Interview had to be rescheduled to Friday. Gwen is sick and the school called. Her fever was inching up to the 101 magical cut off and we had a choice either pick her up today or take our chances and she won't be able ot come back till Friday. Apparently my stupid phone isn't working b/c DH called me frantic four separate times and despite me sitting right next to the phone I didn't hear a single one, nor did it ping to tell me I had a voice mail. So I wasn't able to drop everything to get the kid. My parents work and my FIL has surgery tomorrow so can't be around a sick kid. God dammit. I hope his chances weren't blown. All I can think about is how working parents are the scum of the earth no good flakes and how DH calling to reschedule b/c of a kid reinforces the YM stereotype. The one time I had to reschedule DH was in the ER. The person on the phone proceeded to scream at me about how unprofessional I was and they would "maybe" grant me another interview (they did not). So that's also playing thru my head.

Drama, I think it might be time for DH to have his own cheapie pay-as-you-go phone. Just because he can't have it on the production floor doesn't mean he can't have it elsewhere.

If they are crappy and won't reschedule they probably aren't that great to people who are employees anyway. But, about 15 years ago, I got a call on a Monday wondering why I hadn't shown up for my interview. I had it written down as Tuesday (and still to this day I swear it was a Tuesday, because the Monday was my birthday), and they rescheduled my interview time. I also got that job. Miscommunication happens. Life issues happen. Decent employers aren't going to penalize interview candidates because of it.

Well, that was quick. I decide to look for another job, and an internal position pops up that sounds perfect for me.
It feels... fast. I thought this would be a six-month process. But I'm going to reach out to the team and do some initial fact-finding before I officially apply.
Now where is that resume.

He has a super cheap track phone MIL gave him for bad weather. That wouldn't have solved me not getting the message that I needed to come home and get the kid. He called me from the land line. My phone proceeded to drop the call. The HR lady was fine with rescheduling, she understood the situation. I'm paranoid. There is no rhyme or reason to interviewing/job hunting anymore so I have no way to know what is going to blow things and what isn't a big deal. I went crazy trying to break the code. What pisses off one company another one has no problem with. What one company loves another one moves you to the shredder. It sure would be nice if job hunters could be clued in on some of the rules the other side are playing by.

All considered it is the same shit with a different name on the building to be honest and I supposed that would be anywhere I go in retail. Also I accidentally found out he only makes $3,884/year more than me and I guess that made me more at ease with not negotiating for a higher salary. He is considered one of the top managers and they brought me in at ~5% below his salary... I am thinking there was not much room for negotiation salary wise and I avoided an uncomfortable situation (I could not afford to walk away). My goal was really 90k/year base salary and when I told my wife that she threw the pillow at me and said: you are wallowing over 2k/year? Ok I just got a 2k/year raise, consider it God making it up to you... Now stop bitching! I think I am ok and getting back in the groove of it! All is good in the neighborhood! Combined we make 135k/year + bonus... We need to reign on the spending, pay down debt and save save save!!! New hires seem to be handled that way income wise, managers that have sat in the same position without any promotion usually have the annual raises get smaller and smaller. Employees should always seek a promotion within five years, if possible to keep pay raises coming, or skip ship to the competition to accomplish it. Then again, you were probably hired in at a base rate proportional with their already established store managers/supervisors, so not that much of a surprise. Good job on your part!

Just add more pressure for him to sell himself and stand out on Friday! I think he will. He has word for word the experience they are looking for. The HR lady told him to put a few more things down he didn't think about till she specifically asked. He doesn't have manager experience but I suggested bringing up the safety committee he was on and ideas he had. I think he should also mention solving the contamination issue that no one else could figure out. It shows critical thinking skills and ambition and a take charge attitude.

I was thinking that also but the guy that retired that I am replacing was making a little bit over 4K more than me and they brought in my other friend making 10k less than me. So I am not complaining and I definitely do not want to be a career store manager; so I definitely will be looking for something else in 5 years or so.

Ugh, I want this week to be over. Got a comment yesterday towards the end of the day when I finally sat down that I "don't appear to have enough work to do". Really how about I list everything I've done while being sick going on three weeks? I think that would put the last 20 minutes of my day into perspective.
Then I made a mistake when giving animals to someone I forgot to write down the cage card and make sure it got transferred. Hopefully the person I gave them to still has the card. It wouldn't be a huge deal if this lab hadn't already screwed up so many times with the animal facility that they actually went thru a period of supervision. Since that is not the case I am under the microscope and can't make ANY mistakes.
I own up to my mistake and I know they happen. It's just irritating that any tiny mistake on my part will result in the nuclear option due to stupid decisions of others in the past.
Just ugh. My attitude, motivation and self esteem are in the toilet right now. I just have to keep reminding myself i am the sole wage earner right now and carry our benefits. That's my motivation to keep going and not hide in a cave somewhere for teh rest of eternity.

Any feedback on the email below? It's to the person that (I think) is the hiring manager for the job I'm interested in, but I'm not 100% sure and I can't figure it out from the titles and we don't have public org charts.
I do have legit questions about the role before I apply: are there people that report to this position? Is it new or did someone leave? etc. These weren't answered in the job description and I need a role that's the right fit. I don't want to waste anybody's time if it's not a fit. I've interacted with this person a couple times a year in the past but haven't spoken to him in maybe 9 months at this point.

I was really excited to find the posting for a blahblah blah manager on the ABC team. I’ve had some exposure to ABC in my current role and have always found it a fascinating area of the company. While I’m in a XYZ role now, I’m looking for a role that will let me leverage more of my analytical skills and gain field experience.

So this is a bit wierd. I had phone interview on Tuesday with people back east. Went well. I got a call from local hr tuesday late afternoon asking me to come in Friday or late afternoon thursday. I missed her call, so called back and left her a voicemail saying that Thursday afternoon (at the time she suggested) would work as I was not available friday and to please call me back to confirm. No response. So I called again yesterday and left another voicemail, saying I hadn't heard back and wanted to confirm that Thursday would work. It's now thursday and I still haven't heard back.
Should I call again, or wait for them to call me? I'm a bit afraid she put me on the schedule and if I don't show up, it will look like I ditched. But I also don't want to show up if they've gone a different direction. Or maybe she's just a flake.
Uggg.

We're having the same problem with ConAgra. DH said they must not be in a hurry to get the job filled. We have no idea what is going on, if he was knocked out of the running by not answering the first message, if she's sick or they are insanely disorganized right now.
