I guess I will sidetrack my own thread....... Anyone catch Hillary on television about how she will get things done in D.C. as President last night? Where does she think all this cooperation from Congress is coming from? My wife, a Democrat, asked me how in the heck will she get Republicans to work with her? Her coat tails are not there to elect a Republican Congress. Senate might be a possibility, but has nothing to do with her coat tails. If you think we had gridlock with President Obama, it will be doubled with her in the WH. Heck, Bernie would probably be part of her opposition

What? You don't "feel the Bern"? i wasn't aware you were a Democrat. Neither a Democrat or Socialist be JEB!! Or Christie! If I have to, Kasich, but I do not see how majority of Republicans would come out for him. Still would like him on the VP ticket. If Cruz or Rubio were third term Senators, I might have a record to look at, and consider one of them, but first term Senators are verboten after the last seven years for me.

Presidential hopeful Trump took the podium in Iowa and blew the false pretenders off the stage eight blocks away. Fox had the second lowest debate audience of the debates. Word has it that it was mostly Democrats who watched to see what would happen. Meanwhile Republicans were watching Trump arriving at the airport on TRUMP ONE. Looked similar to the President arriving on Air Force One for an event. The media ate it up. It was reported Roger Ailes was being treated for depression. why? his ratings were 4x what Trump's were: Nielsen will issue total-viewer estimates later today, but it’s likely that last night’s debate on FNC averaged in the vicinity of 12 million viewers. By comparison, the combined viewership of CNN and MSNBC, which covered Trump’s competing Iowa event last night, appears to be about 3 million or so. (according to Variety- who is really good at reporting this stuff). You have to take into account that this is CNN+MSNBC versus FOX. FOX has fourfold their collective political viewership on its worst of days, no? Wasn't it MSNBC that hit a milestone recently with viewership dipping into 5-digit territory one evening? If you're comparing 7 digits to 5...

I agree the most with Rand Paul.
I think Trump has the ability to get stuff done, but worry he's a bit vapid.
I think Cruz is the smartest guy in the room, but wish he'd not be a statist about the moral stuff. Keep the government out of the bedroom AND out of business.
I think Kasich would probably be best for the country, but he doesn't seem to be getting enough traction.
I will not vote for another Bush or Clinton. If I wanted to live in a monarchy, i'd move.
i think Trump has the ability to get stuff done....IN BUSINESS. i think he is uniquely incapable of getting anything done in Washington. I couldn't help notice you "liked" tallguys reply #17. Double standard ? Signed, The Turnip truck guy.

I wouldn't be surprised that the viewership for last night's debate was down.
The biggest attraction for many viewers is probably waiting to see what arrogant or insulting comment comes out of Trumps' mouth. Without him, it's just politicians sparring with each other.
Cruz came off very badly. Whining that the moderator asked questions that let everyone else to say mean things about him, arguing about the rules of the debate. He came off as someone who always thinks he's a victim. Not good.
I liked Kaisch, but don't know that he's got a chance. He seemed the most professional, knowledgeable and rational.

www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-foundation-charity_us_56aa90bae4b00b033aae659f Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump markets himself as the rare politician who can't be bought. He says he's the only candidate who's immune to the kind of backdoor access and palm-greasing that infects official Washington.
But the story of his charity, the Donald J. Trump Foundation, illustrates a different side of Trump. Donors give money to the foundation; the billionaire scratches their backs and uses their money to burnish his ego and, more recently, his political reputation.
The Trump Foundation, which was founded in 1987, received more than $12 million in contributions from 2001 to 2014, the years for which federal tax records are publicly available. Trump provided less than a quarter of that -- and since 2008, he hasn't given the Trump Foundation a dime.
Instead, the foundation's money has come from people and companies that do business with Trump or want something from him. In 2006, People magazine gave the foundation $150,000. Trump gave the magazine exclusive photos of his newborn son, Barron, in April of that year. NBC Universal gave the foundation $10,000 in 2007 and another $500,000 in 2012. Trump's popular reality shows "The Apprentice" and "The Celebrity Apprentice" aired on NBC from 2004 to 2015. And in 2011, Comedy Central gave the foundation $400,000 as an appearance fee for the billionaire's participation in The Comedy Central Roast of Donald Trump.
I hate Trump and I'm throwing up in the back of my mouth explaining this, but those donations from people that want something from Trump are Trump's donations. He's taking the donation as payment, when it goes directly to the charity he doesn't have to claim it as income. It's no different than celebrities participating in game shows on behalf of their favourite charity. There are a lot of very real things to criticize Trump for but this isn't one of them.

