Can you convince the rest of your team to be really mean to her until she quits. That may unintentionally happen as we all get tired of picking up her slack. That will be something you as a manager will need to stop should it occur.

See if there are anymore internal jobs that she might be a better fit for..... Hey does HR have any openings they might love to have her. She is artsy. All the artsy jobs are in our NYC office. She doesn't want to work in NYC. Therefore, work for a new damn company.

I talked to my boss today about my talk with Problem Child. He basically said that since I'm not sitting with her while she's doing all her work, I'm not doing all I can to help. Love the fact that I have no support for this. No matter what, it's my fault if she doesn't succeed. well, you can sit her the entire day and let your other work slide and then claim that you were following your boss's direction about her. Or ask him to help you reprioritize your work so you can continue to reteach her the basics every damn day.

Breakthrough - I'm seeing incremental progress. She's still wasting more time than I'd like, but she is actually starting to show signs of remembering stuff. Maybe that first training wasn't enough or maybe I scared her. Either way I guess it's something.

It's amazing what people can accomplish when they know the jig is up. She knows you are onto her so she's actually trying.
Good for you for having the tough conversation. I hate stuff like that!
