Wow! I spend even more on skiing than I thought. The additional saved total this month was actually charged, but I do have the cash to pay for it. I may post another update in a few days. I have scheduled a transfer that hasn't posted yet. Remember to vote on Tuesday! -movinonup

Hi Savers! Sorry I've been away. I've been working "extra" which will help with the extra expenses. Looks like we'll be using more than half of our EF for one replacement fence (Smaller of the two), meaning it will take more than our whole EF to replace both fences UGH. And car insurance renewal in Dec will be going up. Sigh.
I hope to do shoutouts Sunday evening. Until then keep up the good work and fight the good fight!

Shoutouts (finally ) : azucena Good job achieving another new highest amount saved ever, and a gain of over $2K since last month. Nice work reining in the convenience foods, hopefully your DH will be in synch with you on that soon. Jaguar Good 4 U getting on the board and planning your 2017 goals ...amazing that those will be coming into play in just 6 short weeks Hi there megaptera It can be unsettling to feel that your finances are "all over the place". I'm glad you are seeing some progress in the building of the new home. Maybe think of this as growing pains? Necessary but worth it. As for renting VS selling your present home, that's tough. We converted our last home to a rental, we just couldn't sell it and break even. It's a responsibility and an uncertainty, but for us it is paying off in terms of equity growth. Looking forward to seeing your new goals. Congratulations minnesotapaintlady on being at over 102% of goal Nice progress movinonup with nearly $1K progress since last month And nodebt42 has earned her 3rd woo hoo! 82.9% rocks!! Saving4Norway Nice work buckling down and scoring $17,100 and nearly 86%. seriousthistime I'm so happy for you to be getting settled in. And well done managing to continue savings through all of the relocating and job change. 112% wowie!!! snapdragon Yea for getting the savings rolling! TheHaitian Your expenses have been coming at you from all directions. But you are managing to keep your income strong and cover all the bases. Keep fighting the good fight, and so happy that your baby girl is continuing to stay put. Hoping she continues to be strong like her papa. I apologize for the belated and abbreviated nature of the shouts. Good work savers!!! Let's see if we can all get an update by the end of the month

The next step is the last one, they will mail me the results of the review. I got notice today that the review has been completed and results are coming to me shortly. This fiasco is nearing the end and the best part is that if I owe them back anything, I did not spend any of that extra cash.

11/19/2016 (2016 Goal: $6,500) Hi all - happy I met my emergency fund goal! I decided not to go up to $500 for Christmas and just leave that at $400 and see if I can make things work at that level. In rethinking, I may well be able to do all my shopping with just $400. Still trying to meet a stretch goal. $8,000 was the stretch for the EF - $1,000 every single month which is tough for my pay level and where I live (nonprofit in DC). That is looking out of reach, but I have 3 paychecks left and will try for $7,000 for sure! Christmas will go down in future posts - as that's what it was meant for. In fact, we may do some shopping tomorrow. Definitely looking forward to having all of next year for saving, as I spent the first half of this year paying off the end of my debt. Account | Have | 2016 Goal | Emergency Fund | $6,040.77 | $6,000 | Christmas | $400.29 | $500 | Total | $6,441.06 | $6,500 |

Sooo, I haven't posted since late August. I am so ready for 2016 to be over! As we worked through the last few months of the year, I pulled down so many accounts to such bare bones, that I've been struggling to get ahead again. I saved up in one account, only to have to turn around and pay off another. 1/1/2017 will be such a welcome reset! I am saving somewhere around $700/month, but you can't even tell based on the juggling (and now, Christmas!). And, my husband's 50th birthday. So, now I'm juggling putting together a surprise for him, as well. I struggle to keep holidays & gifts for him small since he had very little goodness in his life growing up, and this is such a big year birthday-wise. Thank goodness I had still managed to keep some money set aside for Christmas - even if we do use every last penny of it!
I have also been doing my best to make good on the charitable donations that we agreed to make, earlier this year. Tax refund time should be very good to us this coming spring. But, now that we have TWO tax deductions, I'll be re-evaluating our withholdings early next year.
I continue counting down to the end of child support payments, even if that is around 18 months away yet. The monies will be redirected towards first, the auto loan, and then either paying off the mortgage, or saving up a down-payment for a new house. (We flipflop back and forth about staying where we are and moving - but, that's not a decision we're making now. Sometimes dreaming about the future is what keeps me sane though, in the midst of all the nuttiness of the now!)
2016 has been an incredibly crazy ride, and yet, somehow we have (almost) made it through in one piece. One day at a time.
Tobinikui: $2,205.02 on 11/28/2016 (Goal $17,169.90)

