It does snow there. Southern snow. If it is like most Southern cities, a small amount of snow will shut the city down. The Raleigh area is a really great place to live. I have many friends that moved there for work (mostly pharma jobs). I also travel there quite a bit I live in NC, about two hours from Raleigh. The weather here is great, although I'm sure it is not as great as Southern California. It does not snow much in Raleigh but like alabamagal said most Southern cities do not have the equipment that northern cities have to remove the snow as fast. Usually in NC cities, the snow is removed from the main roads fairly quickly. The side roads take a bit longer. Since Raleigh is the capital, I would think their roads are cleared fairly quickly. But really, Raleigh only gets one or two snows most winters. Probably a couple of ice storms each winter also. Good news is that it is only about two hours to the beach. Also close to the mountains and NC has a great zoo centrally located to all the major cities. The summers can be really hot and humid. We love our air conditioning and shade trees in NC. Lol. Thanks DagnyT and alabamagal. Appreciate the details. I will probably have more questions if he gets the offer.

I would accept if it came close to what you gave them earlier. I kind of view that as your negotiations. If it's way off that is different.

In that case, I could use some prayers, too. I'm almost scared to go back to work again--going back to crazy busy schedules and not having the time to help my mom adequately. But, we sure could use the money for car repairs at the very least. LL, sending higher thoughts for you and your family. I know that you have said that your mom speaks a different language that is not common in your area and you really have no family help, but is there a social program that may be able to help? Check with senior services, county/city/state agencies for help. I understand that that is a bit of work with your situation, but maybe someone can point you in the correct direction. I’m sorry you are stressed, but this too will pass, just reach out to your community. Many hugs.

Dropped my wife off at the train station now at the gym; then normal routine of job hunt and what not...
But I cannot stop thinking about: offer letter. And it seems it is the same for my wife; she said to text her the minute I be the offer letter!
Focusing has been hard since yesterday morning; but guess it is a good problem to have.

I would look at insurance, vacation, etc. I can't remember if you said how their compensation structure was set up? Big bonuses?

Max amount is $5,000/quarter for a total of potential bonus of $20,000/year While HT a store manager can make up to 50% of their salaries in bonuses ... Very lucrative and all the store managers I talked to LOVE it if for any other reason just that. But MA is home ... Insurance we are on my wife insurance and we are probably going to keep it like that for now, might sign up for dental though (cheap and has been beneficial to have 2 dental insurances so far). Financially : HT would be more lucrative based on the bonus structure in the long run.

Did you look into Massachusetts law? I think most states cover this. Then you could follow up saying I haven't received this, when can I expect it? Per law it should have been received by x day. I've also heard for some weird reason of people getting actual checks instead of direct deposit.

So anyone wants to guess what the offer will be? My wife said not to be too greedy and negotiate to hard. I have a question about the new corporation for you, and I think is important since there was a termination from your previous employer, and no one here seems to ask the hard questions. Did your ex-employer agree not to divulge details for your dismissal? This is important to me, because how "honest" were you in the interview with your new company on your departure? If the application was received before termination, I guess you are safe, but if you applied after termination, it gets a little sticky for you. Less than honest, and it can lead to termination from your new employer for not disclosing honestly. I assume part of the interview asked if they contacted your former or present employer, what would they say about you. I know in today's business environment, companies are sometimes not forthright in their response but was wondering if they told you they would not hinder your search for new employment. Maybe at your job level that question is not asked quite that specific, but I also realize at your job level, they do not want a manager that is not forthright with them either. I would assume at your job level the new company did do some fact checking, so you are probably okay. Sorry for the hard question, but this is a job hunt thread, with many people looking for jobs, and an answer might also help people in similar situations.

I would lean toward waiting until you have passed all relevant background checks at your new job. And, you may not be eligible for the bonus or profit sharing. At least where I work if you aren't employed at the organization when checks are cut (not when they are announced) for bonuses you don't get one. I would also check your state laws for vacation pay-out. I believe there are some state where if you are let go for cause you are not entitled to a vacation time payout. It may also be that the final check cut has to be a paper check. So it may take longer if it's coming. However, I would not be shocked if you didn't receive a check at all.

10:30 still no offer letter! try to take deep breaths. I know my company is way smaller, but when I changed jobs last summer, this was my experience. I interviewed on a Wednesday (in person) and found out by phone the next day that an offer would be coming. Friday afternoon, I got a call from my HR contact to give details of the offer - but not the actual package, because that needed to be signed by the site head of HR and she was on vacation that week. my offer came through via email on Monday just before noon. I came in to work with my resignation letter already printed, but I didn't actually sign it until I got the offer via email. this sort of thing is probably what is going on, too. as a store manager, your compensation package is going to be way more complicated than that of your "worker bees". think back to the mortgage process, and how complicated it was to get everything gathered up. you got this.
