That's it? Shit, I've done that before. It is amazing how many checks take weeks to clear. You will be fine. That's what I'm hoping for arch. But with my luck, the guy who has been sitting on his 100 for the last 2 month, will have chosen today to deposit it. But I still don't like it.

I can offer nothing but sympathy and the hope that the mail is slow.

If only it were that simple...
Then blame the bank! Everybody already hates them.
Sorry this happened especially during the Holidays but I agree that people will be so busy and, hopefully, kinder and more understanding, that they will accept that you're only human and this stuff happens. I also suspect they've done something similar at one time or another before they became the boss.
Try not to let it ruin your Christmas/Holidays. and take a few of these when you get home.
I'm totally blaming the bank. I already have the " I'm so sorry the positive pay file didn't upload" so if anyone hears that on monday excuse you will know who I am irl. I'm not that worried about the ones that went out yesterday, it will be Monday before they try to clear- see above excuse. It's the ones that went out last week that have been opened in the last day or two and the ones that have been sitting in someone pile that they decide now is a good time. How do people who bounce checks live like this.

Nope- this one really is bad. The internal report I use for how much cash we had in our operating account was wrong by about a million dollars. Normally, not an issue but it make us out of funds and we can't transfer out of the other account until Next Tuesday. And of course the checks that I wasn't going to release until tomorrow, were mailed last night. So now I have about 1.2 million to about 300 companies in issued checks and not nearly enough to cover them until Tuesday. I'm praying for good timing. I feel sick I have no idea how many will bounce. Can you work with the Bank? I suspect you are not the first 'client' to have this issue.... I would think they'd want to keep your business and so might work with you.
You'd think that, but I'm not so sure any more. My business is a dream client for our bank. We never bounce checks, keep a high balance and do 99% of our transactions online. I avoid going in to the actual bank but have to go in a few times a year to deposit checks from our Canadian customers because the ATM/deposit scanner won't take foreign checks even if they're in $s or to send wire transfers. When I go in, I'm often in workout wear. And a significant portion of the time, when I present the documents, the teller looks at the balance in the account then looks at me and asks (sounding a little doubtful), "Is this your account?" I asked my husband - who is also usually casually dressed the few times he goes into the bank - if they ask him that. He said nobody has ever asked him this question.
So I've decided that the next time a teller asks me if this is my account, I'm going to smile sweetly and reply, "Yes, it is my account and I'm here to remove the balance in cash. No bills larger than a $20, please. I'll need some help taking it to my car. Thank you."
The account normally has $400,000 - $500,000 in it. Wonder how long that will take for them to count out?

I'm sorry about your quandary. I understand why you are nervous. If I were able to, I'd try to estimate how many will make it to your vendors by Monday, just to try to ease my worry. I used to work with lockbox deposits (these would have a PO Box #). Those go right to the bank, and any that arrive before the cutoff time for the day are cashed immediately. However, mail from the West Coast to Chicago normally took 5 days. (Don't know where you are located.) The holiday works in your favor, with mail, office closings, and vacations. It might not be too bad.

We all make mistakes. I know I have at work. You've owned it, which is a necessity. I do hope the other shoe doesn't drop. I'd be worrying like you are. I know me all too well.

Now it's just pray for a miracle. As far as getting the bank to help, not a chance. They did us no favors when we had 8 figures there, they won't do it now with none. I hate the off season.

Would it make you feel better if I shared my " I did a bad bad thing" story?? Yes, it would! So.....once upon a time, when I used to work, I was doing payroll for the entire company. And it so happened that I didn't click the very last "submit" button and oops - the payroll didn't get processed. And I didn't find that out until........the day people were supposed to get paid and...........didn't get their direct deposits. So.........many many many employees were screaming at my boss that they will be bouncing their checks and they can't pay rent and they can't their child's day care and........ I was 7 months pregnant at the time. To this day I am shocked that I didn't have a heart attack or a stroke or baby that day. And that my hair didn't turn gray.

My old boss, an extremely intelligent and capable woman who is now a CFO, once filed and paid Illinois taxes for one of our properties. Only problem is, that property was located in Indiana!

If your bank won't work to resolve this you need a different bank.
When DH had a small business with $300k in sales per year, he could always call his banker if there were problems, they never bounced ( as in did not pay) a check. They always paid everything and he would have overdraft charges. Not good but at least they paid.

Stupid edit function! Anyway, nothing is going to clear before Tuesday. None of us have been doing deposits since Monday. We aren't dealing with the Christmas crowds at the bank. If it isn't EFT it ain't happening.