Please note the release of the info on super secret e-mails came around 4pm on a Friday as everyone leaves for the weekend. Anyone else see a pattern when info is released at a time when most of America misses it? The television show The West Wing had an episode on the technique called, “Take out the trash day.”
Donna: What’s take out the trash day? Josh: Friday. Donna: I mean, what is it? Josh: Any stories we have to give the press that we’re not wild about, we give all in a lump on Friday. Donna: Why do you do it in a lump? Josh: Instead of one at a time? Donna: I’d think you’d want to spread them out. Josh: They’ve got X column inches to fill, right? They’re going to fill them no matter what. Donna: Yes. Josh: So if we give them one story, that story’s X column inches. Donna: And if we give them five stories … Josh: They’re a fifth the size. Donna: Why do you do it on Friday? Josh: Because no one reads the paper on Saturday. Donna: You guys are real populists, aren’t you? politicaldictionary.com/words/friday-news-/

I know you are replying to Paul, but can we kind of keep the thread on topic for 10 responses before getting sidetracked? This is about Trump And I guess Cruz??

After dj and I got in the pissing match with each other, I did not mention Hillary until message 26, and mentioned right after that, I was guilty of sidetracking my thread I should have posted a new thread on the subject or put it on the "Hillary is finished" thread

Kasich is also the only candidate who'd be able to pull dems into seriously considering voting for him instead of feeling thar we HAVE to vote against Trump or Cruz. I run Dem or Ind. most elections and I had to take a hard look at him earlier but he doesn't stand a chance of getting the nomination.

"Thursday night marked the second lowest rated GOP debate of the season" Who won the ratings race: Fox News or Donald Trump? It's not so much about Republicans discussing the issues but about the entertainment value of the candidates. Just an extension of Celebrity Apprentice or like gladiator fights in the colleseum of Rome. Keep the masses ignorant and entertained.

I don't know that I would vote for him but I would be more comfortable voting for a third party. 2008 was too scary with Mr. Born into the Military, Educated by the Military, Career in the Military McCain and that VP choice. 2012 Romney didn't scare me.

Trump train? No. I am fascinated by him though. Your description of him is actually a good one describing Cruz quadrupled. Trump will make deals. Congress and Senators will actually be planning the death of Caesar, if Cruz is elected. They hate him. And with good reason. Heck he isn't even permitted to run for the Presidency and he refuses to fight the charge leveled at him. He thinks he is Caesar. he is used to getting his way, and thinks that he can do that as president. that makes him both stupid and totally unobservant, imo. I am not so certain. I think he is a keen observer. I think he's watched ObamaCare, realized it has been in effect, yet unenforced since 2010. I think he's watched Obama ram the "Dream Act" through by presidential decree. I think he's been watching Obama, and figures no one will stand up to a strong willed president. What I think he is perhaps underestimating is the importance of the fact that he is not black, or a Democrat.

I'm not sure he'd be able to get a Cabinet through Congress. That has to assume the House and Senate both go Democrat, or Rubio decides to actually show up and vote on something.

Esp. with his "hire the right people" remarks. But I could be wrong. Maybe all the Republicans will toe the party line. It'd be interesting to see who Trump would offer up for Supreme Court vacancies. Actually, that be interesting from any candidate, in my opinion.
