’s likely that last night’s debate on FNC averaged in the vicinity of 12 million viewers. By comparison, the combined viewership of CNN and MSNBC, which covered Trump’s competing Iowa event last night, appears to be about 3 million or so. (according to Variety- who is really good at reporting this stuff).

dj, the number for the Fox debate was tossed out by CNN this morning. They did not quote the total people watching. Just that it was the second worst debate for eyeballs. I never said Trump had more total eyeballs. I said he had Republicans watching him rather than the Republican debate. Where in my uwuote that you highlighted did I state anything other than that? And throwing in MSNBC'S ratings would be a joke. Democrats do not even watch them anymore in the evening.

dj, the number for the Fox debate was tossed out by CNN this morning. They did not quote the total people watching. Just that it was the second worst debate for eyeballs. right. viewership was +15% from the last debate (with Trump) and higher than every all of the Democratic debates, and 4x the audience of Trump's little stunt rally. Ailes can take that all the way to the bank. these ratings are OFF THE HOOK for presidential debates. do you want me to show you? i think EVEN THIS LAST DEBATE broke the 2008 record (Obama/Clinton). so the GOP has something like (5) of the top (6) most viewed debates in US history, including the one last night. so, yeah- this one was second worst of the 6 best viewed debates in history. in other words, outstanding.I never said Trump had more total eyeballs. I said he had Republicans watching him rather than the Republican debate. Where in my uwuote that you highlighted did I state anything other than that? am i allowed to make my own point on this board? if so, that is what i was doing:
Trump got 1/4 the audience that he would have had, would he have gone to the debate. dumb, imo.
And throwing in MSNBC'S ratings would be a joke. Democrats do not even watch them anymore in the evening. generally speaking, you aggregate viewers no matter how poorly viewed an outlet is. if CSPAN was covering it, they would add those numbers, too. that is how you determine viewership. but for the record, i think it was divided about 50/50.

I think Ollie's nomination for the Senate in a Republican primary after his felony convictions were overturned on technicalities is the poster boy for what conservatives and Republicans will tolerate. From May until August of 1987 the Iran-Contra scandal and its televised hearings put the spotlight on North, who donned his uniform and admitted that he acted illegally, but out of patriotism. His felony convictions were eventually overturned, and depending on who's talking, North was either a traitorous drug smuggler or a national hero who saved Central America from communism. In 1994 he earned the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate, but lost the election. www.infoplease.com/biography/var/olivernorth.html

We will see in about three days whether Trump was hurt! Yes, you are allowed to make your point(s) on the board.
Just do not infer I say things I didn't.

We will see in about three days whether Trump was hurt! Yes, you are allowed to make your point(s) on the board. Just do not infer I say things I didn't. did you not say something about Ailes being depressed? i was not "inferring" anything that you didn't say, i was COMMENTING on what you DID say. edit: let me say it again: AILES.....KICKED.....TRUMPS....ARSE......LAST......NIGHT. period. he should be delighted, not depressed.

Also on MSNBC this morning they discussed Hillary again. FBI seems to be getting rather serious about the e-mails.

Ailes killed him.
