Hugs raeoflyte. I don’t understand why adulting has to be so stressful.

Done my side of background check, drug screen and medical screen. I’ve been surprised by how many coworkers have expressed a desire to get out of the lab, I’m rather nervous about it. Also, supervisor instructed me to email him a list of all the deliverables I plan to accomplish in my last two weeks. I’ve gotten a good laugh from nearly everyone I’ve repeated that to (for context the rest of the group has averaged maybe one deliverable per person per month. That comment is pretty much all you need to know about supervisor.) Labmate, who is a very sweet older Indian guy, commented yesterday that he was going to miss my jokes, I told him I’d miss having someone who appreciated my jokes I really will miss most of my coworkers.

I'm feeling ignored by my boss. I know she has a lot more on her plate than I do.
No offer from new company either but they did send me an application to complete.
I was hoping things would be more settled before I went camping but that doesn't look like it will be the case.

Hang in there, raeoflyte. It's hard because you're living in your head and they're living in theirs.

Still no word on an interview. I'm going to assume I'm not getting one. They won't let you know you didn't get the job until the end of the process, when the best candidate has accepted the job offer.
Another job popped up for me. I have my first session with my personal coach on Monday. I'm hoping that we can spend some time figuring out how to highlight all of the transferable skills I have. There's also a job that DH can apply for. Full time. It would replace my income, and we'd get state benefits. I took a peek, and there are plenty of part time jobs around that I could apply for. I'm also opening up discussions again, on getting me someplace where I am not stuck. I figure something will give.

That's a good approach, giramomma. Leave all the doors and windows wide open.

I spoke with my boss. Staying on just isn't going to work, which is what I was expecting, but I think she's still struggling with it. But good news nothing should happen before the end of the month so I will keep benefits through August. There was an outage that disabled some of my accounts today and I thought maybe my last day was here.
I think they may process me through as a layoff which could work out pretty well in my favor. Assuming I actually get a job offer from new company.

ners any updates? Said goodbye to one coworker today, he’s off back to the EU to renew his passport (and interview for a job over there, unbeknownst to supervisor). Feeling pretty done as far as new work goes. I’ve got plenty to do with paperwork and cleanup and writing up and transitioning projects.

raeoflyte and ners, so sorry for the stress all of this causes.
giramomma, that would be an interesting twist--you going part time and your DH going full time. How do you feel about that possibility?

giramomma , that would be an interesting twist--you going part time and your DH going full time. How do you feel about that possibility?I would be beyond pee in my pants excited. Technically, though, I'd still be close to full time. Teaching has been nuts this summer...I'm just about at 60 hour weeks. I'm finding that I was OK with 60-65 hour weeks at 36. Even enjoyed it. Not so interested at 46. And less enjoyment.
If DH worked full time, I'd be down to about 35-40 hour weeks, between a part time job and teaching. Even getting 10 hours a week back in my life, would honestly be life changing. I've been doing two (or three) jobs for 22 years. I need to make it t 30 before I down shift. If DH finds a job, then I can downshift earlier. I'm not complaining.

FFS. Background check is complaining that they can’t verify a contracting stint that lasted 5 months. I sent the appropriately redacted w2 with a request to lmk if that was insufficient. Reached out to HR today, they are complaining that it didn’t prove start and end dates. I called the company, they called me right back and emailed over start and end dates and title. Still waiting to hear whether that’s sufficient, but my current response to „can‘t verify“ is „um did you even try?“. Figure the worst possible case is they pull the offer but more likely they delay start date. Not optimal but I could deal with a little extra vacation

It’s actually outsourced to a third party company, which is the problem. HR is trying to help, but hasn’t responded back since I forwarded the date-confirming email. Have to admit I’m raising an eyebrow at the amount of pre-employment stuff they wanted done on my own time...I got to skip a lot of it bc reasons but it is absolutely stuff that has been done on company time for prior positions.
I had to do a previous background check with the third party company and I suspect I just left off the contracting stint at that time, which may be what’s causing their snit. Still. How effing hard is it to pick up a phone?

Does that in depth of a background check make sense given your job? If they know what your job title was they should be able to conclude if the earnings are reasonable for 5 months of work or not. But outside of security clearances why does it matter? (And how far back was that 5 month stint?)
I got the job offer about 8pm last night. Matched my base and commission for main sales guy. Doubled my bonus for my other 2 sales people and gave me an additional commission for overall support. The increased income should help offset the higher insurance costs. 4 weeks pto off the bat.
Considering my other options is unemployed I'm incredibly lucky to have something this good. Start date is mid August which let's me hit my 15 year anniversary with current company. I'm supposed to be on vacation still but will call current boss just to make sure nothing has changed on her end, but sign it today. I need to figure out logistics.

How effing hard is it to pick up a phone? My mom had one come back snippy because they didn't have a record of "DQ's mom" graduating from her HS alma mater. My mom said of course you wouldn't, that wasn't my name at the time. That's why you make me include my maiden name on the form.

I just got a call current company does have an opening for me.
Which is awesome, but I also signed the offer letter for new company and told them I was on board not 3 hours ago.
Decisions suck.

So, last Nov when I was getting fried, I made the pitch to put me in a new position. It sort of went no where. Folks were initially receptive, but then we were hitting roadblocks with my proposal. Then I got busy with work and life and what not and never got back to revising my proposal. I need to get back at it. I had a good conversation today with someone who was very encouraging to try again. It is also amazing what people will tell you if you just ask.

I think everything is sorted out. Talked to the senior HR person today who was pretty annoyed with the background check company...apparently they have a history of being inappropriately anal about things that don’t matter. And just for funsies I got a „hey did you fill out this paperwork“ email from current job about an hour before I was due to hand in my computer. With multiple errors, natch I‘ll miss my office mate, she was awesome for mutual venting and snark at the ridiculousness of it all, and also the occasional reality check. We have plans to do a monthly-ish lunch, six feet apart and outside, possibly including a few others. Also left everything in good condition and set up well for the transition. After working my butt off for weeks to get everything set up I’d planned to have a lazy afternoon but wound up dealing with a barrage of emails about the new job instead, plus stopping by camp to see DS‘ show and cleaning up a puppy accident Now I have an hour to do nothing. Better get started

I couldn't sleep so I got up and checked for the 100th time that I have all my personal files off my work laptop and did everything I could on my 1 work task that may come up today including making sure the manager taking it over has all info possible.
Now I'm just waiting to be (temporarily) unemployed. End of a 15 year era.
Start date moved up a week. I have fewer interruptions next week, then the following 2 so hopefully I can get established quickly and work my own schedule.
