Some other good news for today, HT wants to fly me out to VA on 02/10 for the in person/panel interview. They just called me then send email; they wanted my legal name how it is spelled out on government ID, closest airport to me and a major credit card. Seems the major credit is because the flights and stuff are non re-fundable so if you flake out it is on you They need that information ASAP to make the reservations and here I was trying to wait till this weekend to see if I get a job offer or not and Vance the trip. What do I do?

3:15 am to leave our house, sorry. We live in Council Bluffs and the OS plant is out in Papillion. He'd get into work around 3:45 am. Then he is expected to get dressed for work while off the clock. It takes about 25 minutes to get dressed. Then he needs to get down to the other side of the plant and THEN he clocks in at exactly 4:30 and not a minute before/after. Yes he is expected to get in that early, dress and walk down to the other side of the plant all unpaid. Yes it is illegal. Tyson got sued for it while DH was working there and the employees won. The DOL dictates you're on the clock if the company requires you change into company provided/required gear then you are considered on the clock and must be paid. DH is planning on looking thru the company handbook and talking to the supervisor of the department about whether this is actually company policy or something the manager is making everyone do. Once we have that answer then we can start thinking about what we want to do. Coke did not call. My best guess is it was a random generated email that goes out to all applicants, it doesn't mean you actually get called the wording was rather confusing. Have him call them. If they are a good company to work for, I would definitely be calling.

I talked to my wife, going to call the company back.
Give them my information and keep the interview for 2/10. Fly out 2/9 and back 2/11.
And if I do get a job offer before then, I can give them an official start date of 2/15... ~2 weeks. What do you think?
ETA: I just got off the phone with them and they said my interview is on 2/10 and I should have an answer or offer (if selected) by 2/12 or at the latest 2/15.

I think the start date is fine unless they press you for a sooner one.

The company sounds like they're really interested in you. I sure wouldn't pass up the chance to talk to them. If they're as interested as they seem, you might just have found the golden goose! I need to know where the goose is so I can start looking at houses!

I don't know yet where we will be but I told them I was open to Washington DC and anyone in NOVA/Maryland that was within 1 hour of DC. So it is a toss up till the actual offer where we end up. And our choices would be limited to townhomes if no just renting ; really expensive there the closer to DC you get!

I've just recently started reading this thread and I wanted to thank everyone who told their stories. It helped me put things in perspective a bit.
Things have been weird lately for DH and I with our jobs. I've told part of the story on other threads.
Me- The owners here have been trying to sell for the last 18 months, with no luck. They've decided to liquidate and we are expected to stop operations mid February. No one knows by myself, the CEO, and the owners. Really hard because they just don't want to run it anymore. Good company, good reputation, making money and just coming into our busy season- and they are liquidating. So none of the employees have a clue. It's so hard, and I feel sick everyday. I've applied for a couple jobs, and have heard nothing from either of them yet- but it's only been a little over a week since I applied for the first one. Trying to be picky since I still have some time. I know they'll offer me a carrot to stay through the end, and I've already told them it's going to have to be a really big one. But if I can find another job I want in the meantime, I'll ditch them in a heartbeat- carrot or no carrot.
DH has had a sucky year. His company has been bought out for the third time since he's been there. The last time, the reorganized so the guy who hired him is no longer his boss. There is still a "dotted line" to him and they work closely together. His current boss is the GM of the site and DH has had a target on his back ever since. He had an issue with the head of HR, who is in bed with the GM. HR accused him of discrimination against one of the employees. It was complete crap. But what HR did was instead of calling him in to hear his side, she came down to his (shared) office and yelled at him in front of 3 others, including his former boss. This was about a year ago. Since then, he hadn't been able to say anything without getting backlash from her. They have employees that have worked 60+ days straight, and she came unglued in a meeting when he said he thought the employees needed a break. GM walks up to him one day and says " I don't like how you're doing your job-so expect not to have it much longer". Seriously, no reason, or justification- other than he's getting all his information from HR.
Anyway, third buyover management team came in, and it happens to have some people that DH knows. Head of HR fired because there are 6 multimillion dollar lawsuits against company for wrongful termination because of her. (found that out from his former boss who was asked to investigate). The GM made it another couple months, but he has been asked to leave as well.
He started with his new boss, and things are getting better, but the damage is done and he's been looking. He had a second interview on Friday, and were hoping that an offer comes in this week. He was asked to call them today. So fingers crossed.
Meanwhile, I have completely developed and " I don't give a shit" attitude at work. I hate that about myself, but there it is.

I interviewed for a job in Tampa once, and when they asked me what my current salary was, they asked me if I was ready to take a salary cut to move to LCOL area. Umm...I live in mid-sized midwestern city that is known to be LCOL. I'm sure some places pay great, but I always thought it was odd someone thought that somehow the cost of living was so much higher in flyover states than it was in Florida.

I know Warrenton has a HT and I'm not really sure that is what you are thinking when you are thinking Northern VA. To be fair map quest did put it at an hour and 10mins from the White House. Bristow HT is just an hour from the White House and Fredricksburg is again an hour from the White House.

Yeah I just talked to her and pretty sure it is not going to happen: - my current salary is a bit on the high scale for them - her company does not offer relocation. Now back to focusing on tomorrow! Have to go pick up my suit at 5! The company I am interviewing tomorrow would be the best first (no relocations, less stressful on the family, no issues).

Employers in Florida feel just the privilege of working and living in Florida should be enough. For the most part, they're right!!

As long as we can find a place to live with a train station that will get my wife into DC within 1 hour I will be happy. They do seem to have a lot of stores in NOVA and also Maryland, so where I end up is anyone guess! The closer to DC the better but we are also curbing our enthusiasm for that: probably renting, probably putting our stuff in storage, probably 2 bedrooms / 1 bath.

I just got an email "inviting" me to reapply for a project manager position that I applied to a couple of months ago. They have switched over to a new computer system, so I will need to resubmit my resume. The email seemed like a form letter, and I remember it being very cumbersome and taking almost an hour to go through the entire process last time. I hope that is why they changed systems. I am familiar with this company and a couple of people have told me it is not a great place to work. Maybe I will put off submitting my resume until tomorrow... I will probably still do it, but I just can't imagine this job turning into something that would make it worth it to stay in southern CA. My fiance and I are both getting excited about moving. It is way to early to even think about it, but I still looked up dogs on the local humane society website this weekend.

That is south east Florida, about 1.5 hours north of Miami.

It's been really hard for me mentally knowing that the place is shutting down. I think I'll feel better once it's actually announced. Well, probably not, but at least I won't feel like I'm lying to everyone, everyday. I haven't heard from DH yet. But there is a recruiter involved so it may be a bit before we hear of an offer. I'll be happier when I know one of us has a secure job.

Abby, hoping DH or you hear something soon, I know that uncertainty is often worse than the outcome...
Carl, I know in my situation in NOVA renting makes more financial sense for now. I can rent a nicer quality place, in the exact area I need, in my price range. I cannot buy anything like that in my price range. It used to bother me, but as long as I'm saving money elsewhere, I tell myself I will still come out ahead.
