So out of the blue today I was contacted by a company thru LinkedIn. The HR person wants to talk with me re an open position at a company in my city (well technically a suburb of my city but I wouldn't HAVE to relocate). I've only been at my current position for 20 months. I'm leaning in and will talk with the woman early next week. I'm a little excited about the opportunity, but also anxious. I love my current job and my current boss. It'd be a lateral move (I'm really good at those, LOL) but a definite pay raise. So while I finish out my vacation I'm going to dream of a bigger salary and more challenging job. Haha.

And it will be interesting to see the reaction of the owners. I offered to help them out in my off time. But they may also treat me like crap before I leave. They will see it as abandonment.

If you are not I totally understand. And I do agree: better to take a hit and land a job vs going down with the ship and uncertain future ahead of you...

Change is almost always scary. At least to me. Sometimes the devil you know feels more comfortable than facing the unknown, doesn't mean sticking around is the right thing for you though. Courage is being afraid and going for it anyway. So congratulations to both of you. It won't all go to shit, but I'll cross my fingers with you anyway. If the new job(s) doesn't/don't work out, you'll try something else. Woo hoo for Mr. and Mrs. Abby Normal!

But combined with the change in insurance it'll be about 700 month hit. It's doable, but I like my money. Dh will be making about what he was before (very slight change up) But by switching it give both dh and I up words movement. In other words in a year or two it'll be worth it. I bought a new car a year ago and I'm thinking I'll take our cash out on vacation and pay the loan off. Dh needs a new (or at least newer) vehicle badly. I don't want 2 payments at once, especially with a 700 drop.

Their loss!! Abandonment ... They are the ones closing the company and selling. They can put it in their pipe and smoke it. I love how companies sees loyalty as a 1 way street! Just be professional and keep your head up! They should have made you an offer by now to keep you on board!

Owners are shocked that I'm leaving and can't understand why. Duh. But they hate confrontation so I doubt they'll say much.
Wait until they realize I've opened the flood gates. My staff has been suspicious. Once they find out I'm leaving I know they will start looking and it will cascade from there.

A decrease, but in 6 months, it will be a salary with benefits. You liked the looks of the job, and like you said - in 6 months, who knows what jobs will be available for you to apply to.

Spent some time getting a basic resume entered in the computer lat night. I need to see if I have any reviews from the last nine years to crib off of. This is going to be the massive resume with all sorts of stuff that may or may not be pertinent to any job I go for in the future but I want to have them down.
Then I'll edit it down for the job I'm going for.
1. My skills are rather stale. Because I am grandfathered in with non-expiring IT certifications, I'm thinking about removing the date I got them from the official resume. What do you think?

If it dates you, remove the date unless it's necessary.
Good luck!

TheHaitian - This may be too late, as I am 3 hours behind you, but I would contact the recruiter to give them a heads up that you are going to turn down the HT offer, then contact the HT HR person. I would say something along the lines of "Thank you so much for the opportunity to interview with HT and the job offer. I was very impressed with the organization and this was a very difficult decision. However, I received a comparable job offer that does not require relocation, and after taking the weekend to think about the options and discuss with my wife, I have decided to take the local position. I wish you the best of luck in filling your open positions. Thank you again." Thank you for this; I did not answer them yet. I was so busy yesterday I did not realize till I was home at 8:30 that I did not. I emailed the recruiter this morning and told her I would be calling her this afternoon.

I slept great last night. First time in about three years. I woke up this morning feeling like a huge weight had been lifted.
Meanwhile, the chaos is beginning. It may actually provide me some entertainment over the next two weeks.
Owners son can't even look at me, let alone speak.
One of my employees was just told about the sale and my leaving. She walked in my office bawling. She said " I get it but I hate you right now". She knew I was looking, but didn't know I accepted.

I just got my formal offer email to me from HT ... I really need to contact them and turn it down. I just love the company and I have not worked for them 1 day of my life and it is sad I have to turn them down. They offer assistance for both rent or home buying that I have never seen before: generous is an understatement! Rent: besides the deposit and first month, they offer $500/month assistance for 12 months Mortgage: $1,500/month assistance for the first year, $1,000/month for the second year and $500/month for the third year... Just

They aren't announcing sale until what will be my last day here. I told Ceo that he needed to tell her since she does payroll/hr. Ceo (my boss) gets it. Owners dont. Ceo's wife passed a message along saying "congratulations on getting out of the hell hole but why do you hate my husband so much" I will miss her. She's awesome. I think Ceo is a bit in shock, and a bit depressed since I was the only person left he could really talk to. Work wife ya know.

That is definitely the icing on the care if you were in the fence... $500 towards your rent? Or $1,500/month (then $1,000 followed by $500) towards your mortgage.... WHAT? That would definitely help with the sticker shock at first; downside you better not get used to that money!
