Ugg- I screwed up. Bad. At work. I don't think they'll fire me, but I feel like I'm sitting here just waiting for hammer to drop.
I just want to crawl under a rock and die. I hate screwing up.

I've been there. I'm often the last set of eyes before this product ships out the door and when I miss something I feel like crap...and get royally yelled at sometimes. I have to remind myself, that I'm not some kind of super person and if the 15 people that handled this before me didn't catch it... But still. We make medical products like pacemakers and stuff.

Best thing to do is own up to it and present a plan how you will prevent it from happening again. I've always had the philosophy with my employees that we own mistakes as a team and have 3 elements to it:
1. What is the impact 2. Why did it happen 3. How do we improve the process to prevent it from happening in the future.
It has worked well and gives senior management the reassurance that we are "on top of it". I've discovered 95% of errors at work are process and not people.

Hugs for Abby!
It will be all right. Very often, our mistakes seem more awful to us than they actually are. Sending positive energy your way.

We all screw up. Show me someone who never makes a mistake and I'll show you a liar. Just as long as you didn't run over the bosses daughter or something. And remember, you always make it bigger than it is in your mind.

Are you off for the holidays after today? Just enjoy the long weekend and things won't seem so bad on Monday. Maybe get a puppy. I've heard that helps.

I'm sorry, no fun. I hate waiting. Just hurry up please and beat me . It will be ok and probably not as bad as you are thinking.

You are just being really bad right now.......I want a puppy or kitten so badly right now, but my budget stinks to all high holy. My brother and me were talking about this on Friday, after the car accident, cause working on your budget after a shock yanno it's the reasonable thing to do.

Hugs for you! We have all been there. I know I have been there more than once. Years ago, I made a $2 million mistake on a client's Medicare cost report. Not only that, they were our newest and biggest client. The partner did not catch it and it went out the door very very wrong. I will never forget it. We are lucky they did not fire us.

Nope- this one really is bad. The internal report I use for how much cash we had in our operating account was wrong by about a million dollars. Normally, not an issue but it make us out of funds and we can't transfer out of the other account until Next Tuesday. And of course the checks that I wasn't going to release until tomorrow, were mailed last night.
So now I have about 1.2 million to about 300 companies in issued checks and not nearly enough to cover them until Tuesday.
I'm praying for good timing. I feel sick I have no idea how many will bounce.

I would think they'd want to keep your business and so might work with you. It may be inconvenient (and the bank) for you - but you might keep the problem of bounced checks from the receivers of the checks.
It sucks. Sometimes all can do is "damage control" and/or try to limit how bad it is for those downstream.
(I'm currently hiding under a rock because of a highly visible problem with 50K of small charges that effected a several hundred people - and I was just the 'messenger' and 'fix it' person for this problem ::sigh:: and this is a 'small' amount - my problems are usually up in the millions - they just don't have the same widespread exposure).

If only it were that simple... Contact your account manager at the bank the checks were drawn on. There may be a fee for floating you for a day or two, but it can be done (DH is an EVP of Finance and Administration and no stranger to such mishaps).

Then blame the bank! Everybody already hates them.
Sorry this happened especially during the Holidays but I agree that people will be so busy and, hopefully, kinder and more understanding, that they will accept that you're only human and this stuff happens. I also suspect they've done something similar at one time or another before they became the boss.
Try not to let it ruin your Christmas/Holidays. and take a few of these when you get home.

Abby, honestly, shit happens. And good news is that USPS seriously sucks especially this time of year. I suspect it'll all work out.
I'd still definitely drink lots of hard liquor.

Ok, so if you sent paper checks in the last day or two they probably won't reach the vendors until tomorrow or Christmas, and they really wouldn't be able to get the checks to the bank till next week anyway right? Most banks will be closed the next couple days won't they? Perhaps a memo could go out to the vendors to wait and cash checks next week? I know it sucks right now, but perhaps there will be a solution that won't make it so bad. Mistakes happen. I hope things turn out ok and you won't have to be upset over the holidays ((Hugs))

That's it? Shit, I've done that before. It is amazing how many checks take weeks to clear. You will be fine.