Many thanks to seriousthistime and forwardwego for the smilie updates and shoutouts! Well, STILL no official savings update. We were hoping to be in the new house by the new year, but that is definitely not happening. Because, contractors. I'm thinking St. Patrick's Day now. Optimistically. I think we've spent more money in the past month than we ever have, ever. House (new and current) stuff, car stuff, Christmas stuff, medical stuff, etc. Seriously, I about lose my lunch sometimes when I look at what we've been spending. I try to be optimistic and look at the good stuff like: we've got some savings to take care of some of this and we were able to max retirement this year. I truly am thankful; I know that there are many others who are struggling more. I'm looking forward to things hopefully settling down in the next several months, so I can come up with some definite savings goals again. Thanks for "listening" to my rant. I hope everyone has a Happy Christmas season!

Jaguar You could also retitle your moving fund to something like "Moving Fund Phase 1", then as time goes on you might get a better feel for whether to bump it and by how much.?

Shoutouts: azucena Wowie... You have saved nearly $48K!! And Zowie...You are on target to achieve $50 THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! Savings Rock Star nodebt42 Yahoo for you! So exciting for you to surpass your EF goal, and since you readjusted your gift budget downward the net effect is , which will be reflected soon when you reach toward your $7-$8K EF stretch goal. snapdragon congratulations on your update, with a nice bump to all 3 of your saving categories, and tipping the scales to over 50% of goal seriousthistime You have had a year of many changes...congratulations on pushing through, and having 2 roses and a rosebud ready to bloom. minnesotapaintlady Congratulations on another fine update! Even though your car maintenance tapped into your replacement fund, in the balance you've had a stellar year with 4% over goal tobinikui Welcome back and congratulations on your update. Forward progress is good, and good job for you juggling so many things in 2016. It's heartwarming that through it all you have managed to also keep up with your planned charitable donations. You summed it up nicely for me and I believe several of the WIR Savers when you say "1/1/2017 will be such a welcome reset!" The nice tax refund, and then adjusting your tax withholding downward, will hopefully give you a nice start for the new year. Future is looking bright TheHaitian Congratulations on "pert near" 96% to goal. Perhaps you will earn your ! And so very happy for you and your DW to be approaching 30 weeks in her pregnancy!!! movinonup Double good job to you with 2 updates, and two nice milestones: completing your monthly challenge and breaking through to over $10K Jaguar You are right..."Teeny Tiny Updates are awesomesocks" The little steps keep us moving forward too! I'm looking forward to watching you build your moving out fund in 2017. Freedom to go or stay as you see fit will be awesomesocks too megaptera Though you haven't been able to do a savings update, it's good to do the mental/emotional updates as well. And if it includes some venting, well...... vent away. Good job accomplishing the max retirement contributions, and good job finding the silver linings during a challenging phase. Your new hopeful target date for your new home reminds me of a joke (sorry) : Why are soldiers always glad for April? Because they've just finished a 31 day March. Hopefully you'll be relaxing in your new home by April. 2016 has certainly been a challenging year so far and we may feel weary, but let's keep in mind what Dory and Saving4Norway say "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming..." And she's worth listening to 'cause she is justthisclose to being a 4-star, dozen roses saver!!! So how about it? Can we do one more update? add a few more dollars? get that next thousand or hundred? I think we can. I think we can. I think we can.

Good Friday Morning Savers! Calendar says this is the 344th day of 2016. So with only 22 days to go how are your plans and goals for 2017 shaping up?For me it's looking like I'll finish 2016 with just a few more dollars than my last update which will be 87% total. I feel good about that. I'm thinking next year's total goal will be similar to 2016 because that is definitely a reach, and for me a good goal requires me to reach. I'll be doing the weekly challenge again. I hope in 2017 to ultimately use it for fun .

2017 is coming in, cause my life is getting way better finally already.
I heard from the government, it's all done, nothing I did was wrong. So onward march. That excess cash was mine, just no one told me I was getting it. I'm all good now.
