I just got a random LinkedIn request from someone I don't think I know. She works at a branch of a fairly well-known biotech company that is somewhat near where we are moving, so I think I will accept it. Maybe I can network my way into a biotech job in the Midwest. She looks pretty young though, so chances are she is the one trying to network her way into a job in SoCal. I am enjoying the editing work. It doesn't pay enough to keep doing forever, but it's nice to feel busy again. Also, it will be nice to have some more money saved up before we move. The place where we were going to stay fell through (mom's fiance turned out to be as bad as the last guy), but we still shouldn't have any trouble finding a place to rent. After living in SoCal for almost 15 years, the rents and housing prices seem ridiculously low to me. We can still stay with my mom when we first get there too. I feel really bad for her, and I am glad we are moving closer. Still, we are going to want to get our own place ASAP.

I thought you were going to focus on the new job and not take a PT job. I was advised to do that but never made a decision on it.

20 minutes after my phone interview with Crate & Barrel I got a call from the sales manager. Interview tomorrow at 6:30 after work. Since this is a interview for a possible PT job in the evenings: business casual is ok? Don't feel like getting the whole monkey suit out for that ... I think business casual is fine, but second the why are you getting a part time job question.

I guess that is a good thing. How much do you think you can make working part time? Can you keep it from interfering with your new job? Is the new job a set schedule? How tired will you be? Those would be the only things I would consider, which I'm sure you have.

In other news since Monday was officially 1 month since I was terminated from my old job I called to inquire about: where is my bonus?
The person I talked to said the check they cut for me was never returned back to them as me not being eligible for it, at the time the check was cut 01/18 I was still an employee (01/22) and she will try to find out.
As I explain to her I have no issues not getting the check, but I will be damn if I am paying state and federal taxes on money I never received.
Basically it seems my old DM still have my check and she is going to find out what is up with that. If he said he mailed it and I did not receive it, she will put a stop payment on it and ask for a new check to be re-issued to me.
Cool beans!

We have not discussed salaries but being in MA I would say at least $10.00 an hour (that is MA minimum wage lol). Set schedules in the evening and would not interfere with my current job. Also made it clear that my full time job takes priority. I am sure I will be tired but not too tired to go work 4-5 hours at another job a couple of times a week or whatever it is. Those checks will go straight to paying down loans.

Nope nothing. DH is working a shift at Hy-vee right now so IDK if they called between now and 10:30. So? You should be home now... What's up?

So I told my staff today that I'm leaving. Everyone of them has said they have no intention of of staying with me gone. I have just said "do what you feel is best for you" since I still can't say anything about the sale and closure. But inside I'm laughing my ass off.
Woman who found out yesterday said she already applied elsewhere. Others said they are starting tonight.
Take that you greedy selfish bastards.

DH is starting to get depressed and I'm not much better. Only two days left and its been two weeks since the dairy interview.

Unfortunately, that $100 or so a week ($5000 for a year?) will be taxed at whatever your highest rate is because it is on top of your current salary? It can startle you next year if you aren't careful . . . PSA is over.

I don't know what I'd want to do though.

Can he gets at least 30-35 hours at his current part time job?

Either way should not surprise us much because we went from contributing 10% to each retirement plan last year (half the year did 6% for me) to this year on track to max my 401k with 18k and contribute 20% of my wife salary to hers ( ~$9,500) When you add medical insurance going up to $400/month (from $250) and my wife transportation waiver going from $380 not Taxable to now $550/month... I doubt 5k-10k/year will negatively impact us much vs last year.

March starts next week. How about a no spend March. Nothing but your bills, food, and gas with no eating out. See how much is left over. It'd prob be too drastic, but once you do that for a month you could probably do it half way (so if there's 500 you don't spend, going forward it's 250).
On numerous occasions when I don't let myself buy anything other than food and gas it's amazing how much less I spend.

I hope all your people find jobs soon! You said on your last day they plan to announce the sale? Hopefully they have a nice buyout packages for those in the dark! Sucks They aren't offering anything. The main production crews are just done. There are some that will be employed for a few months while they finish the product, but they don't plan on offering anything. I think they will realize pretty quickly that they will need to offer something for the managers at least. But at this point they still think everyone will stick around out of loyalty. I was the first hint that they will not. They offered my employee a crappy deal to stay after I gave my notice and told h e r not to discuss with me. So of course she did. She's the one that applied for something else last night. I told her to hold out for more money because their need for her will increase. She can sign and get money up front, then repay if she leaves. Told her it was a nice bonus if she did have to stick it out (can't find another job) but to put it in a separate account and not spend in case she finds something better.

I would have thought that Carl worked more hours than his wife so it would make more sense for her to pick up extra hours? But maybe with the commute added in he is less??

Well really $3k in a year - declutter and sell items, not spend, DIY instead of paying someone, focus on earning all your bonuses, etc.

Carl, I think you will start killing yourself with a 2nd job and then start spending even more. "Well, I am working so hard I deserve to eat out tonight", etc etc...
I agree with muttleynfelix 100%, put that extra energy into getting the max out of your bonus potential. Then try to relax and enjoy what is around you.
